They don't have the plant and they aren't allowed to call other locations that have to see if they have it. Worst experience ever. He said "those phones don't even work", hahaha what a joke. Update: I went to Buchanan not far away from Houston Garden Center, and they answered the phone, had exactly what they said they had, and was VERY helpful in the process.

So Folks, after reading through these posts, I finally developed the courage to make a short post -…read moreregarding Houston Garden Centers. Yes. they've been around for years and have been very successful acquiring solid locations around Houston. They also have achieved significantly strong leverage with Wholesalers / Growers around the USA. Having spent many years purchasing from them, I'd like to help anyone who enjoys gardening as much as I do. Considerations: 1. Can they help you troubleshoot and resolve a broad spectrum of plant/lawn disease, pesticide, or fungal problem(s). Moreover, are they competent enough to prescribe a solution? 2. Plant ID / Genus / Subgenus - a Texas "Common Name" and planting tips; just be careful that you are confident with the advice. 3. Do your research. Identify your planting locations; for example, Full Sun vs. Full Shade - moist soil, types of soil, etc. 4. Lastly, learn plant maturity, age, and grade. Avoid a price per gallon, or pack. Example - a 5 gal. plant may not be as mature as a similar plant (by age and show) as a 1-3 gallon. Importantly - Plants, Turf, and Bedding Plants are grown / prorogated differently; think of plants like eggs; Grade A....Grade AAAA, etc. Local nurseries that offer warranty on plants are at the very least confident they are providing you the best purchase. Low grade, high volume, leveraged surplus plants that are discounted, etc. by inventory are often offered at a discount, but marketed at or below competitors. Consider your options and look at plant health, size and age/maturity; don't get distracted by blooms / growth / color, until you can understand age and survivability. If you know what you need and are willing to work hard to establish their products, then they are a good fit. If you are someone that want's to learn to become a "green thumb" then I'd recommend the local nursery's first. One last comment, essentially its all chemistry, but you can learn quite a bit more from a local nursery expert that employs an expert, such as a Texas Certified Nursery Professional, or TNLA, etc. Hope this helps you guys!

Great selection of organic materials for the commercial, landscapers or DIYers. Depending on your…read moreproject you can shop at the big box stores which provide for your average needs, but if you are doing any kind of private landscaping, gardening or want the exacting standards of quality materials with low environmental impact then local businesses like Nature's Way Resources is the way to go. For this project, I aerated and dethatched part of my front yard and it was in need of a good base layer for the soil to recover; in addition to, landscaping a front patio area. I ordered 1 1/2 Cubic Yard Leaf Mold Compost, 1/2 Yard of Landscaper mix, a few Black-eyed Susan, a Mexican Sage bush and some other pollinators. Due to the time saved from gathering all my materials from this one location saved me $$$ and I was able to complete the project in a weekend. If your need is not as expansive they offer bagged soil for smaller needs, but to get the best value I would partner with a fellow DIYers with pickup trucks and order loose materials or have it delivered on site. Nature's Way Resources also have a big selection of mulch, compost, fertilizers and offer a Green Waste Recycling program. If you read this post to the end, I will let you in on a little secret.....they have a rock garden in the rear where contractors and DIYers dump material not needed and you will find some gems for FREE. All you need to do is sign a liability waiver at the front desk and recommend you have some sturdy steel toe boots, gloves, and watch out for critters.

This is one of the best, if not the best, native nurseries in greater Houston in my opinion…read more Knowledgeable staff and high-quality offerings for your yard. With extreme weather events more and common, it's a great idea to introduce some native plantings to your yard.
