TWO DAY raft tour review (will be long, so I apologize in advance!). I noticed there weren't a lot of reviews on overnight (two day) rafting trip, so I wanted to show some pictures and give a good overview. My dad and I went on this trip We booked this trip just a few months ago, after finding this is the only rafting company that has just a two-day paddle rafting tour. All others were 4, 8, or more days. We found out that the Hualapai tribe has the only road that leads down to the bottom of the canyon that isn't at the very start of the canyon, or end of the canyon (where you end your ride). So you can essentially "jump" on the river mid-canyon and you raft 53 miles to the end of the canyon, where you exit. There is a one day tour done by this company that is NOT paddling, but just riding in a motorized boat. They go the whole 53 miles in one day. They start and end at the same place we did, we just stop halfway (around 32 miles) to sleep for the night. We obviously go slower because we have to paddle the first 13 miles. You will have rapids and paddle for the first 13 miles of the trip. Once you complete those 13 miles (about 7-8 rapids), you will tether up to a motorized boat and be towed the other 20 miles to camp (with no rapids). Trust me -- it's hot and exhausting, so you will be ready to be towed! Day two is being towed all day. No more paddling, no more rapids. I highly suggest getting a room the night before the trip at the lodge (on the website). But BEWARE the lodge is literally right beside a very active train track. So it's loud throughout the night with train horns. Do what you will with that. Ear plugs? Ambien? Whatever suits you. But it's definitely the best place to stay the night before. They have a nice little restaurant in the lodge to grab dinner. I really liked the stew and fry bread, but they have a nice selection of other items. The ride down to the river is only about an hour, and pretty fun. You go on a bus (no air conditioning, but windows open and it's early in the day, so it's not hot at all), and the drivers will inform you about things you see and the history of the Hualapai tribe who owns the land. Once you get to the river, they will assign you a boat and captain, and you will get your life jacket and helmet on (both required). You put your things in a big red dry bag about 3 foot tall. I would say you have one dry bag for every two ppl. You will hit a rapid right when you take off, which is pretty fun! Better learn how to row as a group quick. Ha! Our captains were Cody and Scott, both who were excellent at guiding our groups through the rapids. There is a supply boat that will follow with your dry bags, tables for dinner, food supplies, etc Not even one person fell off either of our boats on our trip . We had lots of big rapids, but great captains who guided us through safely! Remember there are only 7-8 total rapids, and they all happen in the first 13 miles. So enjoy the "crazy adventure" at the beginning, because you won't get more rapids the rest of the day or next day! It is HOT, so make sure to have your water bottle and ample sunscreen. And a hat to block the sun. We stopped at a beach (not a camping park, just a Sandy beach along the River) for the night. There is no electricity, no running water, and no porta potties. They do setup a "bathroom" on the beach that is a can with a toilet seat lid on it. Not luxurious, but it's setup in a private area, and gets the job done! You pick your campsite, and they provide the sleeping bags, pad for the bags to lay on, and tent (if you want it). It was BEAUTIFUL. And I am not an "outdoor" sleeper. But the stars and the sound of the river, and the breeze. It was wonderful! Make sure to stay up until about 10pm to see a SKY full of stars! They make an amazing dinner for you of steak, mashed potato and salad. Even more delicious after a tiring day!! Sodas are also available! The next morning, they will have eggs, bacon, coffee (bring your own cup), cereal, fruit --- a fantastic breakfast. You get towed about 4.5-5 hours that day (stopping for lunch), and then stop at the end of the canyon at the first exit road there is (53 miles later!). It's a lengthy ride back (2.5 hours), and you maybe in an air conditioned van, or on the bus. We got the vans today, so were pretty comfy. We booked another night at the lodge, and ate at the restaurant again, and had the stew!! Overall it was an amazing experience. Truly one you can't get anywhere else. Because the tribe owns this part of the river and the ONLY access road, it is the most unique way to see the bottom of the canyon. This was a truly amazing, bucket-list experience. Our son just graduated as a geologist and we took a week long vacation with the first half dedicated to touring various natural wonders. We were there Friday, 7/8/22. This was one of our favorites (a close second to the beauty of Carlsbad Caverns!). Victor was our "skipper" and he and the photographer were great people to have spent the day with. It was my husband, my son, myself, and a family of four (young-adult children) from the UK. We stayed the night at the Hualapai Lodge where we spent two pleasant evenings. The restaurant was basically cafeteria food, and no other real options nearby. But it was decent enough. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable and the staff was friendly. We were picked up that morning in the bus. It was a retired school bus with the windows down and the air temp was comfortable enough. The bus driver made sure to offer us water the entire ride which took about an hour and a half, with one or two stops for pics along the way (as requested by one of the other travelers). There were 35 of us that day. There are porta potties at the river before you take off. They had one very large drybag available to stash your things in, and we had already brought our own, so they stashed that for us, too. They had plenty of water and soda available in their cooler if you needed it. We started our very hot day riverside and before we hit our first rapids were given a quick safety lesson about what to do if we fell within or outside of the boat. At one point my husband slipped inside the boat after the most "severe" rapid and sat as told, until we were cleared. Viktor kept us safe and worked the rapids well. While still traversing the rapids, we stopped at the falls. I was surprised that the stop was so soon during the trip, but that's how the geography worked out. It was beautiful and an easy climb/hike up to the falls. The fresh water was cool and refreshing and we got to spend a good amount of time exploring the beauty of the area. After that stop we stopped 3 or 4 more times along the river. Once for lunch (which was simple but perfectly satisfying). We all had a deli meat sandwich with lettuce and tomato and cheese, a packet of mayo and mustard, and a bag of chips to choose from as well as a bag of carrots and water or soda to choose from. After that, we stopped another time to cool down in the water as the air gets super hot down there once the rapids aren't actively splashing you. (There is almost always spray coming at the front of the boat, so rotate there if you need to cool down.) They gave us more snacks to choose from- nuts/cookies/chips/etc. Another time we stopped for another cool down and one of the other riders in our boat asked if we could float down the river in our life vests for a while. Viktor obliged the request and we were allowed to float down the river for about half an hour until Viktor powered back up and came and scooped us out of the water- that was such an amazing experience! We stopped at least once more to cool down, it was about once an hour. The water is very cold- no more than 60 degrees (it gets warmer the further down the river you go). At one point we saw wild ram along the cliffside and Viktor made sure to stop and point them out to us so we could watch them hop un and down the cliffs. I saw the repeated warnings about the trip and was concerned that we'd not have a good experience, but we'd all do it again in a heartbeat!! Look, this is not a ride at an amusement park. This is mother nature. And she can be a real b!tch. These guys are working with decent equipment but are working on real rapids on a real river in real conditions. We had amazing skippers, more than enough food and water, and plenty of chances to stop to cool down. We did get some good water shoes with treads, a long sleeve UV shirt, and hats and glasses with straps because without them we most certainly would have lost them on the rapids. Also- a waterproof pouch for your phone is a good idea. We did bring snacks and water "just in case", but they were not needed. We stopped at the end of our day ("docked" about 5pm) at the Family Dollar where we grabbed some ice cream and snacks- but they still had plenty of powerade etc available for us if we needed/wanted it. There were some weak bladders on the bus, so we also had to stop at a gas station which delayed our 2.5 hour bus ride back home. The bus windows were up and the air was on, but it wasn't exactly cold air we had. That being said, it wasn't uncomfortable either. There is a QR code provided to access the professional photos that were taken on the trip. This really was an amazing adventure and we are so grateful that the Hualapai share the beauty of their canyon with us! read more

ONE DAY TRIP: PLEASE READ FOR HONEST REVIEW I am not trying to hurt the company with a negative review. I am trying to help them get better and help other people understand what the trip is and what they need to be prepared for. Preface: Our trip was not normal. Through a series of misfortunes, our trip lasted 16+ hours and we arrived after 11:00 pm to the lodge. First: we loved the rapids and the hike to the waterfall. It was great fun and we enjoyed that part of the trip. It is what we went for. Next: I was a river guide on the Snake and Hudson Rivers 30 years ago. I run class IV and V rivers. I know a little about guiding and running a river rafting business. What I say, I say from a place of knowledge. Issue #1: We arrived at 7:00 am and didn't leave until 8:15. We arrived after a dusty dirt road trip to the put in at about 9:00 am. The boats were not ready. We got life vests and stood around in the baking hot sun for more than an hour. They should have had the boats ready BEFORE we got there. Participant tip: No matter how hardy you think you are. YOU HAVE TO BRING THE RIGHT SUN GEAR! Long sleeve spf 50+ shirts, broad jungle style hats, sunglasses with adjustable bands, and more sunscreen that you think you will need are a REQUIREMENT. Without them you will BAKE and it will be uncomfortable. AND if you have any issues like we did, you could put yourself in danger without them. Issue #2: after the first rapid, the boat behind us broke down and we spent 15-20 minutes buddy boating with them as they tried to fix it. We went down other rapids, and it broke down again. Again, we waited. This was going to be the theme of the rest of our trip adding hours to the long, hot, uncomfortable trip. After pulling over and taking the hike up to the waterfall we watched as they pulled the engine off a boat and put it on another one. Then added the riders of that boat to other boats. They were going to leave the boat and come back for it. Then we realized that wasn't even the boat behind us that was breaking down. It was another boat having issues. This would be a theme going forward Participant Tip: YOU NEED THE RIGHT FOOTWEAR!!! You are going to hike and climb to the waterfall. You are going to use ropes and rope ladders. You need water HIKERS no flip flops. No matter how tough you think you are, flip flops are a bad idea. You slow people down, hurt your feet and in our case, slow everyone down when you get hurt! Issue #2: Our guide was great at driving the boat. He hit all the right parts of the rapids. However, he didn't communicate at all. Of the three times we stopped to tell us about things. You couldn't hear him at all. He didn't entertain us, and he didn't add any enjoyment to the trip. About the boats: The boats are built to get you wet. The "tray" of the boat has a vertical bulkhead that pushes the water up over you. It is fun. However, it makes the boat slow. Really, really slow. Issue #3: YOU ARE GOING TO SIT ON HARD, HOT, UNCOMFORTABLE METAL SEATS FOR HOURS. Even if you don't have problems you will sit for hours. You will not be comfortable. The boats are LOUD! Issue #4: the boat kept breaking down/ over heating/ not working. We limped down the river. Very, very, slowly. There was no other option. When you are done with the rapids, you are supposed to motor for several hours and some pull out of the river at the helicopter pad and fly out. The rest are going to keep going on the hot hard seats for more hours before you pull out. The literature says you will be back at the lodge between 5:30 and 7:30 pm after a 2.5 hr bus ride. Issue #5: We did the math at the last "pit stop." We had been on the river for hours and we had hours to go. We were going to miss the 7:30 pm arrival time by hours. Participant tip: You must pee in the river. In front of everyone else peeing in the river. It is just the way it is. You will drink a ton of water since your body needs/ demands it. You will have to pee. Issue #5: Due to breakdowns, it took three hours to pull out after the helo pads. There were no "pit stops." People in our group were so uncomfortable from trying to hold it, the were crying. It was painful and hard. There was no place to stop. We pulled out of the river at a little after 7 pm. We didn't arrive at the lodge until 11:00 pm. We baked in the sun for many more hours than a regular trip. The seats were hard, hot and uncomfortable. We would never do it again. Tips for the company: 1. Get pads for the seats. 2. Redesign the boats or use different boats after the rapids to get people down the river in 2 hours not 4, 5, or 6 hours. You have them at the helo pad. We saw them. Use them 3. Train your guides better. 4. Have contingent plans for when things go wrong. 5. Add more "pit stops" 6. Have the boats ready when people get to the river, don't have us standing around for more than an hour in the sun waiting. read more

Hard working young local men made our trip an absolute thrill ride. From the long bumpy morning scenic bus ride to the thrilling rapids and beautiful waterfall! Delicious lunch and plenty of water, this trip was spectacular. Most of the rapids take place before lunch . If you want the full thrill sit at front ! You are guaranteed to be thrown up in the air and experience water boarding at same time ! Because of atrocious water mismanagement of nearby states like California and Nevada, the river water level is very low and after lunch you float aimlessly down shallow river for 4 hours . After reading several negative reviews here, I was somewhat apprehensive about the trip, but I'm writing one so people know that this is a highly professional company! We had an excellent, memorable time. Everything was on time (meet at 7, leave at 8, get back between 6 and 7 pm), all staff were very friendly and skilled, and the Canyon was beautiful. I should note that this isn't rafting where you're paddling, but rather you're on a motorized raft in order to cover so much ground. This actually is pretty ideal if your goals are to go through awesome rapids and get to soak in the beauty of the canyon. I recommend checking out the packing list on the website, which was really helpful. This was worth the price and a great experience I'll recommend to others. read more

This is an all-day excursion, starting with check-in early in the morning. Waivers signed and we're off on a bus down a scenic dirt road. The road crosses Diamond Creek literally several times and then we're at the launch point. Last chance to use the outhouses. Stow your extra change of clothes in the drybags they provide. Meanwhile, strip down to what you are minimally able to withstand: surfing tights, quick-drying shirts, rain pants, and cover with a lightweight hooded windbreaker. Wide brim hat with chin strap highly recommended. Make sure to strap your sunglasses and add a yoga headband over your forehead to keep your hair out of your eyes. YOU WILL GET WET because the entire purpose of motoring down the rapids is for maximum bounce and splash. Now for the fun. You're sitting on metal rails that are installed over the pontoons. There are metal handlebars underneath the rails that you need to HOLD TIGHT. Otherwise, you're bounced up and down and you will get bruises on your tushie and hit your tail bone, hip bone, socket HARD. [Warning: people with osteoporosis might want to sit on the wooden boards in the center where there's less bounce]. The bouncing and splashing is the fun part, however the captain will ask if anyone on the boat is fearful, in which case, he will steer it through the most gentle path. Everyone on our boat was fearless, so we got the biggest splashes--including a wall of water that drenched the entire boat. We went down into a trough, couldn't see anything but water, popped up and out, were thrown out of our seats [thank God for the hand rails], and popped down onto our behinds [OUCH!] while a deluge of water flooded over our heads. My sister swallowed water, and water went up my nose. When I sat in the front, I faced the water head on, [I have glasses]. I used a pair of straps for my glasses, added a yoga headband to keep the straps flat against my head, and a strapped wide-brim hat. My brother-in-law almost lost his hat and glasses, but luckily the hat was floating inside the boat. One other thing, the bottom of the boat will flood and drain, not to worry. Wear water shoes with treads or light-weight running shoes. I'll explain why. Do not go with flip-flops. You'll lose them [float away], and not be able to participate in the hike, including rope climb up a face of several boulders, ladders, and walking through a river into a cave to the Travertine Falls. It is absolutely gorgeous and a highlight of the trip. Several of us got drenched in the waterfall too. We were already wet anyway. Lunch was at a north side beach [get to say you crossed the Colorado River]. By then we were all shivering in the wicked wind. There were some spindly bushes to hang wet clothes on. The guides handed out ham and cheese subs with chips and carrots, and all was devoured with chattering teeth. Then it was bathroom time. No way were we going to dip into the river, so everyone went off into the bushes by the beach, some east, some to the west. Then it was on board again and a few more epic rapids. After that, our captain pointed out landmarks that had meaning for them. There was one named after Spencer, a man who helped their nation establish. There was something about spirit animals, bear? Wolf? that were guardians for their nation. He pointed out the oldest rock, gneiss, and a fault line and told stories of early explorers on the river. Our tour had a photographer around. It was her first day, and she was in a separate boat with several crew members. It turns out they are the emergency boat. We were motoring down the river when suddenly, there was a rattle and the motor stopped. Fortunately, we weren't the last boat. Another boat spotted us and then the photographer's boat came alongside. The captain and the crew of the other boats quickly lashed us together so we weren't floating aimlessly toward the rock walls. They tried to fix the engine but no dice. So they asked some folks to move to the other boat. Unfortunately, my sister moved too fast, and no crew member was standing near her to give her a hand. She slipped and fell, landing hard on one leg and her knee was in pain. I think they didn't expect it, but in the future it's better to position the crew members when transferring passengers, one on the side they're leaving and one on the side they're going down. Fortunately, after icing it, she was able to limp off the boat. The trip down river is long and very scenic and we went as fast as the motor could handle. We were trying to make up time so as not to delay the rest of the boats who'd arrived at Pearce Ferry Boat Launch before us. The bus driver is very entertaining and he told us all about how Lake Mead used to be higher up and that we were driving on the bottom of the lake. We stopped at a gas station for snacks, and then it was a comfortable air-conditioned ride back to Peach Springs. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious, ample portions, low prices & fry bread! My one day whitewater rafting trip down the Grand Canyon ($423) included a bus ride from Peach Springs, AZ to the canyon, a morning of rapids rated 2 through 7, a hike and climb to a waterfall, a tasty lunch (sub with chips, cookies, and beverage), an afternoon of motorized rafting down the Grand Canyon with a beach stop, a helicopter ride to the rim, a stop at the west rim and skywalk visitor center (the skywalk was an additional charge), and a bus ride back to Peach Springs. We got completely soaked by the walls of 52 degree (year round) water that crashed upon our raft. Hold on tight through the rapids. It was quite an adventure, with amazing scenery for the entire day. Every employee I encountered was friendly and helpful. This was a well run operation, except there was a 30 min wait for the bus at the helicopter terminal. Excellent! read more

My husband and I did the one day trip in October 2021, which is the end of their season. This is the only outfit that offers a one day trip. For that reason, I recommend it and would give it 2.5 stars. You cover 54 miles on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon on a motorized pontoon, from Diamond Creek to Pierce Ferry. That is pretty special. You can choose, and I would recommend, another commercial outfit for longer trips. To do this in a day and not have to camp or use a groover is worth the potential issues. It would take five days to do this distance in a traditional raft. When husband does private trips with 15+ others, they cover 280 miles in 23 days in self powered rafts from Lee's Ferry to Pierce Ferry. They have gourmet cuisine. (you have to apply for these permits, and they are hard to get) This one day trip is a fantastic way to see the Grand Canyon from the bottom without hiking, and get in some great whitewater. That being said, it is not a luxury trip. As others have reported, motor issues seem to be common. Equipment maintenance appears lacking. We broke the propeller soon after taking off, so free wheeled the rapids it seems. Fixed that, but for some reason got towed by another boat the rest of the way; then it hit a rock and we pulled over for repair. Huz thinks we were towed because we only had a 30hp motor. The issue with being towed is you get constant spray and are cold and wet the entire time. If one boat has issues, all boats are "late" due to being on the same bus back. We got out and hiked to Travertine Falls. There are very mossy, slippery rocks here while getting out, and the wet rocks along the way are slippery. One guy slipped and fell on his tailbone. You will be climbing makeshift rope ladders and doing a little rope climbing. You will be sitting on the sides of the boat which are metal. If you want the whitewater action sit in the front. If you want a straight ahead view, grab the center of the boat facing the back. Your neck will thank you. Lunch was meh. A roll with mystery meat and American cheese and a leaf of lettuce with no condiments, some carrots and chips. There are porta potties at take off and take out. Get super hydrated the day before so you don't have to drink tons. I skipped my morning coffee, drank water with breakfast at the lodge and about a half bottle of water on the river. I made it fine. Some others were in agony. They may have snuck off somewhere but you don't really have privacy. The bus was comfortable and the driver affable. He would stop for photo ops (out of state tourists; 8 people per boat, we enjoyed two couples from Upstate NY and one from FL). Expect two hours there, use porta potty, and then five hours plus on the river. We got back to the lodge, where you leave your car, at 7:30. The bus ride back was 2.5 hours, stopping in Kingman for restroom and whatever snacks/drinks you wanted to buy. One thing I noticed was that most of the "passengers" likely did not know it is customary to tip your guide and the bus driver. The ones that go the extra mile and entertain and accommodate you are working to that end. Would I do this again? Right now I say no, but that is what I said about childbirth. Do I recommend it? Yes, knowing what you are getting into and that their may be delays. The Hualapai Lodge is quite nice, clean and the restaurant adequate. We drove home to Phoenix that night and were home by midnight (approx 3.5 hours). What a great almost 36 hours! And I got a taste of what huz sees on his 23 day trips. We loved our day with Hualapai River Runners. We went the first week in October, and the weather was still pretty pleasant, definitely not too hot like the summertime. Starting in the morning at 8 a.m. we woke to temps in the 30's and were a little worried, but after the hr.+ long trip to the launch site, it had warmed up quite a bit. There was still a slight breeze, and then of course the water was cold, so just make sure to bring proper clothing and gear. They will make sure usually, to tell you to bring a change of clothes, since you'll for sure get soaked, but don't forget that you also need a windbreaker/rain jacket and water shoes. We had a really fun day. We appreciated a short hike to the falls, lunch provided, and a few short rest stops on the 36 mile trip. Our guide was Kevin, and he was very approachable and accommodating. It was nice that he was easy going and informative. He provided adequate safety instruction and check in measures as well. Guides really set the vibe on these kinds of outings, so thanks to Kevin for making it worth our time and money. He was nice to talk to and seemed as if he was glad to engage in conversation. An fantastic trip! The first day we were worried it would be too cold but even though the water is in the 40's we warmed up quickly in the early October sun. We had a orientation and set out on the water. With the help of our guides (Taylor, Leonard and Ben with Jeremiah driving the supply boat) we navigated rapids without a hitch, and cruised areas while we chatted and learned. We had several stops to eat, pee, and explore. We then camped on a beach where the guides cooked us up top notch steak dinners with strawberry shortcake for dessert. The vegetarian option appeared pretty thoughtful and not the common afterthought that frequently happens when one checks the "other" box. We all spent the evening chatting and getting to know each other. We awoke to eggs, bacon, sausage and potatoes for breakfast before packing up and motoring down the river on the second day. It was great. We joked, learned, adventured and relaxed. I would highly recommend it and would even consider doing it a second time. Whitewater rafting in The Grand Canyon was a bucket list trip for me. I thought the only way to do it was to spend thousands of dollars, book a year in advance and go for several days. Nope! This one day trip was the perfect way to experience the canyon and surrounding desert. I'll admit I got scared reading all the negative reviews, especially since a month beforehand I still hadn't received any booking confirmation or instructions, so I called. They were very forthcoming about having been poorly managed in 2021 but had just hired a new manager. Our experience was amazing. It had rained a lot so the river was the color of a latte but didn't feel muddy splashing us. The positive side of going during monsoon season is you get to see everything blooming in the desert! Our bus driver down to the river was highly knowledgeable about the plants and geology of the area and we stopped a few times for great photo ops. On the river out guide was spectacular. His name started with an I - Isaiah or Isaac?? He grew up in the area and gave us so much history regarding Hualapai legends, geology and history of the canyon. He knew where to spot wildlife (he slowed down to look for a bighorn ewe with kids but they had taken shelter since it was going to rain) and had a really fun attitude. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide!!! It was supposed to be a paddle trip for the first half of whitewater and motorized float for the calm part but since the river was flooded it was motorized for the entire trip. I don't think it was misrepresented. They adapted to river conditions in order to get us out of the river before dark. And honestly having to hold on tightly and brace ourselves for the rapids it would've been difficult for us to also hold oars. Our guide sped into the rapids so we got the maximum soakage and he arranged seating so that the elderly people were in the safest and most comfortable spots. Front port side will get wettest. Front starboard will be the bumpiest. We were very fortunate to go on a day when temps were in the 70's-80's and it got cloudy in the afternoon. The float part of the trip while beautiful would've been really hot and uncomfortable if temps were in the 100's. BRING SUNSCREEN and reapply it often!!! We are nerds - we had polarized glasses, neck gaiters, rain gear, scuba boots, rash guards, hats and leggings along with plenty of water and snacks. We were REALLY glad we had all of this gear! The water is really cold and we would've been shivering for the first couple of hours without the rain gear, and we would've sunburned badly without the sun gear. Next time I'll bring polarized goggles treated with RainX. You'll need sturdy footwear for the hike to Travertine Falls. It's awesome!!!! I was glad we brought snacks since my "vegan" lunch was a cheese sandwich. There was an empty boat that followed us, presumably in case we had any safety issues and he had to keep the engine idling when we stopped for lunch because that boat was having mechanical issues. The smell was pretty nauseating. I am guessing that when the trips are full they put rafters in this boat and it's the one that breaks down. We didn't have any issues. Our boat was fine. Don't skip the bus ride back!! Yes it's long but it's air conditioned. I was prepared for no AC & took a last dip in the river to ride back with wet clothes so I would stay cool. I regretted that. But it has a breathtaking view of one of the largest Joshua Tree forests in the world!! There are more Joshua Trees on this bus route than there are in Joshua Tree National Forest!! Also it rained and the view of the rain in the desert was amazing. They also stop at a gas station in Kingman for snacks. It's a long day but the trip of a lifetime if you take a few simple measures to prepare yourself. And I do hope they get the administrative issues fixed because the trip itself was amazing and our river guide was awesome. I would do it again in a heartbeat and I highly recommend Hualapai River Runners to everyone looking for a Grand Canyon whitewater experience!! read more

3 boats broke down. 5-6 hours advertised. Spent almost 9 hours out on the water. Lunch was a warm sandwich and room temp sodas because they didn't put ice in the coolers. The bud departed late to the launch site, the boats didn't launch until 10:15AM and no one was providing instructions until finally our tour guide (who was incredible) was assigned to us. I'm currently trying to figure out a refund. We were later informed the safety boat driver didn't show up, so they just left without one. We didn't get back to the hotel until 10pm. Ridiculous. Again not the tour guides fault. And no recovery equipment was on the boat while they loaded it up with 14 passengers. Not safe. read more

This was an epic experience and both Rivers and Oceans and the Hualapai river runners were so helpful and informative. We couldn't have ask for a better experience! It was sooo beyond what we thought it would be! And the precautions taken during this pandemic to keep everyone safe were reassuring- temperatures taken, all forms were wiped clean and sanitized each time and social distancing was observed even had a Portable handwashing station For us before lunch. ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! If you are considering this trip, please read to the end: Our "prep" recommendations are far different from another review. "River Special" - Family of 4; includes whitewater fun, hike/climb to Travertine Falls, lunch, swimming in the Colorado River, helicopter ride out of the Canyon, and 1-night stay at Hualapai Lodge (either the night before OR the night after - we chose the night after). In our opinion, this is THE WAY to experience the West Rim! You'll travel almost 40 miles of the Colorado River, experiencing many rapids in the 1st half. Ratings of rapids depends on recent rainfall: Ours were rated 2 to 7 out of 10. Given that you are on a motorized pontoon boat, your driver can increase the thrill factor, if all/majority of the party agree. Backing up: Meet at Hualapai Lodge front area before 8am. Bus left around 8:15. Bus: Air-conditioned school bus with tour-bus seats that recline (appreciated for the 2.5-hr ride back to the lodge)! 17-mile unpaved drive to Diamond Creek: BUMPY! Cool vistas. Diamond Creek "drop" point: Port-a-potties, situate your "stuff" (Less-accessible "Dry" bag, and more easily accessible "Ammo Can" - water-resistant, but not water-proof), get fitted with your life vest/personal floatation device, meet your guide, test out the water temperature/pose for initial pic (if you choose to), board your boat, meet the others sharing the adventure with you! Off you go! Since we didn't have waterproof photography equipment, I sadly can't share the crazy-fun of any of the rapids. You need to hold on, so recommend a waterproof GoPro that attaches firmly to your head if you want the video! You _WILL_ get WET!!! About 1/4-1/3 of the way, you'll stop to hike/climb to Travertine Falls: AMAZING! Guides are SO AWESOME to take pics of you/your group (using your device), and they know the "right" positions to capture desired angles. A "photo boat" rides "with" you: They position their boat 1x on the port side, 1x starboard (both during rapids), & 1x facing them. Photos are available for purchase after your trip. The following comment has been added after initial post & viewing pics taken: Disappointed with the pics. Perhaps I'm comparing my photography at frat parties in college seeking to capture the most memorable moments but yeah, I was really bummed about the photos taken. For us, not one pic was worthy of purchase: totally bummed me out because we literally couldn't have taken pics without losing or destroying our cameras. Hope yours are better! Meanwhile, next stop: Lunch & swimming! Perfect! Great variety/choices! Depending on the conditions & group #s, potential additional swimming stop and "repeat" rapids (motoring back up to do it again!). 2nd 1/2 is calm waters: yay for a motor! Couldn't imagine being in an actual raft, so YEEHAW Hualapai River Runners! Helicopter ride: primarily to return to the West Rim "Depot." Cool nonetheless! Water is COLD, PERIOD (Austinites: colder than Barton Springs!). 8/2/19 trip, 103-108 deg F: SO happy we wore long-sleeved COTTON shirts that remained WET to keep us cool (Quick-dry shirts?: Likely better for cooler temps). Yes, wear bathing suits! MUST: Sandals/water shoes with secured heel for the hike/climb. Sunscreen: NECESSITY!!! Brought thin towels as sun shields (stored in the "dry bag"): Shared with others in our group. 3-4 of 8 in our group were COLD when wet with rapids. Considering rain slickers/ponchos?: LOL, unless you button them up completely including the hood, you'll still get wet! Stadium cushion is a neat "extra" consideration. Change of clothes: 100% optional - likely needed for cooler temps (we were dry by the helicopter ride bc it was hot!) Going when it's colder: Yes, you'll likely be cold. Imagining our hot day but cloudy, we likely would've been cold. Towels go in the "dry" bag and will be appreciated for the "float" portion. Be sure to secure glasses and hats! Oh boy where do I start? We did the one-day river rafting trip with helicopter and SkyWalk on 4/4/2021. Please forgive the late review. Arrival: We arrived at the lodge at around 7 am. We checked into our trip and signed some waivers. Now, this was when wearing masks was mandatory, but the staff and customers weren't wearing their masks. Big red flag. After completing check in, we waited until 8:15 when they started boarding, they had 2 buses with different boarding groups, and we purchased the skywalk and helicopter when we arrived. Anyways, they mixed us up and we changed buses, which delayed us leaving to the launching area. Bus ride down: To get to the launch zone, you take an old school bus down a dirt path for around an hour. While you're being driven down, you feel like you're in a tumble dryer. But, the scenery is nice . read more

I'm so torn on this. My wife and I booked the one-day rafting trip, but my wife wasn't able to go for medical reasons (a fracture she sustained). We contacted the company ahead of time, and they said there was nothing they could do, and they absolutely refused to refund or give her a credit toward a future trip. We had her doctor reach out to the company, and they still refused. I went on the trip without her (she went shopping & sight-seeing), and quite enjoyed the experience. Opt for the helicopter lift out if you can afford it. After the rapids, it's mostly just boating through the canyon in blistering sun (it was over 100 degrees when we went). 1.5 hours of post-rapid boating was enough, nevermind another 2 hours. If there were more stories/history told of the sites, that would have helped pass the time. Had the company been more reasonable about their cancellation policy, especially for someone with a fracture which could have been exacerbated by going, it probably would have been a 4-5 star rating. There are other rafting companies in the area, I'd recommend looking them up. read more

Please do not book a trip with these People!! In February 2021, I purchased 3 tickets for a June 25, 2021 1 day whitewater ride. We were so excited, rafting the Grand Canyon was on my husband's bucket list. On June 21, the company called and cancelled that trip due to river conditions and concerns about equipment. I was told that I would receive a refund, but have not yet. I have messaged through email and FB asking "When will I receive my refund?". I have not received a single response to any of the messages and not received the refund. It has been 11 weeks since the cancellation!! We were disappointed that the trip was cancelled, but understood. I don't understand at least an answer as to when i will receive my refund! We had other activities cancelled on that trip by the company, and had received full refunds from them within a week. After multiple emails and FB messages that have all been ignored, I filed a complaint with the BBB, which was also ignored! I will now have to seek legal counsel to initiate a suit. Again, this should be simple, Hualapai River Runners company cancelled the trip and owes me a full refund, I should not have to hire a lawyer to get my $ returned or at least an acknowledgement that. read more

Just finished a one day white water river rafting adventure with Haulapai Wave Runners in Peach Springs AZ. This was a fun experience that had been a life long dream that finally came true and checked off the bucket list. After researching this company and asking for recommendations they were highly recommended and I saw why. This was a first class operation with well trained staff from the online receptionist that made the reservations to the bus driver guide. The raft drivers were safety conscious yet they didn't disappoint when it came to making the best out of our experience. This was everything I had hoped for and more. The only disappointment was there was a storm the day before which turned the Colorado River from a beautiful sea foam green to a desert dirty brown. This didn't put to much of a damper on the boat operator's ability to get us good and wet with a mouth full of dirty river water. The lunch stop came after an exhilarating run down class 3's and 4's rapids but that prepared us for the 5, 6, and 7 further down the river. The lunch and snacks were very good and they made sure there was plenty of sandwiches and snacks for all and even enough for seconds if you wanted but don't. The only pro's or con's I would say was after the exhilaration of the Rapids about 8 total there is a long, long float down the river 30 miles or so, pro is that you get to see some of the most amazing sights of the Grand Canyon from the ground or river looking up which most people will never see, we saw the sky walk from below and animals and the earth moving with rock falling in the river. The con, it is a long ride in the sun on a boat but you never get board, one amazing sight after another and the driver gives a pretty good history lesson at different locations and you will be in awe of the enormity of the Grand Canyon. The total cost was over $300. per person ask for your discount if you can AAA, Mil, AARP or other group rates. Either way this will be an epic trip to remember forever and you can get very good quality digital photos of your group for sale at the hotel after the trip. Recommendation, take the river rafting trip but at the half way point you have an option of taking a helicopter ride after all the rapids and fly back to the pick up point. It's a little more expensive but it will give you another perspective view of the canyon, if I was to do it again that's what I would do. Call for a price. Overall this trip is great for family's, groups, couples or singles, young and mature. Caution you must be able to hang on for life there were people getting hurt in rough waters. After the amount I spent on these tickets, this is completely unacceptable. I've been on hold for more than ten minutes multand my email has been ignored. I can't believe I'm only the 4th reviewer, but Trip Advisor has 114 reviews with a 4 1/2 star out of 5 average, so that tells you a lot. This was part of a very long day, but looking back, was a day that we will never forget. We stayed in Williams (took the Railway in and out on Day 1 and took a motor coach tour while at the Canyon's South Rim), so had a 1.5 hour coach ride to the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Spring, then a 50 minute ride in a school bus down a not-often traveled road to the river-it was bumpy but set the stage for the day well. Once at the landing spot, we boarded the raft as part of a 5 boat excursion. We definitely lucked out as our guide/driver, Tyler, was terrific-an experienced boat master who had interesting and humorous stories about the river, Grand Canyon, other tours, and his heritage. He was energetic and was equally attentive to all passengers and kept the trip lively. We were wet from the get go and the 8 rapids were quite an experience. The other boats didn't appear to be anywhere near as wet as our boat, but they weren't grinning ear-to-ear or laughing like ours either! There was one stop for a hike into a canyon where there is a waterfall-a great photo spot and the climb up and down are moderate in terms of difficulty, but the guides were with us all the way and it was such a great weather day (mid 70's and sunny with a light breeze down in the canyon), that it was a great stop/diversion. We also stopped for lunch, which was perfect-a big sandwich with an apple, drinks were provided throughout, and chips. The focus is on conservation and keeping the canyon and river clean and beautiful, so that was important throughout the day and my boys took it to heart. The rapids are during the first 1/3 of the trip then the rest is rafting with minor ripples at various speeds where you can just enjoy the view-what's ahead and to the side is interesting, but take a look back at what you've passed and it is awesome. A 5 hour ride that goes 37 miles and feels like it was an hour! The other highlight was after walking up the deck stairs to board a helicopter, which takes you up and out of the canyon and to a nearby helipad-first time for anyone in my family and we all appreciated the ride and view throughout. My recommendation would be to stay at or drive to the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs as that will shorten your commute before and after by about 3 hours, but this was a great time and worth every penny. There is very little information provided before you arrive as to, what to expect. We showed up at 7am like tickets said but in reality you won't depart until after 8am. It is an hour ride to the rafts. Once their we stood around in the sun for another 30-45 minutes while the crews got the rafts ready. We hit the water around 9am. The first 2.5-3hours were fun after that it was a total train wreck. You can count on no shade anywhere for your entire trip and you will be on the water for a minimum of 7hours baking. Additionally, you will be sitting on hot metal benches the entire way. A MAJOR PROBLEM that apparently continues to happen is the boat engines break down. They then off load the other people into other boat after considerable time trying to fix it. Reading other reviews- it sounds like after years of this problem they should buy new engines. After finally limping to the river exit and getting out of the river at around 5:30pm we were picked up by the buss. It then took the buss 2 hours to get us out of the Canyon and the buss died. Our group found another buss and paid them to take us back. We got back to the hotel around 9:30pm and have no idea when the main group made it back. Lastly, we were hoping for some photos from the photographer but somehow all the photos from the SD card got deleted. I would add that the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. read more

This was an amazing trip and experience. Shawn and Tatum (maybe) were great guides with lots of history and a good eye for things. Not much wildlife this time of year, but we got to see a family of big horn sheep. Prepare yourself for the hour bus ride to the start of the rafting and then the 2.5 hour ride back. The first segment is all rapids (water temp is 45 degrees year round) with a small hike to a waterfall in between. Wearing good gripped sneakers or water shoes - no boots or flip flops or crocs. You will go waist deep into water somewhere regardless. Get a camera case that is waterproof and has a lanyard. The quiet ride is a bit too long and everyone seemed to have the same opinion, 3 hours is too long, but apparently there are only 3 places you can dock along the river. We do go all the way into Nevada! And you get to see the sky bridge from here. If you have the few extra bucks, I would recommend doing the rafting plus helicopter- gives a better perspective and it's faster. read more

STAY AWAY! Safety, maintenance clearly not important to the Hualapai. in summary, the following makes it clear that safety (proactive maintenance) and service (responsiveness without having to be asked, and honest communication) are not important to the Hualapai: · 3 boat motor failures · 2 buses breaking down · Over 5 hours of delays standing around just at the two boat ramps, not including the side of road and at the lodge. · 80% of the rapids were experienced floating uncontrollably with no means to steer the raft · The lodge is a noisy, slow-service motel at best, right by freight train tracks and next to a decaying gas station We left the "lodge" late at 8:30 and didn't get back until 1am the next day! Then had to drive back to Las Vegas arriving at almost 4am. Believe the other negative reviews and be prepared if you still decide to do this. I would not do it again, and go hike some of the south rim trails instead. Don't roll the dice with your precious vacation time and safety. read more

We had a trip booked months in advance for the two day rafting trip for 5 people. We never received any kind of itinerary or information via email regarding our trip. I called 3 days before our trip to confirm the arrival time and packing list with the receptionist. We got a call 1 hour later stating they did not have a guide available for the two day trip but we could book the one day trip for a 10% discount or we could be refunded. We paid over $4,000 for tickets, bought gear and booked plane tickets months in advance for this trip. This company is extremely unprofessional! On top of everything else, you can not reach anyone at the front desk after 3:30 pm to resolve the matter. When we finally spoke with the supervisor she stated she needed until Friday to refund us the money. Needless to say, our whitewater rafting experience was ruined due to poor planning and poor management from this company. Save yourself the headache and book with a legit company! read more

I have never given a one star review to any company, but feel compelled to do so, because the management of Hualapai River Runners never responded to the email that I sent them about major safety concerns with one of their rafting guides. I will qualify this review with the following--we booked 5 rafts, 4 of the 5 rafts had an excellent experience. Had our raft been guided by a competent guide, our experience would have been great too. In short, our guide did not give us a proper briefing, put us backwards into the one obstacle that we were told to avoid, had my friend not shouted "watch out" I would have cracked my head open on a huge rock. He then put us sideway into a standing wave, knocking 4 of us out of the raft--2 of us were stuck under the raft (I was down there for at least 10 seconds)... Most importantly when these things happened the guide just shut down--he went silent, as if he was in shock. The guide did not tell us what to do, did not help, did not check in if people were OK...we were effectively on our own. Again, not a single person fell out of any of the other rafts--their guides knew what they were doing. In fact, one of our friends who was following our raft told us that we took the worst line possible through every rapid. I am only writing this review because of the lack of response from Management--this is a safety concern. We were fortunate that none of us got hurt--they next group of rafters might not be so lucky. read more

One of the days that you will always remember. The white water rafting was thrilling. Rapids ranging from category 3, 4 to 7. The views to die for. Just the fact that you're doing it in the Grand Canyon is simply incredible. Our guide, Henry was amazing!!! He made sure that we enjoy the rapids. Make sure you bring a lot of sunscreen as it is much warmer at the bottom of the canyon. I also recommend wearing clothes that dry quickly and a wide brim hat, and water shoes. You can cool off by taking a dip in the Colorado River. That is offered to you at lunch and one more time after that. Before that you will take a very short hike to a stunning waterfall. If you can, choose to fly the helicopter. The views are stunning. The Skywalk at the West Rim will leave you speechless. Definitely not for those who are afraid of heights. You can't take your own pictures at the Skywalk. Only the professional photographers can do it. But once you leave the Skywalk, there's an area to your left with incredible views of the Grand Canyon. Cushions would be a plus because your backside gets to hurting sitting on metal. At Travertine Falls, staff were taking photos of groups, but my husband and I knew nothing about it. Hualapai River Runners is the best tour group I've been on so far!!! The people and experience were incredible!!! Because we were a large group the organizer received a great deal. While most people see the Grand Canyon from the top perspective, my group and I had the opportunity to see it from the bottom, the side, inside, outside, top, looking down, seriously amazing!!! And the tour guides are awesome. My guide didn't talk much, but I didn't mind because he made sure my group and I were safe in the raft and made our rafting experience an adventurous one! In one day we were able to see the Grand Canyon from many different perspectives. Via Whitewater rafting, stopped for lunch provided by the tour (food was turkey sandwiches, grapes, and chips. They also had other snacks like cookies, nuts, etc. And plenty of water and soda) We got to go on rapids that were class 3 all the way up to 7. They provide life jackets, so it felt so safe that pretty much any age can go on the raft. During the whitewater rafting trip, we stopped for a hike to see some beautiful waterfalls! Then we rafter more, to see the canyon in a another perspective via helicopter, and then we went on the skywalk. Seriously, this tour was so worth it! Made the trip worthwhile! *They do have a guy who takes professional photos, but you might want to take your own go-pro and take your photos. I went with a big group, so the photo guy didn't take many pictures of my group. Good thing is we took our own photos, but it would've been nice to see it from his lens. *NOTE, the skywalk didn't come with out tour, we had to pay extra. It's worth it because you're already there, might as well see it from another perspective, a glass floor so you can see how high you really are. It's a little bit scary, so make sure you're not near friends who want to jump on the floor. To me it felt like standing on a window high above. My friend and I went on the river rafting trip for my birthday! We had a blast!!! it was a full day of fun that just kept getting better. Our guide was great - he guided the boat through some great rapids - making sure to get us soaking wet in the process. It is well worth the trip if you don't/can't do a multi day trip. You get to go rafting, hiking, swimming, sunbathing, and then a quick helicopter ride back up to the top of the canyon! The trip was $350 well worth it for all the activities included. First off, I don't want this to be a reflection on the boat operators. Our guide was a a really nice dude and you can tell he was just as miserable as the rest of us. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was one of the longest days of my life. When we showed up there was no organization, the crew at the beach was late setting up the boats and the guy that was supposed to be operating the safety boat never showed up. Once we finally set off we got through the first set of rapids and one of the other boats broke down. This is not a rare occurrence apparently. Over the course of the ten hours we were on the water 4 of the 7 boats completely broke down. Since every boat stops when one breaks down that means that we were mostly sitting still for the first 3 hours while the tour guides tried to troubleshoot multiple broken engines. When we got to lunch they had no ice in the coolers so the only thing to drink was lukewarm soda and water. In the bottom of the Grand Canyon. In 110° heat. This tour was supposed to be done and dusted by 6:30-7 PM. We didn't get back until 11PM. I would put this as a one off occurrence, but some of the workers there said that this same thing had happened the last two days in a row and urged us to write reviews about the abysmal reliability of the outboard motors on the boats. For $600 a person you'd think this would be a much more put together tour. read more

Day started out great - ran rapids, got splashed, had a lot of fun. Afternoon was a different story - the engine stopped working and we were left out on the river adrift for over 2 hours. No shortwave radio, no paddles, no backup. Tried calling 911 but did not have service. Sat in the metal raft on the river through 3 thunderstorms with lightning all around. We were eventually saved by another outfitter who towed us in. Only 5 minutes before arriving at the destination point did we see our rescue boat. We learned from the other members of the group, that another boat's engine had broken down (that's 2 of 4 boats). Luckily, we complained to Rivers & Oceans (the broker for HRR) and they gave us our money back. If I were you, I would choose another outfitter with safety equipment onboard. STAY AWAY!! After getting up at 2:30am in the morning in Sedona and driving three hours for our one day river rafting they canceled the trip when we walked in to register. The young girl was laughing on the phone and offered no apology or reasonable explanation. They simply said people didn't show up to work today. This trip had been booked for months in advance for a family vacation. not only was the front desk staff rude and unwelcoming, no one offered any apology. They did say if we came back we would get half off, what a joke! After reading several more reviews we saw how unreliable and unprofessional this company is. We made the best of it and had fun elsewhere and will never go back there. The most frustrating thing of all was the lack of sympathy kindness and professionalism from this no class staff. They also told me I would have to wait over 10 days to get a refund on my credit card and would not give me any written proof of a upcoming refund.
