Visited this quaint restaurant in my hometown of Mansfield Ohio with some co-workers for the first time. As soon as I walked in, I was immediately greeted with a friendly smile from a waitress. The atmosphere was very warm, cozy, and welcoming. I ordered an appetizer, Spinach + Artichoke dip served with pita chips. It was served hot, which I appreciated it. Personally I would have preferred to have more of a cheesier dip. For my main entree I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap with fresh cut fries. While I would have preferred thick fresh fries, these were shoe string fries and tasted decent. Overall my meal was okay but I was expecting bigger + bolder tastes. Hotspot right here. Wandered in on a rainy Tuesday around 630 and bar was full with many tables filled. I was just at another pub and they recommended getting a snack from here. Sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive. Maybe a little too much. You ever have a bartender use your name like every other word? Just a bit annoying. Don't waste your money. Rueben sandwich was completely soggy. My french fries were almost burnt. My companion had a bacon cheese burger. The patty was super dry and flavorless. The burger had ZERO condiments. We tried to ask the waitress and she just walked away before we could ask. His fries were also on the verge of being burned. The booths were dirty. Our first stop on our date day! Only the second time we've ever visited. Love their TouchTunes jukebox! We ordered beverages while pursuing the menu. I asked for a Bulliet Manhattan. We decided to split the Chicken Quesadilla and a side of tots. Our beverages came out and I immediately noticed the red hue of my Manhattan. The was so much maraschino cherry juice in it, it totally overwhelmed it. I couldn't taste the sweeet Vermouth and barely the bourbon! I asked for draft beer when I finished it. On the bright side, the Quesadilla was delicious! Huge and served with a fair salsa and sour cream. The tots were hot and crispy! If could leave zero stars I would! I ordered a burger and fry combo. After taking two bites I find a long string of hair coming from under the cheese. At first the waitress seemed to be really cool she looked and said "eww that's nasty" took my plate and walk away saying nothing. I was wrong for assuming that she was going to have my food remade. City Grill was able to host a table of 11 people for lunch. The table was ready when arrived early and the hostess immediately sat us and introduced our waitress. Our waitress was excellent dealing with such a large group and efficiently and accurately took our drink orders and lunch order. All drinks and food were served within a very reasonable period. We were visiting from out of town and we were starving. I put "food near me" into Google and City Grille and Bar was the closest thing so we went with it. I noticed right away that the hostess wasn't overly friendly but didn't hold it against her because not everyone can be as chipper as me. The waitress came and took our drink order. The Pretzels came out super quick. They appeared as if they were pulled from box of Super Pretzels that you get from the freezer section at your local grocery store. I could have bought probably 2 boxes for the price of that appetizer. The beer cheese that came with it was not tasty at all and it had a curdled appearance (). The ranch she brought tasted sour or vinegary. I've never tasted ranch like that before. Maybe it was bad? I don't know. I used it once and that was it. It's definitely not like me to leave the ranch cup full. My husband got boneless wings that didn't look too bad. I got fish tacos. Two breaded little fish in a tortilla on top of what tastes like tub coleslaw. I ate one and left the other. While we ate I watched the waitress and the hostess interact with the customers. Both were very dry. I never saw them smile or make polite conversation to any of the customers. When the waitress brought our food she just set it down in front of us and left. Like literally a drop and go situation. As she walked away I spoke for her under my breath "Is there anything else I can get for you? No? Ok enjoy!" Nothing like that. So bizarre. At the end on our bill I noticed they charged $.89 for the ranch I ordered for the pretzels? Really? A tiny cup of ranch? I've never been charged for a side of ranch before. We were seated promptly by the large front window on a Satuday evening. We were greeted by our waitress right away and she patiently waited as I made my drink order. I ordered a pear cider versus a beer and I wish that I had just ordered a diet or a water. I am not a cider drinker. So, I had a hard time drinking a pint and left about 1/4 of it and ended up ordering a diet anyhow. Everyone ordered a burger at my table but I ordered the grilled chicken teriyaki wrap. To cut to the chase, the combination of lettuce and teriyaki did not marry up. If they would have used julienned carrots (raw or blanched) with the cucumbers and maybe a little bit of summer squash or spinach, it would have been a completely different experience. I almost fell out of my chair when the waitress recomended the wraps to the table next to us. (NOOOoooo!) Hopefully, they picked a better option. I ordered cole slaw as my side dish and it seemed to be the kind from a plastic tub. (Blech!) It was very bland and lacked color. Cole slaw is so easy to make. I don't understand why restaurants cannot prepare it from scratch and use a tried-and-true creamy dressing or vinegar-based dressing. It was a bummer eating their version...I should have asked for hot sauce and made it a "buffalo slaw". Overall, I wished I had just heated up the leftover pizza from Besta Fasta pizza we had in our hotel fridge from the night before. I am not a local and maybe locals' have a favorite menu item? If so, mention it. It would help if the restaurant had a specialty item maked on the menu so when new people try their food, they know what to order the first time they go. read more

I had a Philly cheese steak and the meat was pretty dry, seemed to have more Bun than filling. So I used some of my boyfriends mayo to fix it up. This restaurant NEEDS BAR RESCUE!!!!! Walked in to a huge line on a big night in town. No big deal right? Except was greeted by no one. The hostess was serving drinks and some older woman was sorting menus in between sippin her wine from an occupied table -- occupied by a waitress sorting silverware. Odd, should have been occupied by some of the 13 guests in line, but I digress. Anywho, stood in line for 7-10 and two other ladies walk in behind us and cut the line and tell the hostess they need a table for two. I speak up and say, 'excuse me, we were in line before her' hostess makes eye contact and nothing else. Older woman continues sipping wine, hostess is serving drinks and getting people mixed up, we are now at 15ish minutes with no real acknowledgement. Now we see a group get up and leave. The group that was seated as we walked in. Never ordered. My friend says 'is it time to go?' I say 'nope, I'm staying for this shit show'. Hostess now tries to seat us before two other couples ahead of us. Other waitress or older woman is still sippin wine and sorting stuff. Finally seated at a table for 5!!!! 25 minutes in... not bad... but there's 2 of us. The food better be good. Update #1. We ordered..... 30 minutes later still waiting on an appetizer. Make that 35... winner... we got it! Btw. Salad was decent. Update #2. Food is out right at an hour. There were bacon bits and uncooked mushrooms on my chicken. Had a fun visit here as we're exploring our new city. They have one of my favorite beers on tap so the evening started off right. Service was just OK. We got there and they were busy not sure if they were short handed or what but never was really clear who our server was. The spinach artichoke appetizer was delish. They use a fried pita chip and they were plentiful and tasty. I had the Cuban on the pretzel bun and it was a good sandwich. I think it could have had a better pickle presence but that's just me. The sandwich was hot you knew it was microwaved to melt the cheese and the meats weren't evenly distributed throughout the sandwich. But it was tasty. The fries were hand cut but they were a bit on the soggy side. Hubs ordered the boneless wings and they were obviously food supplier frozen and really not that great. I guess we thought that they would have hand breaded in house chicken wings but that would be a negative ghost rider. Overall a good visit. read more

Maybe it was because I was really hungry and consequently critical, but I will list the ways I was underwhelmed by this place: 1) The building is architecturally cool, a nice old building, but the acoustics were TERRIBLE. We came here to meet up with some new friends that we didn't know too well yet, but unfortunately we couldn't have a very quality conversation because we kept having to say "what?!" and repeat ourselves. We came around dinner time, and they had live music start at 8pm - so bad acoustics compounded by live entertainment = bad experience socially. We finished our food fast and left to go elsewhere. 2) We were seated at a table right by the staircase on the lower level. It was a busy avenue so that was a bummer itself. I can deal though and didn't complain. I'm sitting for about 30 seconds and there was an INSANE arctic blast under the table. It was frigid! I'm not an elderly woman, but I was freezing! I asked the waitress if we could move tables (I know that's annoying, but it was like sitting in a meat locker). Our waitress pretty much ignored my request, and told me to "put a menu on the vent" and that will take care of it. What the *+%#? There were open tables, now I'm irritated. I did slap a menu in the floor to cover the stream of subzero air, but it was still damn cold. After 10 minutes, and the onset of frostbite, I flagged down the hostess who kindly moved us to a new table. 3) Menu is average. Nothing really stood out as amazing. The portion sizes are pretty small for the price and nothing unique. I got the veggie wrap, which tasted good but it was extremely soggy and sitting in a pool of veggies juices getting more soggy. I had to use a knife and fork to eat a wrap. My hubby got a Cuban which was really small and not in the traditional hoagie style bun. Our friends shared the artichoke dip/pita chips, but the chip-to-dip ratio was way off and they had not enough dip. 4) The second waitress we had was nice and prompt with drinks. Can't say the same for the first gal. Spotty service? Overall, our bill was over $30 for two and we didn't enjoy ourselves. We wouldn't go back unless someone really wanted to go there with us. The live music wasn't good either. I'd avoid the City Grille. read more

I was expecting a lot more from this place than I got. I came here for my lunch break hoping for some good food and a place where I might be able to get a little work done. What I got was so-so food, an earfull about someone else's business, and sore knees. Since I was eating solo, I decided to sit at the bar. First bad decision. The bar stools were uncomfortable and cut into my legs while my knees were jammed into the front of the bar. I had to eat sitting sideways - which sucked for my already bad posture. I'm only 5'2". You won't believe how ridiculous the 6' man a few seats down looked. Second bad decision: wanting to take a working lunch. I brought my ipad so I could skim over a few things while I ate. Only to find out there was no wifi. I tried to work on my cell phone for a little bit before I got aggravated and decided it wasn't worth the frustration. What business doesn't have wifi these days? My final bad decision is what I ordered. I got the soup of the day (chili) for $1.99 and a chicken Caesar salad for $7.99. The chili was described by my server as "spicy." I would have called it "mildly spicy." Overall, the chili didn't impress me. Think Wendy's chili with more beans. Many more beans. Holy crap there were tons of beans in that tiny cup! The salad was a little better. I'm uber picky about the salad to dressing ratio and it was spot on. My complaint is that the way they cut their chicken and homemade croutons into cubes is exactly the same. Let me tell you, there's nothing more strange in your mouth to think you're biting into a crunchy crouton only to have your teeth sink in to a chewy piece of chicken meat. Seriously, I couldn't tell the difference between the chicken and the croutons. I had to poke it with my fork a few times to be sure. So during this luncheon of not getting any work done and a strange need to analyze my salad, my ears were attacked by gossip from another local owner and the owner of the City Grille. (I recognize her from the billboards around town. You know the ones. "Where friends collide." Ugh. Choose better words. No one wants to collide with their friends. Dictionary. Thesaurus. Use your resources!) Anyway- I won't go into detail about what they were talking about. It seemed private to the third party being talked about. Regardless, it wasn't something that should have been talked about behind the bar with patrons sitting in front of you. Service was pretty good. I was waited on by 3 different servers (the owner included) and it was apparent that this is what they do. Their attentiveness wasn't overbearing, and I got prompt service when I needed it. Note: So many beers on tap. Among them Blue Moon, Siberian Night Thirsty Dog, 419, Yuengling, New Belgium Fat Tire Ale. And there were more on the other side of the bar. I am glad I stumbled into this restaurant (by accident). It is located downtown in an old, but clean and neat, city building. My first experience as I walked in was the delicious scent of good food. For the location, it was better than i expected. Probably your best bar and grille option in Mansfield. Relatively basic menu but has all the options really. Nice interior and friendly staff but food was 2/5. Got a teriyaki grilled chicken wrap.. and I couldn't even eat it! It had so much sauce that the entire tortillas was soaked and puddle formed on my plate. Seriously a puddle of teriyaki. It felt like she only talked to us cause we were there and she had to. The wings were over cooked and burger was bland. We also ordered wine and I guess they had 2 cabs on their wine list so she didn't ask which we wanted and just brought it to the table (already open so felt compelled to take it). It was the house wine and it was TERRIBLE, she should have asked which of the 2 we wanted.
