Chicken suqaar with spicy rice & yogurt and green chili sauces
    Nadira Y.

My family and I tried Hoyo's for the first time. I found the chicken suqaar really yummy. Be careful of getting it with the spicy rice and green chili sauce, as it packs a very spicy kick (goes to your throat). It was really yummy though regardless. We also got the chicken and beef sambusas. It's nice that they fry these to order. We liked the beef one more, but they were inconsistent with the frying. Some were too fried. The sambusas are quite large, but I could have done without the overly onion addition to the meat. The sambusas should also come with a cilantro or some kind of dipping sauce. I got the watermelon guava drink mixed with the mango. I was told the best drink is actually mixing all their flavors: watermelon guava, mango, and ginger pineapple. The drink was good, not overly sweet and refreshing. Will go back for the combo rice bowls.

Tried the mango chicken at Hoyo's. The flavor was a little bland and I did not taste mango as much as chili powder. The portion was generous, service fast and friendly. I would still like to try another dish from Hoyo's but would not recommend this one. The Bridge Park location is fun, casual and family friendly.

Vegetarian Bowl with all the veggies and vegan rice

I had been to Hoyo's a number of times before going veg, both at the Bridge Park and North Market locations. They offer build your own bowls with African inspired options. I had read that their vegetarian bowl was something special, and it is. The bowl is a medley of African stews, veggies, and spiced rice. The portion size is plentiful, this is truly a meal. It can come with one of three sauces ranging from flavorful to downright spicy. The Bridge Park outpost of Hoyo's used to be focused on juice and hand pies (think African empanada), but they now offer their full menu. As veg options go, the bowl at Hoyo's is an excellent option.

Safari Spicy Rice Bowl with Safari Chicken

Stopped in on a Wednesday night about 30 minutes before they closed. There was no line and the man working was super nice and answered all my questions since this was my first time visiting. I ended up getting a bowl with spicy rice, safari chicken, lots of toppings, and the garlic yogurt sauce. While I was waiting they even offered me a free chai! The bowl only took about 5 minutes and I took it to go. The flavors were amazing and everything tasted so fresh even though they were close to closing. The bowl with tip was $17 which is definitely on the pricier end, but it was so good and I was able to eat the leftovers for lunch the next day so it was worth it in my opinion. Highly recommend and I will be back!

    Sooo dry mango chicken.

Do not get the mango chicken! Even though it is the most expensive thing on the menu it is bone dry inside and hard. Like it was made a week ago and sat outside the fridge. When I said "this is not edible. It's too dry" I was told that is how mango chicken is. What a waste of an $18 lunch! Had to eat around the chicken. So gross. When they saw me taking pictures of it they brought me over a different chicken which was really good. The vegetables were fresh. They redeemed themselves but don't get the mango chicken

Always a struggle to decide what to pick in the food hall/market cause everything looks good. Picked to try out Hoyo's Kitchen when I'm in North Market Bridge Park. It is actually my first time trying some Somali food. I really like the straightforward menu with the start up to build a bowl, wrap or salad. Then protein and veggies to follow. I got the Mango Chicken rice bowl and love it. The chicken is tender and the sauce is slightly sweet and have some subtle fruitiness. You can get it with the spicy level of your choice. I like it mild and just a kick to it. Also, have to highlight their Watermelon and Guava drink. Super refreshing and prefect for the hot days.

    Spicy rice and safari chicken
    Janice J.

Yummy! I enjoyed a bowl with spicy rice, safari chicken and various vegetables. It's a zesty type of spicy. Not spicy initially but it grows. Not sure but tasted like a combination of turmeric, cloves and coriander etc. If you are daring there's even spicier choices. Will definitely come back.

First time trying Somali food and it was delicious! Got the Spicy rice, lentils, chickpeas, cabbage, and spinach. I only wanted the hot veggie bowl. There are options for cold veggies. I also added the green chili sauce. Beef sambusa rounded out the meal. The rice definitely had some kick to it..... usually when listed spicy, it's not noticeable to me. Anyway service and food were great. Definitely coming back!

Mango Chicken ( out of ) with 1/2 spicy, 1/2 regular rice, lentils + cabbage as hot toppings, cucumber + green sauce

I already love their chai and bottled green sauce, but hadn't actually eaten here until today. The mango chicken was so good, especially with some sabayad to mop up the lentils. I got half regular/half spicy rice but will definitely be back to try the injera + goat. Super friendly staff and portions are hefty!

Super good! You can create your own bowl with your choice of injera bread, salad, or rice as a base. The service was fast and the food was excellent. Great vegetarian options as well

We got an order to go to break our fast with. This time we got the lamb shank meal, Afra chicken,…read moremango lemonade, and chicken sambusa. Everything was packed really nicely and the portions are big. The lamb shank was fall off the bone and really well spiced. Everything we got was actually really nice in flavors. I got jollof rice with the meat and it was spicy but not overpowering. The plantains were really good and the salad was fresh. I love everything mango, so the mango lemonade was refreshing. My son enjoyed the chicken sambusa and my husband enjoyed the Afra chicken meal. I gave my son ketchup as a dip for the sambusa because although their sauces are very good, they are much too spicy for him. The Afra spicy sauce was good and my husband said it elevated his chicken meal. They also included crepes with our meal. I was not aware that they come with the meal or if they just gave us these as an extra. The crepes were huge though and delicious. They had the perfect amount of sweetness to them. We were late in picking up our meal, so appreciated the staff for holding it for us. The food was fairly warm even after the delay. We will definitely be back.

So happy to return to this wonderfully delicious spot in my old "stomping ground" on Morse Rd…read more First checked them out over in Easton, and I've been wanting to return ever since!! So many tempting choices offered, it's tough to decide. The minute you walk in the door, the smell of all the wonderful, tempting options will let you know you're getting the "real deal." You can create your own bowl, choosing the protein (chicken, goat, fish...) and the toppings and sauces to your taste. Speaking of taste, the woman at the counter very helpfully gave me a taste sample of several different options. Both the regular and spicy chicken were super flavorful, and I've tried Somali goat meat before (very flavorful!) but trying to keep it light(er) since I had a plane to catch in a few hours, I got a veg. bowl, with a sampling of both types of rice and (woops!!) and spaghetti add on (carb-o-licious!!). Should have added on the salad, that might have made a bit more sense! Anywhooooooo, my bowl was DELICIOUUS, as was the veg. sambus I added on, and super reasonably priced for the quantity (and deliciousness!!) of food I was served. Come HUNGRY, leave VERY happy and FULL!! Beautiful, cozy dining room, great service, and a WONDERFUL way to support our pan-African neighbors!! Mmmmmmmmmmm!!

My very first meal on moving to Ohio!…read more On my way from the airport to the hotel, I was hankering for some good food. Good ol' Yelp popped up Foodateria on my route, and I am so glad it did. The restaurant had a warm ambiance with earthy tones as you walk in. Nothing to write home about with standard tables and chair but one is here for the fare! The gentleman who runs the restaurant kindly suggested the Yetty's Egusi. In my opinion it was the perfect surf and turf (or should I say surf and fluff?) dish. This was a delicious stew with both fish and chicken in it. The stew of spinach (or was that kale?) and melon seeds in palm oil initially left me a little confused wondering if it was ricotta cheese, scrambled eggs, or fish roe. The Chicken drumstick and the fish morsel were deep fried separately then added to the stew later before serving. The chicken was really good with a teeny crust from the frying, and moist and juicy inside, but I have got to hand it to the fish. It was moist, flaky, flavourful, and reminded me of all the river fish I grew up eating. Upon mentioning to the gentleman that I was intrigued by the Fufu, he let me order it as a side (it's not usually served with the Egusi). It was super soft, starchy, with no need to masticate. Had you come here with your gummy teeth, having left your dentures at home, you would have absolutely no problems downing this dish. Had on its own it reminds one of a smooth and creamy mashed potatoes. I enjoyed pinching out tiny morsels of it, dunk it in the sauce, and just let is slide down my chute. PS: I read that it is considered ill-mannered to chew the fufu. One usually swallows the morsel without any chewing. And I can see why. Just crush it up with your tongue against the roof of your mouth to extract its mild flavour and enjoy the creamy texture, and off it goes! It's been a while, and I really need to go back again!
