I went to the garden center for assistance. The staff, mostly very young workers, were all friendly, but very little knowledge. I stopped looking after the 3rd plant I named was not available. We came here to find a certain plant, but due to the season, most of the stuff they have right now is all Christmas related plants. I did not realize how big this place is but they have plenty of worker there to help you, the employees there are very knowledgeable about the plants they have there. read more

I really didn't know I needed an escort when shopping for flowers, but the manager Luis made sure it was his duty to follow me to at every register I stopped at. Even when speaking to customers he not friendly at all I would not recommend shopping at this location only because of him. Other than that the variety is decent but you can tell people move plants around a lot because the price on the sign is not what the plant rings up for. This location needs some work! read more

The first time I bought trees here the employee was clearly drunk and made fun of me to the other employees for taking the wrong tag off the tree. It was noon I came back again today to replace a tree. I asked the cashier if he could check my records so I could buy the same tree. The clerk rudely said "we don't keep no records here"! So I went out and looked and found a possible tree replacement. But I had a question. When I finally found someone to help me he was extremely rude and annoyed at me. He grabbed the tag off a quickly walked in front of me into the store. I had a question about when the landscaper could pick it up and he continued to be annoyed (this was a $500 tree). His English was very poor. When I asked to see the manager he told me he was the manager. So I walked out and went to another garden store nearby (The Ground Up) where they couldn't have been nicer. The same tree was $170 too. I've spent $1000's at HGC but I'm now taking my business elsewhere where the customer service is way better. read more

Got plants?? Houston Garden Centers usually have great deals on flowers and plants. I try to grow my from seeds, but who doesn't love to buy them already grown? I was recently looking for some flowers to compliment my garden. I'm not sure what kind of flowers I want yet, but I wanted to see what my options were. I saw a lot of pretty flowers, but non gave me the "feel." You know, the one that tells you: "I'm the one!" So, for now I will continue looking until I find the one I want! read more

Got our 6 foot Fraser fir Xmas tree today, fresh cut with tree food for a little over $60 out the door. The 7-8' ran about $90. Little needles have fallen while decorating and we hope to see it last through the month. Quick and efficient service. Will update with tree progress. 3 weeks later and it's Xmas eve. Our tree is still standing and full of needles, although if I touch the branches, some needles will fall. Attached are photos. Reading the other reviews, I think it's a hit or miss with how fresh the tree is during initial purchase. read more

If I could give a negative star I would! Very disappointed in this location MOSTLY due to the customer service. On 12/9 we purchased a very nice full tree. 4 days later half of the tree was one my ground. The pines were taking off like crazy. We contacted the location after having a tree for four days. This location did not provide any solutions other than call somebody else. They were non-apologetic or sympathetic towards our frustration. So the night before Christmas celebration we had to on decorate the tree take that one down returned it to the location and go find another tree before our Christmas party! I'm really disappointed in the lack of care from the customer service. We have had two friends that purchased tree from the same location had the exact same problem and these are not cheap trees! We have called and Complained with no solution. They charged us $10 to put it on a stand. The nails were poking out. Avoid this place!! I purchased a flowering bush from this company, The bush was marked with a certain color souer on the tag. Shortly after planting the bush I realized the flower was not the color that we had asked for, I never even took the tags off. So I'm thinking it won't be a big deal I brought the plant back to the nursery and asked if I could exchange it for the correct color flower. They said no we have a no return or exchange policy. Even though the plant has the wrong color for what is on the tag. Was all this really worth it? I won't be back. read more

I entered this location after work to get some products for my lawn. I hadn't treated my yard this year and didn't know where to start because it was damaged from the freeze. I walked around clueless and overwhelmed because they had an abundance of products, so I walked to the cashier because I didn't see anyone else working but another cashier. I asked if I could get some assistance because I clearly didn't know where to start and the cashier looking and acting annoyed sent me to a gentleman sitting pruning flowers. I asked the gentleman if he could assist me and he clearly DID NOT SPEAK ENGLISH! I walked back to the front and this annoyed cashier has the audacity to ask me ok now what do you want..... my response was "to go to an establishment that values my business! The absolute worst customer service I've had in a while. I went because I purchased Two huge jatropha trees. One is doing great the other has developed some thick white fungus looking stuff on the branches and leaves and just destroyed the tree. In any case I went by for some assistance and I walk up to where 3 employees are standing, one smiled (i think she was training), the gentleman spoke, and the heavy set lady with several tattoos all over her arms, hands and neck just looked at me. she starred so long, no greeting, I ask are you all available to help me. My family and I went to pick up some plants, one of them was defected, so the cashier took off for the plant. Before we left you have to present your receipt, however the foreman named Marcos accused us of switching plants and stealing! We literally walked down from payment and handed him the receipt (and he was able to watch us pay)! Gets loud and outrageous with my husband in front of everyone at the store; it was EMBARRASSING!!. I asked the manager to do her job and instruct her employee not to yell at my husband and she replies "I can't leave my post!" and asked her how can she be a manager and allow her staff to speak to a paying customer this way. Do not purchase plants from them. I can recommend so many other options now AFTER doing my research. I purchased corn plants from the West Loop location and they died within a weeks time. There products aren't healthy at all. Fungus ridden of some sort. I called the office to express my concern and Jennifer answered. Rude and obnoxious. Claimed they've never had a report like this yet yelp has a plethora of low reviews. I should've read them first. I asked for upper management and she claimed the owner "Ron Hopper" wasn't in. This is not a corporate office or a business. This is a mess. Unprofessional, cheap, slave labor of a profit scheme. No refunds or exchanges all sales are final is there policy. If anyone is aware of any type of agriculture officials or regulators I could contact to shut them down please let me know. I pay well. I've been twice now and both times the employees were nice and helpful. I bought a plant the first time and knew exactly what I wanted so didn't need any help. The cashier was super nice when checking out. The next time we went for mulch and she showed us where it was and told us the easiest way to get it to the car. When we were walking around to look at it we were greeted by a few employees. They have great deals sometimes with 1/2 priced plants. Found the mulch cheaper at Home Depot right down the street but a good place for plants and trees. read more

I bought 30 plants yesterday and when I went to plant them one of them was rotten. I went back to get one that wasn't dead and they pointed out to me that there are no returns or exchanges on the bottom of the receipt. Seems really bad for business. Don't think I'm be back. Lowes and Home Depot will take plants back even if I killed it. Make sure to check the plants you buy before you leave. Overall a good experience. I was concerned after reading so many less than favorable reviews. I was shopping for a variety of greenery so I had several questions and multiple request, Kenneth was informative and very help. There were 2 other employees I interacted with that were helpful as well, one of them was Omar. There was a good variety and prices were competitive. I'll be back. read more

DO NOT BUY YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE HERE! We bought a 7-8 foot fraiser fur and needles started falling dramatically within 24 hours. We paid the extra $3 for the "fresh cut" too..... It never drank any of the water we put in the stand. I have 3 friends who bought from there and had the EXACT same issue. And in reading the other reviews, it appears to be a widespread issue specific to Houston Garden Centers throughout Houston. They aren't answering their phones and do not accept any responsibility. Due to this, I will literally never shop there again --- for anything. I had to go out an BUY A NEW TREE from Home Depot. This place is a rip off and lacks integrity. If your tree is basically bare and droopy within 5 days of purchasing it, they should do the right thing. We bought our Christmas tree on December 3rd from the Houston Garden Center at I-10 and the Beltway. While the overall service was fine the tree is not!! Within a couple of days the needles starting dropping like crazy and haven't stopped! The bottom 1/3 of our tree is pretty much just sticks now (2 weeks later). It looks terrible. Even with water the tree is very dry since getting it home. I'm pretty sure it isn't even drinking the water... Every morning I get up and the floor is covered in needles. And if you dare touch the tree or walk close to it the needles fall off! I have had to start removing ornaments as the limbs aren't able to hold up the weight. I have lost a couple already that fell off the tree at night and broke. It's been the worst Christmas tree experience ever! Will NOT buy from there again! read more

Always believing in second chances, I took the chance and went back to this Houston Garden Center. MISTAKE! Different staff, but same horrible attitude. There was no one at the garden center, yet no one approached and asked if they could help, even though I had been searching for quite a while. I asked the young man at the front why he didn't come over to help me. He said he didn't have to! Then he started to argue with me, the customer!!! There is no service, no help, not even common courtesy at this store. Obviously, this is a corporate attitude. Suggestion: pay a few cents more, go to Cornelius, where the staff bend over backwards to help, to show you merchandise, make suggestions. read more

Yes, the help working there are not fluent in english - the cashiers are, but they aren't very friendly - but who cares?! I went there for the cheap plants, not the steller customer service. We've always had good service and friendly atmosphere when we do our plant shopping...always good suggestions when we start our yearly planting. The reason for the poor review/2 stars this time is because of the experience with the Christmas trees we've purchased the last two years. We have a Fraser Fur...cost close to $100.......We always make sure the bottom is fresh cut to allow water absorption and add tree "food" that they sell, but even with that the last two trees we've bought have dried out and stopped taking water after a day or two. At this point this year we've had the tree for 10 days and the thing is almost completely dead, dropping needles, etc., even considering taking it down....Trees not fresh?...Need to be set in water while being displayed?(some Christmas tree sellers do this). Next time we're up there I plan on mention this...may have a follow up soon. read more

This place has beautiful flowers but the cashier is very rude and does not pay attention. Before I can even pull out my visa card the cashier said we dont take AMEX. Why was she so focused on whats in my purse. She didnt even realize I didnt need to sign for my purchase. They need better cashiers if all of them are like her. Bought our tree on December 2nd - it was so pretty and perfect. Now...it is December 17th and the needles are falling off in mass quantities. I've never had a tree die so quickly. And yes...we cut a slice off the trunk before putting it in water. And yes...we are putting water in the stand. HGC doesn't do returns. Don't buy anything from this store. read more
