I really like Dr Stephen and Dr Hong but I am changing back to DeBakey Cardivascular group. Their current Patient Portal (Healow) is terrible. It's almost useless. Horrible to log into and zero Customer Service unless you understand broken English. Occasionally they simply delete your access. Advice via e-mail is a joke and HCA telephones are " your call is very important to us." Plus you cannot text any of their Dr offices. And I not sure anyone at the practice reads these reviews. I was referred to Houston Cardiovascular Associates by my primary care physician due to concerns about my extremely low heart rate. Unfortunately, my experience here has been disappointing and deeply concerning. From the very first appointment, I encountered issues. After my consultation with Dr. Yao, I was asked to wait in the lobby for a scheduled heart ultrasound and to receive a Holter monitor for a 3-day evaluation. I ended up waiting 46 minutes before being informed that the clinic was short-staffed and could not complete the ultrasound. I then waited an additional 40 minutes, only to be told they didn't have the Holter monitor available. I had taken time off work for this appointment and ultimately wasted nearly two hours with no progress in my care. The problems didn't stop there. After I returned the monitor, I followed up five times by phone and left four voicemails over several days trying to get the results. I received no response--no callback, no follow-up, and no communication from Dr. Yao or the staff. As a younger, physically fit individual, I felt dismissed and overlooked--like my concerns weren't taken seriously because I "looked healthy." This experience left me feeling that I was pushed aside, and it raises serious concerns about equity in care. I'm grateful that I'm not currently experiencing complications and that I have the resources to seek help elsewhere. But I fear for others--especially people of color--who may not have the financial means or support to advocate for themselves as forcefully. No one should have to chase down potentially life-altering test results or be treated as if they don't matter. I do not recommend Houston Cardiovascular Associates based on this level of unprofessionalism, lack of communication, and overall disregard for patient well-being. read more

They never answer the phone. Impossible to reach. At appointment they told us they would call right away to schedule angiogram for my husband who has already had one heart attack. A week later- still nothing!! Don't waste your time!!! read more

They would not respond to my phone calls or portal messages. I was trying to get a medication renewal and separately a renewal of a lab test order that had expired. I never got the lab order so had to skip it. I now have a new cardiologist that is very responsive. read more

They are awful. Rarely return calls, the doctor has not discussed any of the tests he has had me do...after many calls and emails, messages on the portal about the test results. I was hoping to discuss this lack of follow up when I went to my appointment.The doctor was not there at my last appointment. I found this out when the PA showed up for my appointment that he had to go do a pacemaker and could not see me. The PA prescribed one medication that I was allergic to (which was on my chart and the nurse asked me about allergies upon the start of the appointment). If you have testing done, you may be able to see the results on the portal. The bloodwork is accessible on line. Don't expect to get anything explained to you about any test they have had you do. I have to find somewhere else to go before their negligence does me in. WARNING...NOT A PLACE YOU WANT TO GO IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING WRONG WITH YOU! read more

Always excellent care here both recently and for the past 20+ years. Yesterday I arrived some 20 minutes early and was taken to a room in 10 minutes and after preliminary screening by the nurse the doctor came in to see me after only a few minutes. Very thorough and not rushed. Prior visits with testing have been very professional and thorough. read more

I've had a great experience with Houston Cardiovascular Associates, and especially Dr. Trachtenburg (Dr. T). They were extremely thorough with their workup, even answering questions that I had that were only somewhat related to what was being done. Although it can get busy at times with lots of patients, I've never needed to wait too long (by doctor waiting room standards, at least), and the staff and doctors are always patient with me, taking the time to answer my questions and be sure our care works in cooperation with my daily life rather than being strict and difficult to follow. I'd highly recommend HCVA and would happily recommend it. read more

However, seems to be a little bit of miscommunication between what Physician tells patient regarding new cholesterol injection medication therapy versus what the nursing assistants or medical assistants "Say" or inform the patient regarding the workings of actually receiving the injection medication, based on Insurance Approval. Have had no communication from them regarding status as to when or IF approval for an every-two week-injections has been received or a time frame. read more

The general office does not respond to messages in a timely manner. Either billing or medication clarification, never seem to hear back within same day which has never been a problem with other medical providers I have used. read more

The receptionist was the only positive experience. I'm extremely disappointed in the care of Dr.Trachtenberg. I've been a patient of his for nine years and don't appreciate how I was treated and the lack of care and concern I experienced. I ended up in the hospital later on that night and I feel could have been avoided if the level of care was the same as I received before in the past years. Awful experience through and through. The care I received was terrible. I was sent to see a Cardiologist after two abnormal EKGs. I went through a few tests to find out what the issue was, and my doctor barely walked me through my results. I called a few months after my appointment complaining of chest pains and trouble breathing and no one called me back. Lastly, I can never get in touch with the billing department. I received a second bill over a year later than my one and only appointment for a new amount and no one will get back to me. I involved my insurance company and it took them over a month to get in touch with someone. When someone finally got in touch with my insurance company they said the would only speak to me, and not them. Unbelievable the care this office provides. read more

Have been a patient of Doctor Robert Hust for over 25 years. Has always been congenial and responsive, no matter how many questions I might have. HIs staff is the same way. Have referred numerous friends to Dr. Hust and all have been pleased. Cannot speak for others experience but mine has always been top notch. read more

Good Bye HCA. Just changed my Cardiologist. I liked him very much, hate to go. But I hate the long waits in the office more. I hate, I must call literally twice a week for a month to make an appt. Hate that last year I was waiting for over an hour and was finally the last patient in the waiting room at 5:30; a security guard wandered in and asked me what I was waiting for because all the doctors had gone home. Seems like other reviews of this PATHETIC Doctors office are very similar. Three visits and I arrived early each time yet, waited more than an hour each time. I walked out twice after an hour waiting asking the receptionist why was I waiting so long after arriving early, her only comment is the Doctor is running late. Well, then no matter how much I like this doctor he runs he office with NO REGARD to others' schedules and must believe we have to wait for him. There are hundreds of Cardiovascular doctors in this city so PLEASE do yourself a favor and find another office. Not only are the doctors INCONSIDERATE of time their patients have to wait by overbooking their schedule, but there are also so many doctors at this office, with a waiting room for 60, they run out of exam rooms even if the doctors have the time! While I find my doctor a good one, it is not worth my time to wait due to his poor scheduling. Everyone in that office should walk out and not support the continued and flagrant schedule abuse this office places on their patients. read more

I had an appointment, scheduled several weeks ago, with Dr. A George Basu at 11:15 today. My daughter came from out of town to go with me and my sister. After completing all the paperwork, we waited and waited as we watched other patients being called in. My daughter went to the front desk to ask as we had waited approximately 1.5 hours; they told her I was the net to be called in. Well more patients came and left and I was still waiting. My daughter went back up after another 1 hour and the girl she previously spoke with said I am going to lunch you need to talk to this girl. They both then informed my daughter that Dr. Basu was not even in the office today. They said he nor his assistant had put it in the system they were out so they were not aware. They told us we could talk with the Manager of the office, who elected never to come to the front desk to talk. We then left and reported back to my referring internist, who was mortified by these circumstances. Needless, I will not be seeking treatment from Dr. Basu nor would I recommend him to anyone. My internest has referred me to another cardiologist and will not be referring to Dr. Basu again. I would be very hesitant of the treatment provided if this is how the office is run. In addition, the people working there were dishonest with us. read more

The WORST STAFF EVER. Good luck actually getting to talk to a human being much less being treated like one. I called all day long about a release I needed and was never allowed to talk to anyone. The long menu that I was forced to go to over and over sent me to a voice mail box that the scheduler was off and would be back Monday. Funny thing the date of the "Monday" that she was going to be back was two months ago. I finally managed to get to their answering service who told me they weren't answering phones that day. I complained to my regular physician who conferenced me in and asked to talk to the doctor. The put her on hold and the answering service said that she would give them the message, maybe they'd get back. My regular doctor told me to find another cardiologist. read more

Doctor and his assistant are fabulous. Billing department and staff are a bunch of prima donnas that have never been introduced to the meaning of customer service. My insurance company has contacted them THREE times to get a code corrected that they entered incorrectly and after several weeks they still have not corrected it. I am not paying these people one thin dime! They need to clean house with the administrative staff. I love Dr. Stephen, but I am looking for another doctor. read more
