There were 2 signs, but the cashier took one down to show the manager. 50% off.

I frequent this location every season and rarely have to communicate with the staff. Today was one of those rare days. I wasn't surprised at the lack of empowerment and customer service (there is a reason I try to avoid communication), but what I asked about seemed like a small request, so I wanted to share my experience. After selecting my 11 plants I passed an area that had 2 signs for 50% off on seeds. Not something I was there to purchase, but why not? When they rang up regular price I asked the nice cashier (Sealy/celia?) about the 50% off sign. She referred to the register stating "no, they aren't on sale". I showed her the 2 signs and she took one to the manager who she referred to as "Balthazar". She told me he said no. I thought surely if he'd see the sign and realized I only had 3 packages he wouldn't mind giving a discount of less than $2.50. We nicely asked again (a smile sometimes goes a long way), but he was adamant and said something about him coming back from vacation and he couldn't do it. I don't know what that had to do with anything, but I do know that his actions were a missed opportunity to deliver basic customer service by simply honoring what the store had advertised on-site and it would have cost the store less than $3!! It wasn't a big purchase, but it wasn't money that I was planning on spending, so I put them back. This is not a gripe letter. Just a customer comment to say sometimes it's okay to say "yes" to the small requests of customers, especially if it is plainly advertised in the store and it will cost you little to nothing. I still purchased my plants and I will return again because I love your selection. I want to add again, the cashier was really sweet and helpful.

Depending on your…read moreproject you can shop at the big box stores which provide for your average needs, but if you are doing any kind of private landscaping, gardening or want the exacting standards of quality materials with low environmental impact then local businesses like Nature's Way Resources is the way to go. For this project, I aerated and dethatched part of my front yard and it was in need of a good base layer for the soil to recover; in addition to, landscaping a front patio area. I ordered 1 1/2 Cubic Yard Leaf Mold Compost, 1/2 Yard of Landscaper mix, a few Black-eyed Susan, a Mexican Sage bush and some other pollinators. Due to the time saved from gathering all my materials from this one location saved me $$$ and I was able to complete the project in a weekend. If your need is not as expansive they offer bagged soil for smaller needs, but to get the best value I would partner with a fellow DIYers with pickup trucks and order loose materials or have it delivered on site. Nature's Way Resources also have a big selection of mulch, compost, fertilizers and offer a Green Waste Recycling program. If you read this post to the end, I will let you in on a little secret.....they have a rock garden in the rear where contractors and DIYers dump material not needed and you will find some gems for FREE. All you need to do is sign a liability waiver at the front desk and recommend you have some sturdy steel toe boots, gloves, and watch out for critters.

It seemed like when employees saw customers coming, they avoided eye contact or walked the other way to avoid assisting. I asked two different employees for help. I was looking for cabinet fasteners, and one employee simply pointed toward aisle 16. When I asked where exactly in the aisle they were located, she vaguely replied, "over there." Later, I asked another employee about outdoor outlet covers. He told me the aisle location, but when I asked for help finding the specific type I needed, he ignored me, walked away, and said he was busy with someone else. I then noticed him walk to the back of the store and disappear. Customer service and basic assistance should not be this difficult, especially in a store with plenty of employees present.

One employee (Ruben) laughed and said he didn't know how and hadn't learned so he wouldn't have to do it. I guess he thinks this is funny. I'd fire him on the spot as that's a lousy attitude to exhibit to customers. Maybe it was just that department, but I get better service at Lowe's. Finally, another employee (Faith) came and did an efficient job with courtesy. I guess it's hard to get good help.
