What thieves. I forgot my ear pods before a flight and wanted to buy an inexpensive but ok pair. The lowest price ones were some brand I had never heard before. If they were ok I guess the high price of $24 was ok. I bought them and didn't expect them to be total crap. They sound terrible and are of very poor construction. They aren't worth $5 let alone the $24 they charged me. I got to Orange County and saw they sold decent Sonys for $15. I intended to return them when I got back. Well, read their return policy. They have a pretty decent selection of snack items. I was in need, during a layover, to get something for a 3.5 year old. They had a fruit/cheese/cracker kit that was fresh, so I grabbed that. I let the wee one pick out a sugary snack for afterwards. Yes the prices are steep, as in any airport. The clerk was friendly and we bid farewell. A few minutes later the same clerk, who located us nearby, approached us and told the wee one she left someone behind; handing her her stuffed pink poodle that was along for the ride (flights). That made someone very happy, as well as me knowing someone would go out of their way to perform a kind gesture such as that. I also realized I need to pay more attention myself. Located adjacent to San Jose Joe's, this small "news stand" is set up for travelers to pick up a good book or some snacks for their flight. Items are on the pricy side (duh, it's the airport) but you could pick up a bottle of water for about $5.50. They also sell gadgets for your electronics like chargers and headphones. Aside from books, there are newspapers, magazines, and cookbooks to choose from. I would only advise purchasing from here if it's an absolute dire need. You can get the same items once you leave the airport for much more reasonable prices. read more

So we were at the SJC airport getting ready to head back home after a Labor Day Weekend trip and my 15 year old comes to me with a watch he bought with his own birthday money. As you can imagine, he was very excited about his purchase from Hudson News. To be specific, it's the store in Terminal B. And the date was Tuesday, September 4, 2018. I noticed looking at this watch that the hands were not moving at all, so I told him that we should go and swap for a watch that's running. When we walked back to the display area, I noticed that none of the watches were running. "Okay, no big deal. We will just get home and I'll get a battery/activate the battery" or whatever. Little did I know what should have been a routine purchase with a small upgrade ended up being a complete bazaar in Bangkok style ripoff. First, the back would not come off of this watch until I took it to three jewelers and finally had one of them use a needle nosed vice grip to remove the back! I finally bought a replacement battery this morning and when I went to put the battery in - turned the watch over only to find the hands had fallen off the face of the watch!! TOTAL RIPOFF. Do not buy any merchandise from this store! And since we don't live in San Jose, our chances of getting any kind of a refund are near zero. read more

I don't know where they got the gentleman working the counter this morning in front of Gate A11 but he is an absolute gem. Personable, professional, and efficient. He made sure I found everything I needed and made sure I got out of there quickly so I could make my flight while simultaneously helping other customers! This is a standard airport convenience store. It is a lot larger than many of them - very expansive with a lot of stuff. They have a great selection of local teamwear at prices that I would expect to pay for sports merchandise. I saw Sharks, Earthquakes, Stanford, and Cal stuff. Probably the oddest thing ever for a local to do, but I picked up an Earthquakes travel coffee mug - to show my support going into the playoff season! Both of the women I encountered were really friendly. One of them who was stocking shelves greeted me and asked me if I needed any help. The cashier was friendly as well. read more

Yes, it's your run of the mill airport convenience store and I shouldn't expect much, but allow me to poop all over Hudson News - specifically the one near Gate 21. I came back from a trip and needed to exchange the nearly $40 headset I had purchased days earlier. I ended up not using them and saw no need to keep them around. The Apple replacement is cheaper! Anyhow, I went in and requested a return. The two girls behind the counter were the epitome of unprofessional. One was on the phone and the other was busy interacting with her. I guess they were on the phone with their boss. I get that this isn't your career but act right when a customer comes in. Fool around on your own time or when it's dead. The short asian girl, whose name I didn't catch, looked at my receipt and the product and says she can't do it and asks the boss on the phone. She goes on to ask me if I can wait 10 minutes. REALLY?! I reply no, I cannot wait ten minutes. She goes on to continue some bizarre, ditzy conversation with her boss and the other girl and then finally hangs up. I ask why she can't process this request and she's like yeah, you're gonna have to wait ten minutes, then bounces. Thanks for asking me then. At this point I stay on principle because WTH? Ten plus minutes later the "boss" comes in apologizes and within 1 minute the transaction is complete. Moral of the story - remember your headset. stick to buying magazines, junk food and drinks. This is about the Hudson at gate 22 by Una Mas. I walked in there around 10 p.m. greeting them with a hello and a smile. A heavy set Hawaiian looking guy and a middle eastern looking fellow were at the register doing something. Both of them looked up at me. No response from either one, plus a dirty look from the Hawaiian looking fellow. I got my bottle of water and went up to the register to pay for it.
