Took a little road trip to North Carolina. We decided to grab a quick lunch from a local restaurant so we stopped at Smithfield's. I wanted to eat in so we went inside. Walking inside the restaurant it was large area for seating. The restaurant was clean and looked very nice. They had a large tv on the wall on the sports channel. They had a sink near the end of the counter so you could wash your hands. We ordered from the front counter there was a large readable menu above the person who took your order. They had a large selection of foods. I ordered shrimp and barbecue platter with two sides baked beans and potato salad which was a little bit too soupy. My husband ordered the chicken platter with two sides baked beans and coleslaw. You get hush puppies with every meal. I tasted the chicken and it was flavorful . My shrimp was good the barbecue was a little dry just added extra sauce. We had lemonade to drink and the staff members come to your table to get you refills . All in all it was a decent meal and it was very filling. If I was to go back I would go for the chicken. read more

This is the BEST chicken joint I've ever eaten at. We stop here on the way to and from the beach every. time. we. go. They are so clean, friendly, and quick. Whether you eat in or go through the drive-through it will be a 10/10 experience every time. I so wish there was one closer to home, but getting this treat when traveling will do for now. This particular Smithfield's is a great pit stop on the way to the beach! With clean bathrooms and decent food, it's a one stop shop. I got the BBQ plate with 2 sides and hushpuppies. I love their hushpuppies! The BBQ is fine, exactly what you would expect from fast food BBQ. I definitely add sauce to amp up the flavor a little bit. The slaw is good and the potato salad is fine. I've never tried their chicken but my husband ordered a chicken tender sandwich and liked it. It looked dry for my taste so maybe add some sauce if you get one. Their fried chicken is incredibly well-seasoned--so much so that it genuinely rivals the fried chicken my Southern grandmother used to make. And if you knew how amazing her cooking was, you'd know that's the highest compliment I could ever give. Now let's talk sweet tea. Smithfield's doesn't play games--they serve true Southern sweet tea. The kind that makes the taste buds in the back of your mouth twist up (in the best way possible). I don't buy sweet tea by the gallon from just anywhere, but I do here. The hush puppies? Unreal. I've made special trips just for hush puppies and sweet tea, and I regret nothing. And while I stand by my homemade banana pudding as the gold standard (sorry, it's just facts), Smithfield's version is really good--definitely worth saving room for. While dining in, staff walk from table to table asking if anyone needs a refill. The place was BUSY with 3 lines formed to order and a line at the bathroom. Both lines went by very quickly. Smithfield's is my favorite fast food chain restaurant. We don't have them in my hometown so I take advantage of the opportunity to eat at one when I pass one on the road. This place was jumping during Sunday lunch. They were observing social distancing so the number of seats was reduced. Every available seat was full. The drive thru was lined up. I got our order to-go and ate it in the car. Our barbecue was delicious! The place was spotless. The restroom was really clean. They have a 97.0 sanitation grade. The employees were wearing masks. They even have a hand washing sink in the dining room. I wish we had a Smithfield's in my town! read more

Geez Louise, their prices are ridiculous! We have stopped at this Smithfield's religiously on the way to and from the beach for years but that has come to a screeching halt. Stopped in today and ordered one of our usual, the Tender Snack. Three chicken strips and fries for $14.99!!! Now these are some mighty fine white meat chicken strips, but this price is W-A-Y too much to pay for what you get. Their BBQ plates and sandwiches have also increased in price to a point I'm not willing to pay no matter how good it is. Prices of chicken, oil, labor, and everything that goes into food have gone up, but this is the point where I start packing a peanut butter N' jelly sandwich when on the road. Be prepared to finance your next meal for a family. Smithfield's, I'll see you again if sanity ever returns to food prices. read more

I'm not impressed. Fried chicken is just barely okay. Wouldn't make me come back soon. In being fair, this was my 2nd time there. I did not like it the 1st time but decided to give them a second chance. There will not be a 3rd. AND....why on earth would any meal require a dozen hush puppies the size of sausages. Great Carolina Bar-b-cue and Chicken I grew up in Bennettsville , S.C. and now live in Las Vegas since 1991 . I came home to visit friends and family all over the Carolinas . I love all kinds of Bbq and tried many regions . For Pulled Pork it's got to be Carolina vinegar based . I was really impressed by the quality here since it is a chain . The flavor was perfect , with a little sweet slaw the sandwich was great and the soft bun was just right . The fries were hot , good , and they gave a generous amount . The sweet tea was good and not overly sweet , just right . The banana pudding was okay , nothing special but good and cold . The employees were very nice like they should be in the South . I've been to a few other places on my trip and unfortunately a lot of them could care less . The place was very clean and inviting . I went back a few days later to try the Chicken after seeing some ladies eating some a table over from me and it looked so good . Well , it was fantastic ! I really loved the Chicken Breast I had . It was juicy and the skin and batter they cooked it is was perfect . The best chicken I have had in a long time . We ordered a 30 piece tray for a funeral at our church. We were told that we would get a senior discount. It didn't happen. The breading was extremely greasy and most of it fell off before we ate it. This is not the quality of the food that we usually expect from Smithfield's. read more

I can only give 3 stars because of the wait in DT and the non southern hospitality of the young lady working the DT. Where do I begin. Mom and I stopped at Smithfield's after leaving Lowe's. Picked up some food for my aunt/ Mom's sister, who's bed ridden. We get to Smithfield's. Mom's raving about their hush puppies. How good they are. The DT menu side aren't that clear. I still swear that's Mac and cheese on the picture. Placing my order. 2 chicken kids meals. One with beans and the other coke slaw after a long discussion of the picture that's not Mac and cheese on the menu. I still don't know what it is. Oh well . I get around the corner and the worker is literally hanging out the window with a 10lbs bag of ice. He's talking to the customer in the car ahead of me. Looks like she's undecided about getting the ice. She slowly pulls up. I guess at her request...he tossed the 10lbs bag of ice through her back window. On to the seat. Then he turns and looks at me. I was like , I'm patiently waiting for the chicken. The non happy crew member, says did she pay for that ice. I just started laughing. If she didn't. It's gone. We get to the window, I ask the young man. Since I'm already paying extra, if I could switch my beans for hush puppies. Wheww...it was like passing a bill though congress. He went to ask the unhappy worker. She told him to go ask the manager. While she's clearly talking about my trade with someone else. She passes by the window. I wave to grab her attention. The guy had walked off to go find a manager. I just said to her what I said to the guy. She says snappingly, I have a dozen pups for you anyway. I just wanted the swap. Nothing free or extra. My moms laughing on the side- I don't know why. Later, I find out that she really loves these hush puppies. I pay and we're driving off. I wish I had stopped to take a picture of the road sign. It read, we're open. Serving you with Gratitude. I wasn't feeling that way today. I'm sure, I wasn't the only one. Needles to say. My aunt had no complaints of her kids snack box with cole slaw and sweet tea. I enjoyed my chicken leg. It was seasoned well. I didn't have to add salt or pepper. The baked beans were spicy. I didn't eat those. My mom however, sat quietly enjoying her hush puppies like a small kid who wasn't going to share. That was the highlight of my visit to Smithfield's. I haven't been to Carolina Beach in about 10 years and all the way there we kept seeing signs for this place so we stopped to try it on the way back by. It was open for inside dining but only with a few tables so we chose to sit inside. Didn't take long for our number to be called which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. This time I think its both. We got a bbq sammich and the 4 piece fried chicken and tea. Bbq sammich was one of the best I have ever had even though it had white slaw on it which all us Southerners know you just dont do but they did it and it was glorious! The fried chicken, just meh. It obviously wasnt fresh cause it came out way too fast and maybe fresh its good but honestly, I have had way better grocery store chicken. I will be back again for the bbq sammich but will pass on the chicken. We are so glad we tried it. read more

This is a regular stop for myself and many other folks from central North Carolina when they head to the beach, and it usually is very good about pleasing everyone. I've tried a lot of different things over the years, and even have a Smithfield's in my hometown now, here is the good and the bad. The fried chicken is some of the best you'll find, especially if they just pulled a hot batch out of the frier. Big pieces, crispy outside with lots of good seasoning. Definitely my favorite thing to get when we stop. The chicken tenders are also quite good, and of a large size. They even have a halfway decent fried shrimp platter. For my tastes the BBQ is only average. I'm not a huge fan of the eastern style Q, especially with the lack of any of that smokey flavor. Regardless of that, the Q here is usually nice and moist and the vinegar sauce helps it gain a nice kick. The BBQ sandwich, fries, and drink are your value meal here. As for sides, I think the potato salad, fries, and baked beans are the best of the bunch. The beans are particularly good, they have some of their pork bbq in them. Not a big fan of their slaw, it is too sweet for my tastes. The hushpuppies are fine, but mealier than most other pups I've had. The brunswick stew if pretty good but a little pricey. In general, fast and friendly service, and pretty good for a family fast food restaurant. Definitely one of the better places you can stop on your way to the beach. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. Was a good crowd but not packed. White meat chicken was not dry. I really enjoyed it. I also had baked beans and coleslaw. I do feel if I got my order to go I would receive a bigger portion of sides. When you dine in they give you a sectional styrofoam plate and the sections don't really hold that much. My only other oddities is they have a sink in the dining room so you can wash your hands without going into restroom which a unique concept but for me a little off putting. Most devastating of all was the awful, awful banana pudding, no bananas to be found, nila wafers that had all but disintegrated, and, artificial/chemical tasting pudding. What in the world???? How is it we go up and down the Carolina and I have yet to get bad food a Smithfield's! We came through town for church event and it ended late and picked this Smithfield's to eat. It was late 9pm and we ordered and the chicken and fries were fresh. Used their restroom before we hit the highway and the restrooms were clean and stocked. The young man polite and the kitchen staff seemed nice - no yelling at each other or attitudes as you see in fast food places. I'm just amazed we didn't get old greasy chicken. As we talked about it over our late dinner, we have never gotten any bad service or food at any Smithfield's franchises that we stopped in while traveling. Thank you for a great visit! read more

This is a very clean place. We stopped in here on Dec 24 th and enjoyed the fried chicken enough that we stopped again on our way home on the 27 th. I would say they have some of the best fried chicken around and their service is quite good. Right next door is chick filet lay and they do a bustling business just like them. read more
