There are two things that I completely despise. Those are taxes and going to a Dr's office. Dr. Gelb's facility is the exception. I suffered a wicked ankle sprain last year while exercising. I made the stupid mistake of going to an MD now immediately as opposed to visiting an orthopedic. After being in severe pain for over a week I knew that I would have to visit an orthopedic. Dr. Gelb's office came highly recommended to me from a few friends. I finally set up an appointment and made it in fairly quickly. The gal that checked me in made it quick and painless. There wasn't as much paperwork to fill out as I had expected. Once checked in I enjoyed the comfortable chairs in the waiting room. Thankfully I didn't have to wait too long to see the Dr., which usually seems to always be the case and the reasoning of why I avoid the Dr. unless I'm 5' 11" in my grave. I knew that I was in good hands when I saw all of the photos of the professional athletes that had their treatments done here. That definitely helped put me at ease. I ended up having Dr. Woods whom is the foot and ankle specialist at this practice. He gave me a brief introduction on his background. After going through my X-rays from MD now, he then began his examination of my foot and ankle. After my diagnosis he informed me of the physical therapy regimen that would be necessary for my recovery. Dr. Woods also broke the bad news that I would have to wear a stupid boot for about 6 weeks :( I ended up purchasing the boot directly after my visit at their physical therapy office located next door. Naturally there were several follow up visits to check on my progress. Dr. Woods for the most part didn't keep me waiting for too long. There were a couple of occasions when it seemed like an eternity of waiting. The flip side to that was that the practice was busy and they take their time with the patients. All in all I had a great experience here and was happy with the level of care, and treatment, that I received from Dr. Woods and staff. If you're in need of seeing a orthopedic, I highly recommend Dr. Gelb's practice. You won't be disappointed. read more

My experience with Dr. Gelb was extremely disappointing. At my first surgical consultation, Dr. Gelb clearly stated that I needed knee surgery for a complex medial meniscus tear shown on my MRI. However, because of a burn injury on my knee, he advised that I complete physical therapy first and return once the skin had healed. When I returned for follow-up -- just a few weeks later and still in significant pain -- he abruptly told me that my knee was "fine" and completely dismissed my symptoms. The new note omitted all mention of the meniscus tear and the prior surgical plan, even though the second MRI (done within six weeks) showed the same tear and bone edema. Since that visit, I have seen multiple orthopedic surgeons, all of whom confirmed that surgery is needed. I left Dr. Gelb's office feeling dismissed, unheard, and deeply frustrated by the lack of honesty and continuity in my care. Patients deserve to have their pain and imaging findings acknowledged and documented accurately. Unfortunately, that did not happen in my experience with this provider. read more

Dr. Gelb is the most honest orthopedic surgeon I have ever encountered! I have been told by others that I need knee replacements, and one was ready to sign me up for surgery!! I went to Dr. Gelb,,whose office people are delightful and very professional !!! He looked at my X-rays. and told me that I wasn't ready for surgery!! Wow was I happy, he made my day. He gave me PRP, stem cell treatments for my left knee, which hurt a lot. My right knee just stated hurting, so I'm going to make an appointment asap!! I highly recommend him. Super outdated office, rude staff. Lady answering phones VERY argumentative when explaining my issues with them. Hung up on me! They were not able to receive or send emails so I never received the forms to fill out before arriving. Couldn't email them my disc report either. Showed them while there that I sent. Nothing. Also just had an x-ray done and they wouldn't accept it and wanted to charge me again to take another one. Too many other options in Boca. read more

I went to doctor Gelb for a meniscus injury and was very happy with the efficiency of his office staff. I arrived at my appointment time and was seen right away. My second visit went just as well and was amazed that the doctor was able to schedule me for surgery the next week!! dr gelb has a reputation of being an incredible surgeon which i am sure he is, but he crossed a by inserting himself into my life far beyond the role of a surgeon. i was honest with the surgery center about recreational drugs i had done in the past, most recent being over 2 months ago, because of my concern of being put under anesthesia. althought i test negative for all except my prescribed xanax and marijuana- both of which i disclosed with the surgical coordinator and followed all directions given to me as when to discontinue the usage of those two drugs prior to surgery. dr gelb not only spoke to my mother about my drug use (i am a 24 year old adult), but called my primary care doctor as well. i understand it may be coming from a place of care, but i did not feel that way after sitting waiting for surgery for 3 and a half hours and made to cry after i was treated like a drug addict only there to get surgery for painkillers, a surgery which i have been waiting for since april- only to have it cancelled because of being honest about my drug use. he also used scare tactics with my mother saying it was was a serious reconstructive surgery and he couldn't in good conscience prescribe me painkillers that i would need after (i had already been prescribed painkillers by his office which to me is hypocritical) even though when the surgery was scheduled i was told he would be going in with a camera to see what is wrong and then there were a few possibilities of what needed to be done. there was no way to know it was going to be a serious reconstructive surgery when he had not even went in to see what was wrong yet. a doctor has never made me cry but he did. the situation could have been handled completely differently, but the way he handled it, especially with that being the first surgery i would have ever had, makes me want to not get surgery at all- especially not with a man who caused me unnecessary distress in an already stressful situation. he could have said with the new information i have recieved we cannot proceed today and let me leave and it would have been fine- but to stretch it out for over an hour as i sat there crying after being treated like someone who could not be trusted with painkillers simply because of past recreational drug use as he went to speak to my mother and call my primary care physician was unnecessary in my opinion. read more

Dr. Gelb is great. His office is disorganized and always running late. I've been to his office 2 times. Both times I was on time to (a little early) for my appointment. Only to wait over an hour to be seen. The procedure of calling when you get to the parking lot is a pain. You have to call, then wait to get through their long voice prompts, just to check in. It's unnecessary and annoys people. Add an option at the beginning of your call to better route patients. read more

Dr. Gelb is an all around surgical genius. I've had four rotator cuff tear repair surgeries and one subclavian muscle tear repair and the four of them were on the right shoulder from 2014 to may 2021. Arrived at 3:30 for an appointment at 3:45. At 4:30 we were still waiting to be called. This was after I was told that "I was next" 30 minutes earlier. It seems that they are eager to be kind and helpful when you are a new patient, but as soon as you are paid in full they no longer need to impress. I finally left after they pretty much told me that I would be called in about 15 minutes but that I should count on sitting in back for at least another 15 before being seen. My daughter was recently seen at Gelb Sports Medicine Center. I cannot say enough good things about the care and attention we received at this office. From the kind office staff to the amazing and patient Dr. Woods I would highly recommend these physicians and the center to all my friends and family. Had to write a review even though I usually never do, nightmare doctor . I have never seen such a condescending and dismissive, rude doctor . The post op care is the worst I ever seen . I could even overlook the fact that they overbook and your average wait is 2 hours but he spends minutes with you unless he is getting the patient to use him as a surgeon . All I can say is run ! Horrible experience they should make doctors take courses on decent bedside manners . My daughter is I in the medical field and was extremely disturbed by his follow up and care . read more

A doctor/friend in my community recommended Dr. Gelb. His wife had a knee replacement and he felt Dr Gelb was the best surgeon. I am new to Florida so I relied on his opinion. I was very happy with Dr. Gelb and will continue recommending him. He cares about his patients and gives you possible alternatives to try before doing surgery. I was bone on bone and needed a replacement. We hoped it would be a partial but he also had a total ready to go in case my knee looked worse once he got inside. Dr. Gelb is a very skilled and talented surgeon. My surgery went well. I am 15 weeks post surgery. I am coming along and can do just about anything I could do before but without pain. I have my active life back. I can't say enough good things about the doctor. His office staff was wonderful. Always pleasant and helpful. Heather who does the hospital scheduling went out of her way to get me in sooner rather than later due to my severe pain. I did my physical therapy at the office. I really have to credit them for getting me up and walking. Jay is excellent. I worked mostly with Billy who did what it takes even when I screamed and cried. He stuck with me and pushed me when I needed it. He was attentive and there was always someone watching to make sure the exercise were done correctly. I never felt rushed during my sessions. They made sure I did what was necessary and most of the sessions were closer to 2 hours than 1. Great group of people. All are compassionate. The whole practice is well run.
