The best handmade , not frozen , burgers in North Carolina. I was visiting my sister and niece in Laurinburg for a week in March and wanted a good local burger. I read the great reviews of this place online , so I had to come see for myself. It's a small brick building on the side of Andrew Jackson Hwy in Laurel Hill. Small parking lot with plenty of business. They have a small indoor dining area that is a bar top facing the windows. A couple of picnic tables outside , which is where I ate mine. I got the Double Cheeseburger with Crinkle Cut Fries and a can of Pepsi. The burger patties were nice and thick and juicy. Hot and fresh tasting with lettuce and tomato. If you want a Traditional North Carolina Slaw Burger they can do that too. The Crinkle Cut Fries were hot , fresh , and tasty. I prefer Crinkle Cut or Steak Cut Fries , so this was a plus. The employees were also nice. They have so much other food to choose from. Bbq Pork Sandwiches , Burgers , Hot Dogs , Sausage Dogs , Corn Dogs , Fried Bologna Sandwich , Pimento Cheese Sandwich , Chicken Wings , Hamburger Steak Plate , Chicken Salad , Chicken Sandwich , Fried Okra , Fries , Onion Rings , Baked Beans , Green Beans , Slaw , and Mashed Potatoes , and more. I have driven by Mamie's hundreds of times going through Laurel Hill to/from the coast. I never stopped until now. Boy, have I been missing out. It's an unpretentious little place with classic burgers/dogs/chicken fare. The burgers are generous in size and cooked to perfection. Their onion rings are fresh and hand made. It's a little hole in the wall restaurant but don't let that fool you. Always a pleasant atmosphere. Seating inside and out but more room outside. Hands down, their food is amazing. I don't like hamburgers much but I will eat one from here. Family owned with a warm welcome. They usually have grape ice cream which, in my opinion, is absolutely amazing if that's your thing. Driving back to Charlotte from the beach and had to stop at this convenient drive-in off the highway. We ordered two cheeseburgers and two orders of fries. Burgers were delicious and juicy and did not leave us feeling awful after eating them. French fries were not overly greasy and the taste was fresh and scrumptious. They have a cute area with picnic tables and a ring game, which was perfect for us to eat at and hang out with the kids. Restrooms were clean and easily accessible. Mamie's has been a staple in my hometown for as long as I can remember. I haven't eaten here in years but I've heard my people bragging about it since it's came under new ownership so I figured I'd give it a try when I was in town. Came back to Laurel Hill for my yearly visit and decided to stop in here for lunch. Still the same size as I remembered; really small. A couple of places to eat inside but most of the locals just pick it up to go or eat outside if the weather's nice. It was a little chilly but I chose to eat outside today so I could watch the paint dry in my hometown. (Land of excitement) The food was great. Big ol', messy double cheeseburger and crinkle cut fries served in a red basket, just what you'd expect from a small town drive-in. I don't brag about Laurel Hill too often but this is the kind of place you like to stumble upon when traveling through small town America. This is a good little burger drive-in. Looks like most of the people that eat here are locals. We have driven past it multiple times when we pass through town and decided to give it a try. We had cheeseburgers and a large fry. I am a big fan of crinkle fries, so they get a bonus point for that. The burgers were good and the fries were hot. Everything needed a little seasoning, but everything was way better than going to Hardee's next door.
