The staff was AMAZING. It was my first time fishing and I got s a sick and had a very bad case of Vertigo. John Boy brought me a ginger ale to help me feel better. The crew was very understanding and helpful. They offered great advice for a speedy recovery. They were helpful to everyone and patient. They assist with baiting, fishing line issues, taking fish off the hook (yuck) and they even clean and filet your catch. There is a small service fee of 3 fish for a dollar to clean . You can rent cross and reel, they provide equip bait and you can purchase shrimp for bait. They offer snacks, sandwiches and bear to purchase on the boat but you need cash. There are restrooms on the boat. Overall it was a great experience. The experience is worth every dollar and I will be going back very soon. read more

We had an amazing time on this trip! The boat had it all (even a toilet). Captain Robin, Kim, and their best mate Tim were amazing! We saw sea turtles, dolphins, and manatees. We found amazing shells, which Kim turned into the most perfect mother/daughter matching necklaces. Tim made certain that each person on the boat had at least one genuine shark tooth, and Robin shared the extensive history of the island and other iconic spots in the region. 10/10 highly recommend this boat, this crew, and a visit to Fort Desoto/Egmont Key! read more

This trip was promoted and advertised as catching hogfish. That was my only reason for going. During the introductory speech by Dylan Hubbard, he said the target fish was "grey snapper". That fish is commonly called a Grunt, it is not a snapper. As Mr. Hubbard was leaving, Zi said to him that the three rods I was bringing were rigged for hogfish, his reply was, "One can only hope.". That tells me he knew it was highly unlikely that hogfish would be caught. In fact, no one caught hogfish on the trip. I believe it was deliberately false advertising to promote this trip for people wanting hogfish. read more

The crew: My buddy and I both agreed, the mates are complacent. Their priority (and sometimes seeming their only job) was to pick up your fish and find its way to your stinger. We cut our own bait (supplied), removed every fish we hooked, keeper or not, vented our own fish, and were left to deal with our own tangles, of which their were countless. If any assistance was given with a tangle, it was a quick decision and a sharp knife.The caught fish weren't going anywhere as we felt the mates help would be best spent getting fishermens' lines back into the water. My partner had an out of season grouper on his line in the water for 10 minutes waiting for the mate and his gaff for release. Cost him all that down time while the mates collected landed fish on the deck. Finally the captain helped. The seminar on the trip out was a nice touch as was the boat providing both hooks and line to create our own leaders. The cook, Jason, was the best mate. Gregarious, helpful and attentive. The Boat: tight fishing even though we went out with 11 short of the load. We couldn't imagine a full load of fishermen. Just too many fishermen for that size boat. Both bathrooms had floors that were consistently under water. Try sitting on a toilet seat and not soaking your dropped drawers. Sorry ladies. Upstairs bunks are tight and narrow, but no different then other similar charter boats. It's open air, which I enjoyed. winter might be a different story. Fishing: It's a loooong ride out, but they tell you that. What we did not expect was the 30 to 60 minute rides between stops of which there were many. We'd have loved a heads up and caught a snooze; instead, a lesson in frustration and the moves seemed endless in time and patience. All lost fishing time. The bite was fair. Only about 4-5 of us (out of 39) limited on the target fish, Red Snapper, and no limit reached on any other species. maybe 4-8 gray snappers, same with porgies, per man. In conclusion: We'd not do it again. But they have their "regulars" so probably don't care. Next we will try the 12 hour "Extreme" trip. BTW, the loading area is very busy, but the attendants are super helpful and keep everything moving. Hope this helps. Tight lines. read more

Took the ferry out to Egmont Key with family visiting from out of state (on the 2nd ferry to go to the island since the hurricanes)! We enjoyed exploring the batteries, collecting shells & a picnic amongst the palm trees lining the beach. Everything about our trip was amazing! Captain Tip & Kim were the absolute BEST! They made the ferry ride so fun! We saw a manatee, dolphins, a shark, a sea turtle, tarpons, and eagle spotted manta rays! Egmont Key was AMAZING! It was like being on a Caribbean island! We have been "hooked" on Hubbard's Marina since our very first 5-hour trip in 2021. They're customer service is outstanding! We have gone back to Hubbard's every year since. If you're new to offshore fishing, take the 5-hour just to get used to using a conventional reel if you've never used one, its a different animal, if you want to go out on one of the 39-44 hour trips its the preferred set-up. The captains and crews are really great folks, they are always encouraging and great at answering questions. We just returned from our annual trip, our first boat trip out was for hogfish. My son and I caught 7 hogs with 4 being keepers! We had a great time talking with the other anglers on the boat, really a great time on the water! Well-priced, fun sunset cruise. They did a good job making things fun. Not awesome, but good. Even though it was a sunset cruise, they attempted to provide a dolphin show when a few were spotted. It didn't work out, but that's not their fault and they tried. The clouds didn't cooperate well, but we saw the last couple minutes of the sunset. Probably one of the most entertaining parts was the other patrons, who were having a really great time singing with the music and laughing. Our captain and crew were good enough to encourage them, which made things very fun. I may try a different cruise next time, but I'd say this one is worth the money and effort. Also, if you get there late in the day during off season, it may be cheaper and easier to park on the street or in a muni lot. If you're going to be there for hours, then their deal with the parking lot may be better. read more

My buddy and I had an amazing experience with Hubbard Marina. The day started out checking in, and the staff at the boathouse is very helpful (especially at 6am). They told us "you've got a very light load today. You guys will be able to stretch out!" We boarded the boat and the crew needed to do some routine maintenance to the boat. After about an hour to hour and a half of waiting on the maintenance on the engine, the captain took us off the boat and explained "your safety is our #1 priority". He then informed us that since we had a small load, we would get an upgraded experience on the Flying Hub. He also said, for our inconvenience they would comp our rod rentals, anyone that ordered the food package would be comped and they provided some basic sandwiches and provided coolers of beer, water and soda at no additional charge (since the flying hub did not have a galley). This boat was fast, and the waves were rough that day. The crew got us out around 10 miles from shore and we caught a lot of fish. The crew was funny and helpful, even with taking the fish off the hooks for everyone. I was really impressed with the entire organization. They were clear, communicative and fun. Me & a friend took the 5hr trip & had a great time from start to finish. On the trip we got to enjoy calm waters, good vittles from the galley, great staff & of course lot's of catching! Milo & Super K kept everyone fish ready but my favorite was the 3 10sh yr old girls, 2 Madison & Ashley. They would take the catch to be put on the stringer, get help if the line broke, blah blah..tuff little ladies. Upon docking we're asked if we want our fish cleaned. Should be six stars. I booked a half day like 3 months in advance with nothing but a yelp review to guide me. This experience was awesome. I flew into Tamp Bay to celebrate my sons 13th birthday and surprised him with a half day fishing trip. No promises on what would happen but this was a great trip. Caught 15 good sized Spanish mackerels, 1 was over 21 inches!!! Captain Pete and his deck hand "Scraps" were very knowledgeable, friendly and wanted to hear how I would want the day to be like (just catch some good eating fish). 5/4/2025: 10 hour fishing trip. Let me first say that we have been on over 10 trips with Hubbard's and each time the trip was amazing with regards to weather, crew, and fishing. Unfortunately this last trip was a horrible experience for us. As we departed the marina, we were made aware that the 1 1/2 hour ride out would be rough due to the weather but nothing prepared us for the rolling seas and swells that were well over 2ft which contributed to the ride out to the first location taking 2 1/2 hours instead of 1 1/2. When we finally were ready to fish it was like fishing on a teeter - totter and was not enjoyable at all due to the amount of effort required to keep your balance to prevent falling over board. Although the weather improved drastically by early afternoon the swells were still high. We went to a total of 4 spots and 2/4 were fruitless. Although some passengers were able to land good sized fish, the majority that were caught were not keepers. The fishing seemed to be cut short so that we could head back to the marina which was dissapointing. Overall, we attributed this experience to bad weather and will give Hubbard's another try for the 10 hour fishing excursion.
