It's cool because it has a marquis that lights up, and it's surprisingly large (600 seats!), and the bar at the back has comfy stools and even an area with tables where you can sit with friends and watch a movie while having adult beverages. It's dark inside and probably not to every moviegoer's taste, and I haven't tried the popcorn, but I love supporting this local neighborhood business, especially when they're showing something other than comic book and action movies.

That said, my son enjoyed it and I did too. His favorite part was visiting the lovely sheep grazing outside. The inside of the house was well decorated and there was a craft outside in the small guest house on the property. We were there early so parking was pretty easy. Volunteers were friendly, although the ticketing/check in process was a little confusing. The door was open, but the guy working seemed unclear on whether they were ready for us to come in or not, and directed us to the craft area before we paid and got our stamps. One day I'll come back when it's less hectic to explore and learn more about this interesting piece of Akron history.

But on Mother's Day we got to see a lot of the rooms we never saw. And got to ask more questions and take our time a bit more. All around good experience. You want to see as many of the rooms as possible. Pro tip. If you are doing a house and garden tour leave the house thru the front door. This way you don't have to back track the gardens. Out the front door take a right to head along the back of the house and the gardens. Don't miss the greenhouse. The Japanese garden and the really all the gardens are beautiful. It's a nice walk. You can definitely get your steps in. It's a nice afternoon. We spent about 2.5 hours. Could have spent longer. But we were hungry. This was a good experience overall and fun afternoon.

Several years ago I found out that they have special tours at Christmas time where you can tour the house and each room has a different theme and you can also tour the grounds where they have Christmas light displays. I believe the tickets this past Christmas or $28 each which goes towards keeping up the estate and grounds. I feel like that's a fair price. There is so much to see in the estate and out on the grounds and I suggest coming here during the year as well for a regular tour. The Christmas decor is so beautiful each room in the estate is typically sponsored by a local business. It's so interesting to see some of the old furniture, dishes, light fixtures, truly whatever you can think of it's all so beautiful. They even have a greenhouse on the property where you can go to purchase plants, especially poinsettias for the Christmas season. They have a little concession stand where they sell things like hot chocolate, coffee, wine and beer, cookies, chili, soft pretzels, etc. Santa even stops by during certain hours where you can visit him. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to visit during the Christmas season and as a child I loved coming here during the year.

I've come here a few times on gravesite location searches for a local genealogy agency, and I was pleased to know that there was a gravesite locator at the main office, which prints off a map for the grave of the person you search, with a site number, and section number. This is especially handy for those looking for members of their family tree, and a nice added touch.

Born a slave in New York, she escaped to freedom in 1826. She gave the speech "Ain't I A Woman?" in 1851 which became widely known during the Civil War. She went on to recruit black troops to fight for the Union Army and continued to fight for women's rights and civil rights until her death. That famous speech was given at the Ohio Women's Right's Convention here in Akron and to honor that, the United Way of Summit County and Akron has named this space for her in 2023, placed a statue and quotes. As a tribute to the people who helped make it what it is, this statue was unveiled in 2021 by mayor and others. It was sculpted by Zanesville artist Alan Cottrill and modeled after the 1920s tire worker on the cover of "Wheels of Fortune," a book by former Beacon Journal writers David Giffels and Steve Love. It stands at a roundabout at the intersection of Mill Street and Main Street. The plaque reads, "This commemorative statue pays tribute to the lives of Akron rubber workers and their families, and the essential part they played in establishing our city's identity as the Rubber Capital of the World." I didn't spot it at the time, but the main base is in the shape of Summit County and the taller portion is in the shape of the Akron city limits. While I am usually looking for a challenge every so often I just want to have a nice easy walk and…read moreenjoy the scenery; the Beaver Marsh in Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a great place for this type of day. Located about half way through the park, across from Howe Meadow there are parking lots at either end of the marsh. Parking at the South lot it is a short walk to the Towpath Trail which allows you to traverse the marsh on the boardwalk. The boardwalk has several projections with informative signs and benches. The marsh is fascinating, created when the park took over a large auto junkyard, cleaned it up and reintroduce beavers to the area. The marsh is wide and long with plenty to see and hear. During the non-winter seasons there are plenty of birds around. You can usually find Blue Herons, ducks, red winged blackbirds and others. In the water you can see fish, turtles and frogs and if you are lucky possibly see a beaver or otter. Recently I did spot a nice snake on a log next to the boardwalk. At the North end of the boardwalk you can see where the beaver dam is blocking the flow in the abandoned canal which actually creates the marsh. Just south of the marsh on the trail is an abandoned lock that gives you an idea of how the lock system and canal worked. Overall the Beaver Marsh is a great place to hang out observe nature at some of its most scenic. If you want a more ambitious walk the Towpath Trail offers endless possibilities and the Beaver Marsh is a great place to start or just stop in a longer walk or ride.

Brandywine Falls located in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of my favorite places to hike…read more The Brandywine Falls area is easy to access, the main parking lot is located on Brandywine Road and is next to the falls themselves. There is a bathroom and water fountain here, so it is a nice stop on the bike and hike trail which passes by the falls. The falls is the tallest, one of the largest and most visited falls in Ohio, it is also one of the highlights of the National Park. The park has created a boardwalk that allows you to go into the gorge and get some great views of the falls. The boardwalk does have some steep stairs and you should be careful on your way down and back up. The falls is very picturesque and will give you different looks depending on the amount of water in the stream, the time of the year and the time of day. While the falls are great I really enjoy the hikes that are available in connection with the falls. The hikes take you down the gorge and there is a bridge that allows you to cross the stream and come back up the other side. The South side hike is a bit away from the stream and is mainly through the woods on hard dirt trails; there is a bit of ups and downs including some stairs and stream crossings on bridges. The North side trail is along the river and gorge and is steeper and can be a bit of a scramble. The total loop is about 1 1/2 miles with a nice bit of vertical for its length. You can also do longer hikes to the Stanford House or the Boston Mills visitor center. One of the things I enjoy is seeing the falls and the gorge in different seasons. During the summer the lot is usually full during most of the day, the gorge offers a rather cool and shady area when the day is hot. Fall has the changing leaves and cooler temperatures. Winter creates a whole different look. Finally, spring gives you the rushing stream and the transition from winter to summer. If you haven't been to Brandywine Falls you need to plan a visit, if you haven't been there recently it is well worth a return visit.

This waterfall is impressive for being in Ohio and it attracts many people to it. If you are able to do stairs, I recommend checking it out. It's a short walk from the parking lot. The entrance is easily seen from the parking lot. The ramp/stairs (wood) can be slippery due to the weather, so be careful. The rock formation hangs slightly over as well. You are also able to hike the border too. It's a very nice area. I definitely recommend checking it out just be mindful and keep it clean. Respect the area.
