My buddy and I were riding around town on my recent visit back home and I decided I wanted to eat here since it had been so long. My buddy got excited too because he loves the steak and cheese subs which is essentially a Philly cheesesteak . Off the top, my sandwich was decent but unless I'm misremembering it, the sandwich contents are a lot smaller than they used to be. The meatballs used to be so big that the sandwich was basically an open face with two giant meatballs and a large slab of cheese melted over it. The sandwich today had wall smaller meatballs which were consumed by the bread. The majority of it was bread with hardly any meat and the cheese was melted across the top. Still, it did what it was supposed to do; filled me up. This place does great business and I'm sure they have other good sandwiches but I doubt I'll be back. The meatball sub has always been a favorite of mine but todays meal seem to give credence to the adage that you can't go home again.

Definitely a 5 for the area it is in... those of us from central NC who make routine trips to our…read morelovely beaches are constantly looking for a different place to stop and have lunch that is around the midpoint of the drive, and not Smithfield's or Chick-Fil-A in Laurinburg. That is legitimately the simple truth of it all. There is not much along the route in general, and really your options for a food stop are limited to what you can find in the Rockingham or Laurinburg area. Getting something that is not fast food, takes a little bit of advanced planning and a significant roll of the dice. Thankfully we have Yelp to guide us. I found this simple lunch spot on the app before leaving Greensboro, and plugging it into our GPS, it simply required us taking one of the "old" routes through Rockingham and Hamlet. These days there is a highway bypass that totally avoids the traffic lights that cause delays in that area. We decided it was worth a 10 minute detour to get something else, and we chose Caleb's. A little hole in and old shopping center near the Wal-Mart. Honestly, wouldn't have it any other way. If a place can focus on the food and do it well, I don't need ambience. We started with some of their collard green egg rolls, and I like this choice for the menu. It's really not difficult to make an egg roll, and that crispy shell is one of life's most simple pleasures. The greens on the inside were tender and tasty, and we both enjoyed the sweet chili sauce dip. For lunch I went with their steak philly on texas toast with home chips. Given the price of the sandwich, I was happy with the size and the flavor, it was just enough to satiate me. The chips were nice and crispy, but both of us agreed they were exceptionally over-salted. The ranch dip helped (as did the remnants of the sweet chili sauce), but otherwise, it would have been too much salt. Price was very affordable, in reach for any local, and somewhat cheap by today's standard for those of us from out of town. Definitely a five star experience for what it is, where it is, and our time there. We'd stop on a future trip!

They were doing everything right, even down to the Dr Brown's, and they had ZERO flavors too. There is a meat and cheese counter,r but most of the length of the shop is pastries, cakes, pies, es and other beautiful-looking treats. We ordered our sandwiches; I had an Italian sub, and it was just ok, kind of dry and lacking in flavor; frankly, Jersey Mike's makes a better Italian. But my wife got theReubenn, and it was simply the best Reuben we've had outside of Katz in NYC. I order Rueben's all the time, and I'm consistently disappointed. Most are dried out, have too little meat, and the corned beef is often dry, but not in this case. The sandwich was truly worthy, and we are ready to go back and have it again. Moist, flavorful meat, a generous portion, and the dressing andkraut weres well balanced. The bread was grilled, not toasted, and was itself rich and flavorful. Altogether, it is a Reuben worth driving a distance to have it. We are already planning to come back and try some of the baked goods, but also get the Reuben again too.

Nice selection of menu items, and breakfast items are available all day. Unfortunately, these are offset by impressions of the food after two visits. Just not up to snuff. On the first visit, the Chicago dog was sub-par, but that was my partner's order and I don't remember the details. I just remember she said she wouldn't order it again. On today's visit, I ordered a meatball parm sandwich. It was cloyingly sweet - both the meatballs and the tomato sauce were unappetizing, and I could only manage to stand eating a bit of it. My partner ordered a side of corned beef hash. It turned up in a little paper tray with some dry shredded corned beef sprinkled on top of some home fry potatoes - just basic cubed potatoes and some beef shreds on top. That's it. It didn't feel like any corned beef hash we had ever seen. And we paid extra for a fried egg that didn't make it onto the dish. Of course when we pointed this out, it was quickly cooked up separately and brought to the table, so no problems again with the service or resolving the issue. Also be warned that Thursday nights from 6-8pm they run a music trivia game that blasts music loudly throughout the large dining space, completely surrounded by reflective surfaces. It was so loud and obnoxious that it made conversation impossible and drove us outside. I wish I could report a better experience. We need more quality delis around here!
