This is my happy place. I come quite often. Not necessarily to shop, but to go sit a commune with the KOI or wander the plants to see the wild butterflies. The staff are simply wonderful, genuinely friendly, and extremely helpful. Also, they hand out KOI pellets to those of us who are addicted to them. I have had the privilege and pet the KOI while feeding. It's unlike any other experience you've had. My most recent visit was to pick up some "Dirty Dirt" which is dirt made from food waste compost from the Heights area of Houston. While they're much more expensive, its top quality product and all of my plants thrive living in it. I planted my most recent batch of garden plants, several different types of Certified Organic/Non-GMO potatoes (the plants are sprouting thru the dirt and it's only been a week!). In addition, I got an Orange tree, Swiss Mint, and a few other little goodies for my back yard. The staff answered all of my questions and I went home feeling like I had a true experience. I spent 2.5 hours there, they were very peaceful and happy 2.5 hours. I highly recommend spending some time here. read more

What a fun and (serene) shopping experience. We drove aaallll the way from Downtown to check out Nelson Water Gardens & Nursery, and I was expecting a nice selection, but they exceeded my expectations. If you have a koi pond or are thinking of getting one, start here. They had so many in various sizes, an assortment of fish, lillies and other water plants, fountains... and then your regular nursery selection. We bought some stuff for algae control, a water pump, and some faux wood floaters made from cork. read more

This is nursery is so cute! I took minute to sit and enjoy their koi pond. The koi were so big! They have a nice collection of water/fountain features and plants. Their herb and succulent collection is nice too. I decided to grab peppermint and lavender. The employees were very nice and helpful. I scored 3 stars because their indoor plant collection was overpriced, nice, but overpriced in my opinion. I would return for more herbs definitely. Y'all check Nelson's out! read more

Your Facebook response was not accurate. In addition to automatic sprinklers, plants were also hand watered. Instead of showing photos at time of installation, please post photos taken 6 months later. Peter Nelson did replace several plants in front Bed. The only problem is that he placed plants that need full sun were planted in a shady area. I was told holly trees would bee replaced, but Peter then said no replacements, six months later after he had been paid. Peter told me plants were guaranteed for one year, he did not inform me of any exceptions. read more

I would not recommend this business to anyone. My parents hired Peter to completely transform their back and front yard. Peter refused to follow his guarantee of one-year replacement for any plants that die. He was rude and unprofessional. He stomped his feet like a child when getting feedback on his work. Just went to Nelson's this week for perennials and it was - as always - spectacular. The service was excellent. Three associates asked if I needed help as they were going about their business, and the woman who checked me out volunteered information about how best to grow what I was buying when I told her I was buying a "new to me" plant. Their selection of plants is extensive and the information cards they post on each display are incredibly helpful. The plant quality is excellent and prices are in line with other nurseries. Finally, it's a really lovely place to walk through with all the fountains and water burbling and to visit the koi ponds. read more

Beautiful shop and super friendly people make this garden store one you need to visit. My wife and I were referred to Nelson Water gardens by our landscaper. He said "they have a big supply of large deco pots and fountains " and wanted us to pick one out for a project he is doing in our front garden. ADD moment: Wow, I can't believe I have a landscaper... it sounds like I'm a Vanderbilt or something! Anyway and back to the point: we went to this store and were amazed! If anyone is considering a water garden then you need to come to Nelson's. We aren't, but we will be returning because they offer some really nice pottery and garden deco that isn't found in the big hardware chains. If nothing else, consider a walk through their property as a visit to a really nice garden. And the people are all great. read more

If you have a pond then you NEED to know about Nelson Water Gardens. When we purchased our home 8 years ago, one of the selling points was the backyard pond. Having never had a pond, I had no idea they can be so much work. Filters, pumps, Koi, plants, roots, algae, etc.... it can become overwhelming! We've been to Nelson's a few times for inspiration, parts, pumps, etc... They have very knowledgeable people who are always there to answer questions and give advice. Recently, we went for some advice about our pond. Before we got to the nitty gritty, we wandered around and saw the beautiful pond displays. There are a variety of different types of water features on display as well as plants and fish for sale. After we wandered around we spoke to one of the employees and got a small pump that we thought would work for our needs. Unfortunately, the pump was a bit flimsy and we had to return it. When we went back to return it we had to deal with a rather unpleasant employee who was irritated at our return even though it had only been 6 days, we had the receipt, and the pump was like new and in its original packaging. Even with her surly attitude, I still rate Nelson's a 4 star place. I don't know anywhere else in the greater Houston area where you can see beautiful ponds on display, purchase equipment, and talk to people who know their stuff. I also love the variety of Koi for sale as well as bull frog tadpoles! If you are in the area, check it out. It's a great place to just wander through. read more

Any time we've needed supplies for the pond, we've loaded up and headed out to Nelson's because we know they carry the absolute best pond supplies. Each time I go there, I find something new that I try to make a place for in the back yard. The hidden fountains made with beautiful containers are in the running to take the place of our fire pit. I'm such a sucker for beautiful flowing water and all of the accessories Nelson can supply to make my back yard a glorious wonderland of waterscapes. Went by with my friend because she goes there all the time. I got approached by 2 employees within the first 5 min, which I didn't think much of. In the 15 min I was there I kept getting interrupted and followed around by multiple employees. This is one of the best local nurseries in Katy and the west side of Houston. There are Master Gardeners who swear by this place for good reasons. Plants are well cared for, selection is good, and while the pricing is high compared to the big box stores this is a nursery where you really do get what you pay for. The grounds are beautiful. This is a cool place! We were in search of tall planters, and this place was suggested. They do have a great selection of pots, but mostly seemed purposed for fountains. Given the name of the place being "water gardens" that is appropriate just not for my purposes. So I did not find what I was looking for. But during the search, there is a gift shop/plant house indoors with all kinds of cool tchotchkes - gardening supplies, humorous signage, napkins you name it. You can walk the garden area and see all kinds of plants and fountains. There is even a spot with a coy pond and a feeder. For 25 cents, you can get a handful of fish food and amuse yourself as the fish battle for the morsels. read more

I was able to find expanded shale here to amend the clay soil in my backyard. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable.

Today, I was asking discounts on clearance pots. Total sale price for 4 pots $190 .He said he can give me only 10% discount- $171.00. I bargained for $160.00. He then replied , " after a wk, if it is still here I will give it to you for $160.00)". I told him, " what is with the attitude?." I asked his name , i think its GEORGE. And then he said, " I AM THE OWNER." TALK ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have been going to this nursery since 2007 when we moved in this area. I bought several plants, pots and fountain through the years asking discounts on clearance items along with my neighbors . The staff sometimes give us discounts and other times they don't. They would POLITELY told me , " sorry we can't give it ". And that is fine. I have been always impressed with the customer service, how the staff always ask if you need assistance.
