The crew with Houston Front Door Refinishing did a remarkable job making our Brazilian Cherry double front door look better than when it was new! The crew showed up at the designated time and went straight to work. They carried parts and replaced the weather strip on the bottom of the doors. They also reset the hole for the strike plate and the door securely closes better than when it was installed! They took their time and made sure that the door had all the coats the wood needed and then they sealed it with a smooth urethane finish. I highly recommend this company. First off, all the personnel that I dealt with over text, in-person, or phone were very nice/professional given the majority of the conversations were discussing problems; they never became rude or aggressive. For that reason, I gave them two stars. That aside, here is my review. The guys were very responsive and came out within a few days. They were rushed to hang the door back up given the weather was turning bad. As they were leaving, the guy said to just contact them on any issues with the repair and they will come out. That same day, I sent him a text showing where they had left fingerprints on the door (see attached photo); he said to let it cure a few more days. At this point, I felt good they would fix their error and expected them to contact me to fix their mistake. Upon further inspection of the door, I was more disappointed (see attached photos). There was obviously a rush to sand, used excess paint in multiple areas causing runs, and just missed places all together. Again, see photos. So about two weeks after the job, still waiting to hear back from this company, I finally decided to text them to fix their mistakes. Their response to me was, there is a $100 trip fee to just come out. I was obviously a bit bewildered by this response, because it was their error. The guy I was texting would not back down and mentioned the cost of paint. I'm thinking ok, you need paint to fix your mistake and a job that cost me over $500. Supposedly this was the cost to do full exterior and freshen up interior. Freshen up interior meant, to spend 2 minutes putting oil on inside of door (a complete waste of my money). The conversation ended with me stating that I was going to put honest reviews up on my experience. At that point, he said they would come out at no cost to repair, and they didn't want a negative review. My response to him, I gave him many opportunities to do the right thing as he said he would in-person, and he refused to do so until I mentioned a negative review. My thoughts, do the job right the first time. If you don't, do what is right by the customer. At least, fix your mistakes. I told them to stay away from my house and they can keep my money for a job they failed at. I'll fix their mistakes with my own time and money. On principle, I felt customers should know about my experience, so I refused their offer to repair. The reason, they are not doing it to provide a good customer service experience; they are only doing it to prevent the truth about their customer service. Customers should be aware of companies like this. I have purchased many door refinishes; this by far was my worst experience and costliest. I fell for the nice web page and reviews. It sounds like others had a positive experience, but I have not and would not refer this company. Everything stated in this e-mail is 100% factual and truthful. I'm not looking for anything from this company and will accept nothing to remove this review. This just cost me a lot of money and now my time to fix their bad workmanship. Owner Edward was professional and did a good job refinishing my front door. They were running late from their previous job and texted to let me know they would be late to my appointment. Even though they arrived late in the day, they stayed and finished everything and completed the job. There was an issue on one panel of my door that we noticed after everything dried and you could see the finished product. It took a while to get the scheduled to come back out and touch up that defective spot, but they eventually did and now looks great. Of course the communication was through text messages, you'd never know when you get an answer. Called but went straight to the voicemail. Before that, I sent photos of the door per request. Got a quote and agreed the price. We got a date of the service. I sent a text message to get a confirmation a day before the service to make sure the schedule was still a go. The appointment was 10 am. Low and behold at 11:30 am, my wife texted if there was a change in plan and I said no. I checked my phone for some messages but none. I texted asking where they were. The owner replied that he thought the schedule was in the afternoon. I said no, you texted back and confirmed our appointment and that was just yesterday. Bottom line is, issues may come up and we would understand if there was a proper communication that they would be late. Who would not understand? Just let us know. read more

I would have given them a five were it not for late arrival but those things happen. However, I was impressed with their work and follow-through. After the first attempt, most of the door looked great but the bottom portion that was the worst soaked up a lot of the stain and finish so they were prompt in returning to add another coat and complete the refinishing to where it looked better and felt smooth. Tip: It's really easy to get an estimate! I sent a picture of my door and my address to Edward's cell phone number and he was able to send me an estimate. Man, where to begin with this outfit. We contacted them and sent photos of our front door to them. It's an oversized door. We established that in the photos and the calls. We got a quote and set a date of 5/23 to refinish the door. Got a call on Saturday, 5/19 asking if they could do it that morning. Sure, no problem. That's where the wheels fell off. Two guys show up and immediately start complaining about the size of the door. They have nothing to cover our hardwood floors, so I get them some blankets. They take the door off and proceed to refinish the door. Under a tree. With the wind blowing. After the half ass, dust bunny filled refinishing, they move to put the door back on. In the process the gouge the hell out of an interior wall and interior trim in our entry way. When I point that out to him, one of the guys says "Yeah, the door fell in on that wall." The lead guy gets all huffy and says "What do you expect, it's an oversized door." Well, I'll tell you what I expect when I use a professional door refinishing company -- no damage to my house and a lack of dust and specks all over the refinished door. I call the owner, Edward, who says he'll be right over. In the meantime, the two guys who were doing the job just leave. No heads up, no notice. They leave the door wide open, without even finishing putting the hinge pins or the peep hole back in! They also didn't even clean up -- leaving plastic, stain rags, sand paper and tape on my front yard. Owner shows up (after I've spent 20 minutes trying to get the dirt and specks off the sticky door with a toothpick. He looks at my damaged walls, shrugs and says "it's a heavy, oversized door. I bet you couldn't even lift it." No shit, Sherlock. That's why I hired what I thought was a competent door refinishing company. I just paid him (he did take $100 off the price) and asked him to leave. Bottom line: use someone else to refinish your door. These guys couldn't pour piss out of a boot with a hole in the toe and instructions on the heel. read more

Our 6 year-old front door was in horrible shape - cracking and peeling - from the direct West sun it endurs every day. This was the worst experience we have ever had. The owner sent his relative to refinish our front door. He asked for 300.00 in cash. Did a terrible job, even varnished a bug in the door. The owner came back to finish it but after getting it halfway finished, he was called away and said he would be back. I called him numerous times.
