Originally from the midwest (Indy/Chicago), i was in town for business and a coworker recommeded this place. It is family owned and they are very friendly and appreciate your business. For my 1st visit, i ordered rib tips, greens, baked beans and fried cornbread. the sides were GREAT!!! the tips were not what i expected. they have a dry rub with sauce on the side. this is NOT midwestern bbq. the flavor i could get used to though. more importantly, the tips needed to be just a little more tender for my liking. overall pretty good though. my co-workers got the sausage dinner and the brisket dinner, both of which they loved. for my 2nd visit, i ordered the bbq chicken. again, dry rub. but it was tender and the sauce enhanced the flavor. i would probably order this again intead of the tips. this place posts that they are open until 7 or 8pm, but actually, they close when they run out of food. so, getting there around 5 or 5:30 is recommended. midwesterners beware! you must be open to trying a new flavor of bbq in order to appreciate this place. it's worth the visit! read more

We came across Howell's Bar-B-Q while headed to Louisiana. My dad is very particular about good bbq and Howell's gave us some of the best we've had in a long time. My mother had the baked potato with chopped beef, it was very good and truly stuffed with bnq beef, tomatoes, olives, cheese bacon and topped with sour cream and ranch which turned out to be an amazing combination. Dad, my daughter and I all had chopped beef sandwiches. There is a choice of sauces, mild and hot. A nice selection of sides rounded out our plates. This place is a small gem and I highly recommend stopping by when you are in the area. read more

I always hunt BBQ and there are only 2 options for BBQ in El Dorado. Howells is easy to get to and isn't much to look at, but it is satisfying. I've had pork, ribs, and brisket. Pork was really tender and mixes well with the 2 sauces...mild and spicy. Ribs were seasoned well and were also tender. Brisket was ok. The 2 sauces are ketchup based and have good smoky taste to it. Potato salad is mustard base and chilled. Beans seemed like to be Bush beans with extra added. The owner was very helpful and made sure I had everything I needed. read more

Small bbq place but the food is very good. The beans and greens are a must try. The rib tips, pulled pork, chopped pork and ribs are also a few items that others in our party ordered. This place has great barbecue! We got chopped beef sandwiches, but you can also get it sliced if you prefer. The barbecue had such a great smoky flavor that we really didn't use much barbecue sauce. Their mild and spicy sauces were flavorful; we kept what we didn't use to take home and use on another meal. They also have wonderful sweet tea. The ladies working the drive-through were very friendly and helpful since we had never been there before. I can't wait to pass through again just to stop by this place. This is a BBQ joint to the max. No frills just good food! We stayed in a nearby hotel and walked to the restaurant. It's loud, crowded, and small BUT if you go by on a Thursday or Friday night order the steak you will not be disappointed! The best! Flavorful and tender, cooked just right! Be aware of the close times: fully closed Sunday and Monday and only open 11-2 Saturday. We made it in the doors @around 1:45 on a Saturday and luckily they were still serving to go orders. The people were really friendly even though we were one of the last orders of the day, they were nice and took their time with us :) The beef ribs my husband and father-in-law ordered were amazing! Their sauce is really dynamic, sweet and savory without the vinegar taste left in your mouth. I had the pulled pork sandwich but the full meal probably would have been a better buy for the $. Hubs got the beans and coleslaw with his ribs, I think they were only stingy with the slaw because they were running out, but the little he got was very good for slaw. I think they could double if not triple profits if they were open Sunday if only afternoon to give El Dorado's massive church crowd another option! read more

Great Barbecue the brisket is as good as you will get anywhere in America. It is extremely tender and smoked perfectly. I met Mr. Howell as they were about to open and I can tell he takes pride in his meats and the flavor proves my instincts to be correct. The man has experience and cooks with with a passion. I love a family operated business especially when they take pride in their work. I will not go anywhere else when I'm in town for barbecue. Mr. Howell my hats off to you on a job well done. Went for lunch and it was enjoyable. Had a burger and fries and it was good. Had a side tamale that was real good. Very friendly staff. The meat in the burger nothing special. Very fresh bun, lettuce and tomato which makes the burger in my opinion. Want to go back and try the Q. read more

My husband and I love to order take out here. The food is great. We had tried pretty much everything. I love there rib-tips dinners and he likes the 3 meat combinations with ribs, brisket, smoke sausage or chicken. I had a chop beef and pork sandwich before and they're good also. Great BBQ brisket ribs and pulled pork were moist and tender with just the right amount of smoke. I was really impressed with the brisket, most places that I have been to usually serve beef jerky and call it brisket. I give a 4 out of 5 because the sides ( potato salad and coleslaw ) were average and they could have been friendlier. Personally I love the hole in the wall atmosphere, I love finding gems like this, nothing fancy but great food for a reasonable price. I had the ribs and beans potato salad, no the worst I've had. The employees seemed addled and it was not busy. waited for food for a long time because someone wasn't doing their job. I'm wondering if anyone (restaurant) in this town care about the customer? Where I come from everything is spotless and I would never have to pay if they mess up. Visited Howell's Bbq on Saturday around noon it was just OK I was expecting more than I received. The sides we're hot the meat cold I had both the baby backs and chopped beef my daughter had baby backs as well. The meat really had no smoke flavor to it the sauces wasn't that bad but they missed that kick . All in all 2's. Staff was nice. read more

Howells bbq is quite a gem. I've never ordered anything that disappointed. My husband is their biggest fan for the banana pudding.
