This is quite possibly the best restaurant to ever exist in Stanford…read more I grew up in Stanford, I can tell you that in the 1980's and 1990's that local restaurants here were nothing but no-name greasy spoon diners selling nothing but fairly generic "burger and fries" and breakfast food, and it was usually pretty lousy. I was back in the town I grew up in a couple of weeks ago, and heard there was a really nice cafe in Stanford now called the Bluebird, so I sought it out. I was amazed. This definitely is more like a place I would expect in Lexington or Louisville. The food is genuinely good. Iced coffee and espresso, hot browns, and lots of other food that was never in Stanford when I was growing up there as a kid. I know that Stanford went wet a few years ago in a referendum, but it's still surreal to see margaritas and other mixed drinks on the menu in a place in Stanford. The ambiance was friendly and welcoming, and struck a nice balance between small town friendly. I had a patty melt, which was probably the best meal I'd ever had in a restaurant in Stanford in my entire life. I will definitely be back the next time I come back to my old hometown.

Freshly sautéed shrooms, cooked perfectly, juicy, seasoned well, served on a brioche bun. They offered a great selection of sides. I chose the chicken lemon orzo soup. It was a generous serving abundant w tender chicken. Our server, Autumn, was personable and, simply, just perfect at her job. We will return.

When we confirmed with the waitress it did have that ingredient, the waitress shrugged and said sorry while walking away. It was a skillet so there was no picking around anything. Never offered to remake or anything. She did ask if we wanted a box to take it home. Unimpressed with the lack of customer service. (But the gentlemen bussing tables was very attentive and sweet!)

We sat at the bar because it was still pretty packed. The place was fun - the service was a bit silly in a good way. Great cocktails. Great ambiance and decor. My bourbon-grilled pork chops were fantastic. Good cornbread. Green beans were fantastic. The fried apples were just okay - a bit on the dry side. My friend's chicken and waffles looked amazing. Another friend's ribeye looked a bit overdone to me, but he seemed to like it. I wish the souvenir store was still open when we were there (it closed at 6pm) because I would have liked to bring home a trinket or shirt. Maybe upon next visit - because I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Bardstown. Make it a priority to stop in!

Of course since I was in bourbon country, I got an old fashioned as well. My waiter, Ashley, was so lovely. They accidentally brought out cinnamon sugar butter for the sweet potato when I asked for regular, and she noticed it when she set my food down. Filet was seared and cooked perfect, it could have been better seasoned, I had to add some salt.

The restaurant is open to the public. The visit was on a Saturday around 730 PM and they were packed! I was able to score two seats at the bar for myself and wife. The noise was overbearing. The dining room is nothing fancy with little to no decor. The bar had room for approximately 15-18 guest. Our bartender got menus and waters to us quickly and gave us time to review. Very noteworthy was the amount of alcohol flowing from the bar, I mean Whoah! Also the most popular drink in Bourbon Country was surprisingly a Margarita. So my wife had to get one and thought it was good, nothing crazy. The bourbon menu was excellent, however pricing for the allocated bottles were pricey. I decided to pass. I ordered a ribeye with sweet potato and steamed veggies. My wife chicken. With baked potato and steamed veggies. They have a well rounded menu. The wait was a bit long, maybe 35 min or tad more. But we were in no hurry, so no complaints. The entrees both looked great upon delivery. The sweet potato with plenty of cinnamon butter was phenomenal! So too were the steamed veggies. The steak was average and lacked flavor. For the price the steak was a big disappointment. It required a lot of A1. My wife enjoyed her meal. The service was pretty average with no check on steak, temps etc. until well over half was finished. Total visit was over and hour and you could see the dining room was clearing out. The bill was no bargain mainly due to the steak. My card was processed quickly, but no thank you for dining with us type of tag line at the end. As much as I wanted to provide a 4 star it really adds up to a 3.5 and I'm rounding down. I would still return if in the area because there are few choices.
