I was seen immediately and treated with great care. Dr. Thiago Halmer and nurse Jordan were both extremely attentive and supportive.

I've been a nurse for over a decade (which I did not disclose) so for one I'm not quick to go to any ER/Doctor however I have had persistent symptoms for 5 days that I've never experienced. I have never witnessed this level of dismissiveness from a provider. Payal asked me which tests I felt I need, when I answered she proceeded to say that they don't do any of those unless it's a "real emergency". I've worked in enough ERs to know that that's simply not true. Her assessment was also subpar... listening to two spots on my back as I was speaking (what lung sounds are you hearing over the sound of my voice??). I inquired about other testing (nasal swabs) which she said they also don't do in the ER (also not true, as this is one of the most basic tests in any ER). Lastly Payal told me to set up an appointment with my PCP for those tests. I questioned her on the fact that I would have to wait for an appointment and these symptoms have already been persistent for 5 days. She replied "yea, make an appointment" and abruptly walked out. I waited a few minutes because I wasn't sure if she was coming back or not. When I checked with the ladies at the main nurses station they said yes, you're dismissed. I was floored by the level of unprofessionalism & dismissiveness from a fellow healthcare provider.

The time taken to explain the illness, treatment protocol, medication dosing, need for return if symptoms worsen in both verbal and written method assured we had complete understanding how to care for ourselves on discharge. The quick response placing my daughter in a room from the lobby, exam, and lab tests was impressive. This group of professionals from registration, to MD, NP, RN, and lab could give a seminar on how to provide excellence in care to Free Standing and hospital based ER's. Its the standard others should strive for none less. After they got testing back with her permission they told us we were at risk, due to the type infection and our exposure to her sickness. We were tested and prescribed prophylaxis as recommended by CDC which checked the box for standards of care as well. Healthcare treatment is a choice and as an Registered Nurse myself working over 40 plus years in critical care and ED sometimes your experience is far less than desired or standards of care. Today as a family we were lucky to choose Rice Emergency Room. We are from out of town just blindly walked in but if I lived in Houston Rice ED would be my first choice for care. My decision would not only be from a patient's perspective but as a Healthcare professional. I did not disclose I was a nurse there was no need to. Thank each of you Rice ED staff .

But when people really need the best care, they come to Houston from everywhere in the world. I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had a robotic assisted surgery which took half of my left lung and I was alert conscious and feeling good just a few hours after the 5-hour procedure. because Dr. Kim used robots so the incisions were small, and my recovery was quick. I was sent home the next day. One day stay for major surgery! The timeliness of care was excellent. it was 2 weeks from referral to meet with the surgeon and two additional weeks to schedule the procedure, so I was essentially cured of my cancer within one month. this compares very favorably to the other cancer hospital next foor, which has a waiting list. to summarize, I had a great surgeon, a state-of-the-art operating room, competent nurses and everyone had a good attitude. really couldn't be better.

After registration, Joyce helped me with my vitals and explained the test procedure. I didn't wait too long, and Dr. Elizabeth took care of the paperwork and sent me to the room. I expected compassion and basic medical care, but instead I left feeling humiliated, ignored, and unsafe. Although the doctor briefly spoke with me, no physical exam of any kind was performed. When I asked for assistance to the restroom because I was struggling to walk, one of the nurses simply pointed down the hall and didn't accompany me. I nearly collapsed while trying to get back out of the bathroom and was screaming in pain, yet that same nurse rolled her eyes and walked over slowly before finally helping me into a wheelchair. It was clear she did not care and found me to be an inconvenience. Another nurse, Sonny, was also incredibly rude and lacked compassion entirely. She seemed annoyed by my questions and at one point even said, "Well what do you want me to do about it?" I understand it was a holiday and the staff may not have wanted to be there -- but I certainly didn't want to be there either. I was in a medical crisis and deserved to be treated with basic empathy, not dismissal. The only person who provided quality care was a nurse named Mohammad, who was kind, attentive, and treated me like a human being. I am genuinely grateful for him. Unfortunately, the actions of the rest of the staff overshadowed everything else. I felt vulnerable, helpless, and disbelieved throughout the experience. This clinic made me feel like my pain didn't matter and like I was a burden for needing help. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone, and I believe this location is a disgrace to the Houston Methodist brand. No patient should ever be treated the way I was treated.

I received a CT scan, was forced to do a urinalysis and spent maybe five minutes with a doctor. The hospital billed over $31,000 for this. Over $28,000 of that was just for the CT scan alone. Even with strong insurance coverage, they still collected more than $4,000 for this visit, and I'm being charged over $1,000 out of pocket. That alone is outrageous, but what makes this truly unacceptable is what happened after. I spent MONTHS trying to get a clear, honest explanation of these charges. I asked multiple times for their chargemaster rates and fair/self-pay pricing so I could understand how a one-hour ER visit could cost this much. They refused. No transparency or accountability, just an enormous bill and zero willingness to justify it. This isn't just expensive healthcare, it feels deliberately opaque and predatory. Patients are left completely in the dark while being charged absurd amounts for minimal emergency care. I would never return here, and I strongly recommend others think twice before trusting this facility. There are better, more transparent healthcare providers out there.

Every single staff member I encountered was friendly, compassionate, and professional. Having to go to the ER can be a traumatizing experience because you are already worried about what is going on with yourself. They were attentive, patient, and never once dismissive of my worries. They took the time to really talk with me, understand my history, and explain everything thoroughly. That level of care and communication is rare and so appreciated. Even though The Heights Emergency Room is a stand-alone ER not tied to a big hospital network, they are impressively well equipped. Their rooms are spacious, comfortable, and as clean as any hospital ER I have ever seen. They also have the equipment to test for a wide range of issues on site, and my labs were drawn and processed right there with results coming back quickly. That kind of efficiency gave me real peace of mind. Since I was there most of the day, they even arranged Chick-fil-A for me, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch. It really made me feel cared for as a person, not just a patient. After a very negative past experience at another hospital, this visit was a complete 180.
