I think this might be my least favorite airport that I've ever been in. Flew in on a United flight and believe we were in the terminal/gates that only service United. Everything in the terminal was automated. No table service. All QR code based. Everything was closed. Very bizarre and unwelcoming. The customs and TSA lines were insane. Two people working and all the other lanes were closed. The entire airport was on a ground stop due to weather when we flew in and there was no staff providing updates anywhere. Over all just a terrible vibe.

I try to avoid layovers but this time I had no choice to spend four miserable and agonizing hours at Houston International Airport. Although they are making some much needed improvements. This airport is dingy, dirty, lacks hospitality, reeks of unpleasant turd odors, burnt food, and unwashed patrons. I did enjoy the art displays, moving walkway, and recliner seats onlooking the blue skies and Southwest airport apron. The female restrooms were attended to routinely: They offer free feminine hygiene products, red light that shows when a stall is occupied, baby changing area, and vanity area. The food did not look appealing Tex-Mex, Barbeque, etc. so I opted for a fruit cup, tater tots, and bottled water from Chickfil-A. It held me over for 90 mins and now it is time for lunch.

We were sit at gate E10, and the view of all the red lantern and background board is so beautiful. That is actually a restaurant!

The coolest part of the airport are the pickup areas that are easy to get to and also convenient for the cars. Oh! I've also never seen a TripAdvisor store before so that was pretty neat. The airport is clean with clear direction of where to go. The restaurants, shops, and convenient stores are also clean and well stocked. I would definitely recommend Thai airport for layovers or for flying into Houston as more airlines offer flights that land here.

Pros: Southwest hub Easy to navigate Not crazy crowded Some recliners available Nice piano music at center of airport Cons: Not enough food selections Feels like most are owned by Pappadeux chain and are crazy expensive - $20 for a burger?! Pro tip: Bring your own snacks and empty water bottle to fill when you get through security Listen to piano music if you have time

This airport is filthy and the construction makes it a nightmare to navigate. No thanks. Will try Houston hobby next time.

Terminal 2 was clear when I arrived so I didn't have to run through a bunch of people, it was a pleasant arrival. Signage for bag claim and shuttles could've been slightly better. I was able to navigate fairly easily for the most part, however it seems the closer you get to your destination it's easier to get confused or lost. I adored the astronaut cow near the IAH entrance and the big photo-op letters! The quirky cowboy aesthetic was phenomenal. I arrived during the World Cup so the airport had plenty of soccer mannequins and memorabilia. Gift shops had space suits and Astros merch. The gentlemen at the shuttle/rideshare area were so nice! They gave me thorough directions on where to locate The Parking Spot shuttle. Additionally, when I returned a few days later for departure I had a favorable experience with a Clear TSA agent, she was very polite and helpful. I never have heartwarming experiences with TSA, I did here! She walked me through the fast lane process and brought levity to a stressful environment for many. Seats are comfortable in the terminals, bathrooms could be cleaner. I saw some trash on the floor in the men's restroom.

My only knock is due to construction the airport was a little confusing. For instance Zone 5 is actually two separate sections and you can't see each other. Minor nit. Half of baggage claim six was inaccessible from blocked off construction so bags got stuck on the other side... but construction workers helped people. Mine was stuck in a closed AA office because it arrived early so they had it better.

At the gate, I was carrying a CPAP machine (which is a medical device), a carry-on bag, and a very small fanny pack that was approximately 3 x 4 inches. The gate agent rushed me and told me I needed to condense everything immediately. She showed no concern that one of the items I was carrying was a CPAP machine, which is considered a medical device and is generally not counted as a standard carry-on. I was also carrying it for my father, who has severe arthritis and has difficulty carrying his own belongings. While I was being rushed, I told my mother, "How irritating." I was expressing my frustration to my mom--I was not speaking to or directing the comment at the gate agent. Despite that, after I boarded the plane, the gate agent stopped my mother and told her they would remove me from the flight simply because I had said, "How irritating." Which seems kind of taking your rights away. Does southwest not believe in freedom of speech?? Do I have to be careful what I tell my mother or I'm going to get thrown out ?? The interaction felt unnecessarily hostile and unprofessional . Whether this was due to poor training, a power trip, or something else , no passenger should be treated this way, especially when traveling with medical equipment. Southwest, please do better. Train your employees on the policies regarding medical devices such as CPAP machines, and remind them that passengers deserve to be treated with professionalism and respect, even during stressful boarding situations.

In the lower gate A numbers (A1-A15) they now have 2 new eating restaurants. In addition to the Breakfast Klub (southern breakfast/brunch food), they now have Simone Biles Taste of Gold (American, cocktails) & El Tiempo Cantina (Mexican, cocktails). I'm pretty sure they changed out a few of the fast food restaurants but I honestly didn't look at those. They had live music in the center near Breakfast Klub, in the area they call "Symphony in the Air". The live saxophonist & drummer sounded really great. Another change was the exit to baggage claim. It was surprisingly a much longer walk! From the lower A gates you now must walk all the way around toward the higher gates to get to the baggage claim exit. Its about a 5 min walk to get to the baggage exit/escalators. During this walk through the connector hallway of the lower & higher A gates, there is an Art display area called "Houston Airport Artist in Residence (AIR)". The display from local artist is wonderful to see. The enhancements for terminal A are good. Previously, it always felt like one of the more neglected terminals. I know IAH still has a lot of construction underway. I look forward to seeing additional airport improvements.

I arrived mid-afternoon, they must've timed the flights out right! I hate when I arrive to an airport and there's loads of people waiting to board my flight and watching us as we exit the plane. Not here, it was calm and relatively relaxed. Again, I'm only talking about my arrival terminal at the time (the rest of the airport is massive and always busy).
