Stopped in for Sunday supper after a long drive with my wife and mom. To be a little different, we sat at the bar this Sunday supper. Alec did a great job, taking care of us! We really appreciated his friendliness and professionalism, not to forget his great cocktails! I split an order of their new oysters on the Half shell with my mom. The oysters were fresh and delicious! I enjoyed the champagne vinaigrette; however, a side of horseradish or cocktail sauce would be nice as well. My wife decided on their beef carpaccio as her main dish while my mom ordered a bowl of the Hungarian mushroom soup. I tried their special, a flight of wings! Three bowls of wings with different sauces for a total of 15 wings! The sauces were spectacularly good! Alabama White, barbecue, and another that I cannot remember but all very delicious! It also came with a side of their homemade ranch style dressing. Needless to say, I was not able to eat all 15 of those wings. The window looking out from the bar is exceptionally nice at sunset. Another terrific meal with the traffic and friendly staff here at Hudson & Essex! Looking forward to the next!

cream cheese garlic bread best thing ever.

The food was AMAZING! Can't wait to come back for the cream cheese garlic bread and another steak, both were incredible. The risotto was also delicious! Our server Reid was awesome and made the whole experience even better and gave us great recommendations. Highly recommend!!!

    Wine rack in Prohibition cellars

We were very surprised to find the Prohibition, let alone impressed with its experience. There is no yelp or Facebook presence. Despite such we discovered it with word of mouth and Google (they do have a discreet web page...but little traffic gets to it). We spend a month in the Ohio area and routinely have pot roast or subpar mexican Food for options...so we were excited to try it! The Prohibition requires a reservation and although it is "under" Hudson & Essex's fine dining restaurant, it does not share the same menu nor dining room. Its 29.5' underground! The dining room itself is worth the experience. Period. Setup in late 1800's to ferment beer, it has been converted to a special restaurant experience. Loved the food. I posted a picture of the room and menu from our special night It's pricey. Totally fair price and less than you would pay In Cleveland for similar. Unfortunately, the price may chase several away. You simply cannot recreate this experience or quality of food for less, though. The owners were lovely. They greeted us at our table. Thanked us for our patronage. Shared how they discovered the caverns...and, visited the other tables. Service was great. Wine pairing was remarkably inexpensive and limited to the local onsite winery options. We would highly recommend this place for a special evening. For us, we celebrated our anniversary.

Second review. Went to o celebrate anniversary and birthday. This place is just awesome. As good as any place we've been in Columbus, Cincinnati or Indianapolis. Great food, excellent service, welcoming owners who visit every table. This time we ate in the winery cellar. It was more casual than upstairs but still very nice.

The food and the service were both amazing! We sat at the bar in the restaurant upstairs which had a nice view! The bartender was super fun to talk to and we had really great service! The Armenian cheese bread is to die for! You MUST get it! My friend got the Caesar salad and she said it was good but nothing too special. We both had the filet with broccoli and truffle fries. The filet was amazing and cooked perfectly to my order. I wish the fries were thinner and crispier but that is personal preference. They still had really great flavor. The bartender recommended the whipped cheddar mash, but they were all out so we will be back to try them! They make their own wine and the few that we tried were very good! The manager even gave us a tour of the Prohibition at the Caverns, which is only open on the weekends. We will definitely be back again!

First time. Some thoughts: Ambiance was lovely. I can see why it gets rave reviews. Needed some music on. Was very quiet. Wait staff was friendly. Bacon wrapped scallops - B-. Tasty but just not much zing for your dollar. 4 scallops - $18 Beef tartare - good but uninspiring. Better portion size. $18 Wedge salad - while it was good and the horseradish dressing was very good. Was a 1/2 wedge. Very small. $12 Mushroom Swiss Burger. Mushroom very good. Burger ordered med rare. Straight raw (said in a Gordon Ramsey voice). Wayyy to much bun. Bun overwhelmed this Drinks: Sangiovese. As a wine snob, very good. Probably the most reasonably priced on the table. Bloody Mary - asked for it extra spicy - bartender obliged. Very tasty.

    Filet. Médium. Potatoes. Mushrooms.

Great service, mediocre food that was overpriced. Honestly, the level of salt, grease, herbs, and other flavors was so much. What could have been an amazing filet was instead overwhelmed with pickled mushrooms and greasy potatoes with a lifetime supply of parsley. Less is more. Still gave it a 3. Maybe I'm a tough critic.

I had to run an errand down from Cleveland to north central Ohio this week, Mansfield to be exact. I knew nothing about Mansfield, never been there before. And I have to admit: I thought it was going to be a slog and a chore and that I'd be lucky if I found something other than fast food for dinner. Then I had the good fortune to discover Hudson and Essex. This was an excellent fine dining restaurant, on par with the better ones in Northeast Ohio. Housed in what was originally the showroom for two old automotive brands, Hudson and Essex, the dining room is tastefully decorated and sports a beautiful bar with two large mirrors. Downstairs is a more informal, cafe-style space with live jazz on Friday and Saturday nights. There is also a nice patio. And they make their own wine, importing grapes from a friend who owns a Napa winery. I had a small taste of their Malbec and it was very good. Everything we had here was delicious, but the baked feta with olives, sundried tomatoes, and grilled bread was really something else. The ribeye with root vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes, in a creamy horseradish sauce topped with chimichurri, was excellent. And the wine list, while on the smaller side, had excellent options (Silver Oak, Derange, Quilt, etc.). I went with a Brunello, because I like the stronger tannins with steak, and wasn't disappointed. We sat at the bar and the service was genuine, pleasant and attentive. The owners also came over and said hello, and we noticed they went and did that with every table. What was nice was that they were very genuine, asking us questions about ourselves and obviously paying attention and listening. It was a nice old-school style approach to winning over and retaining a customer base. Would be nice if every business did that these days. The whole "Brickyard" area of Mansfield is really cool - hip, arty, nice redesign and repurposing of industrial architecture. Made me wonder what else I might be missing in this and other towns like it in Ohio. Hudson and Essex is an excellent restaurant, worthy of a day trip from Cleveland or Columbus just for dinner. The stroll around the Brickyard area on a warm night after dinner was also very nice. We will be back!

Lovely local restaurant with great friendly staff. The food was delicious and unique. Atmosphere is really delightful and the owners made sure to come over and greet our group personally. Pricier for the area so expect to pay a decent total.

We all had a great time!

There isn't enough wonderful words to say about this diamond in Mansfield, Ohio. Took my 20+plus staff here for a company dinner! The server was prompt, attentive, and patient. The FOOD....I'm going to use this word exquisite!! The wine is from California...so you already know it was delicious! To top it off the owners came by and thanks us for dining with them. They are adorable and truly care about their customers! Highly highly recommend!

Holy smokes!!! This place is amazing! Food, service, and atmosphere are top-notch! The pictures speak for themselves! The owner stopped by each table and actually spent time chatting; he was the sweetest gentleman. Whoever from this business reads these reviews, please tell the chef and their support how amazing they are. If brunch is this good, I can't wait to have dinner there.

But next to the coffee was the donut case, and I did not expect to get seduced so easily, but alas I fell hard. For a mere $2.49 had an amazing maple cream stick. Not too sugary sweet. The inside was filled with almost like a rich whipped cream versus a buttercream. The shell was lightly fried, not greasy. And the maple topping was smooth, not gritty, and evenly applied across the donut so I got some with every bite. I'm going to think about this donut for a long time. I also snagged a box of fritters for the rest of the crew, but I sat silently on their porch swing and ate that donut and drank my basic coffee in blissful silence. It was the perfect way to start my day. They also offer an abundance of groceries and supplies for campers since the campground is nearby. From the looks of the space, they're a bar by night and lunch spot by day. Really cool old space with original hardwood floors, high cathedral ceilings and rustic charm. Ambiance was on point. Their menu is fairly unique. A number of custom house options that take traditional sandwiches and add stuff you wouldn't necessarily expect. I ended up getting one of their seasonal specials that is a play on a grilled cheese sandwich. It came on toasted, marbled, rye, with feta cheese, fresh, sliced jalapeños, fresh, sliced pineapple, and Swiss cheese. I always love, trying things that combine, savory, sweet, and spicy. So I was hoping for the best with this one, and it delivered. The sandwich came with hot waffle, fries, and a side of ketchup. Shout out to the two people working, as they were completely overwhelmed, but getting food out to tables regardless. I was expecting a pretty long wait time based on the orders ahead of me, but my food came out in under 10 minutes. I was impressed all things considered. My only small complaint is the pricing is just a little bit high for what you get. Especially a grilled cheese. It's just bread, pineapple, jalapeño, and cheese. I don't feel like that should cost $13. I wish the waffle fries came with it for that price. But they were an additional three dollars, as well as three dollars for a fountain drink. After taxes and tip, it was a little over $23. That's a pretty steep price to pay for what was supposed to be a simple lunch. I would definitely come here again, but not on the regular simply based on the high prices.
