I went with 7 friends, you enter at Gate 8 off of Clinton Drive, just tell the security guard you are there for the tour. There is a nice plaza to wait at right next to the boats. The parking lot is safe; let's face it, the only folks getting in have to pass security! A bit before 10 am one of the employees came out to check everyone in and handed out bottles of cold water which was great as it was almost 90 degrees outside in full sunlight. We boarded and were asked to sit inside while they got underway. One of the shipmates gave a safety talk and then we were free to go outside. The boat moves along at a pretty good pace, every now and then it slows for tug boat traffic. You get to see the industries that are along the ship channel. There are lots of big ships and also small ones. Some are loading or unloading, others are being repaired or a clean coat of paint. The shipmates serve coffee for the adults on the way and after turning around after about 45 minutes they offer cold water and soft drinks. There are so many photo opportunities so take lots of pictures. You are asked to go inside while they secure to the dock, the air conditioning feels great. Then you are on your way. The entire crew was so nice, they were helpful and friendly and could answer questions. Please, if you plan to take children, keep them under control. While not dangerous, there are things to watch for so you don't trip and the doors for the cabin are very heavy and hard to open and shut quickly so a child could easily get hurt. ANYWAY, Fresh Tap Tours is an awesome service that a) introduces you to craft breweries you might not have known about b) drives you around in an awesome, air-conditioned bus with snacks and c) lets you feel like you're learning something about craft beers and brewing while drinking! win! I took the Galveston tour with FTT--We met up at Nobi, a fine, craft-beer mecca here in the Clear Lake area. From there we went to Galveston Bay Brewing Company (an absolute gem that will have a review coming!), Texas Beer Refinery (currently shacked up at the Clear Lake Shores Food Park, as their facilities are under construction) and Galveston Island Brewing Company. All of these breweries were amazing, and completely new to me. The owners or brewers at each facility give you an overview of their processes and beers, and lots of bevs! They seemed genuinely happy to have us at their facilities. Your ticket includes one or more beers at each of the brewery stops and your transportation on a luxury, air conditioned coach. The FTT tour guides are super friendly, and give you snacks! We even made a stop at buc-ee's for bathrooms and beaver nuggets. Worried that I would have to forfeit the tickets because of last minute sickness, I called and asked if we could reschedule. Fresh Tap Tours was very understanding and rescheduled us for "the connoisseur" (clear lake and galveston area), which ended up being fantastic! Jonathan was a great tour guide. We met at Nobi and then went to Texas Beer Refinery, Galveston Bay Brewing Company, and Saloon Door Brewery. Everyone was so knowledgeable and the beer was so good. We tried a variety of beers...the craziest ones tasted like watermelon, dreamsicle, smoked sausage/brisket, or chocolate and peanut butter. We loved all the breweries and will def be going back to visit each one. We had no idea there were so many throughout Houston, let alone in the Clear Lake/Galveston area. And Jonathan was great at offering suggestions for other breweries for us to try as well. Saloon Door hasn't even opened yet, but we were able to stop in and try a few! We were given snacks, koozies, sunglasses, and some souvenir glasses from the breweries. My fiance and I bought a crowler of the smoked beer as well, it was just too good to pass up. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to try something new in Houston, especially beer lovers or people just wanting to branch out in the beer area.
