A massive area with playing fields, courts, benches, tables, restaurants, a playground, really anything you could ask for from any park, let alone a park in the city. Located adjacent to Pier 54, which is where the Titanic was supposed to dock, this is a great place to walk around and get lost for a while. Although there were games taking place on the fields, the area itself wasn't busy at all, maybe because of the light rain at the time, but will be on areas to go to again when I'm back in the city. read more

I came to Hudson River Park in order to go on a river tour done by Starship Tours. There are plenty of choices for river tours. The company I used took me on a river tour that let me sail under the Brooklyn Bridge, sail past the Statue of Liberty and let me see other sights. Keep in mind there is a lot of traffic going to this park due to the tours. If you book a tour leaving here, leave with a lot of extra time to spare or you will miss the sailing. read more

Came here the other night for a fun picnic and absolutely loved it! The park is gorgeous and there are tons of tables/chairs to sit on as well as places to lie down. Just be careful if you sit on the ground because there are a ton of dogs and a lot of dog poop on the grassy area. Besides that, this place is kept very well and tidy. One of the things I really do like is that this park has clean bathrooms, restaurants, and beautiful views of the skyline and river. Check out Pier 40 while you're here. Extending some 4-5 miles alongside the west side of Manhattan, Hudson River Park is the second largest park in the borough after Central Park. The park rungs through Lower Manhattan, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Midtown West and connects with both Riverside Park to the north and The Battery to the south. The park includes a number of tennis and soccer fields, batting ages, playgrounds, dog runs and has fantastic views of the Hudson and across the river to eastern New Jersey. It includes several of the North River piers along its length. We encountered the park just west of Chelsea Market on the way to Little Island park. There is at least this one spot at West 15th street with an open grass area, a number of tables and some shady spots for a picnic. Beautiful! Covering an extensive portion of the west side of Manhattan, this park offered a fair number of facilities, a breeze off the water, shade amongst the greenery, and connections to various water activities. Given how hard it is to find a bathroom in this city, the buildings here were notable for that respect alone, but I stayed a while and walked along the park for some time. It was much more my speed than Times Square, but still worthy of a visit. read more

Hudson River Park is pretty much the west coast of Manhattan. It runs from about Battery Park all the way to 59th. The main feature is the bike and jogging path. It has some nice views of New Jersey. Yes, there are some nice views of that. I have walked along the path awhile. It can get crowded so be careful. There's a few restrooms. Most are clean. They have lots of food vendors. Ignore these because they will rip you off. The path is a good place to get some exercise, for you and your pets. A lot of people walk their dogs. There's lots of free entertainment in the evenings like musicians. It also has some athletic areas along the path like baseball fields and some basketball courts. It also goes by the High Line. That one gets more crowded so try here to get more space. read more

One Summer day I decided to walk from my apartment across Central Park to the West Side. I began walking South down towards Hudson River Park starting around West 74th Street. I had a destination in mind. I was headed to Battery Park. Since it was early morning and clear skies I packed snacks and drinks to last the day. I have plenty of photos. I posted them at one time at the Yelp Page for each of the spots I visited that day. I stopped to photograph an Eleanor Roosevelt Sculpture in a Park, playgrounds, piers, ducks and more. I made my way to Chelsea Piers, I saw the location of the modern Whitney Museum. (I still need to go inside) I eventually ended up wandering my way to the battery. I don't remember the trip home!! Probably took the train. What a wonderful day and beautiful riverside park. I'm so glad someone had the forethought to create this recreational space. There's so much fun for residents in neighborhoods located adjacent to the park. It's cooler near the water on hot Summer Days too. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. My photos would tell you more of my story. I've got over 33,000 photos on my MacBook. When and if I find the ones from this day, I'll post them here. Just remember if you feel like a hike where you are not obstructed by traffic and intersections holding you up, take a long walk along Hudson River Park. The park is FREE! In typical SF techie style, one of my todos during my NYC stay was to visit the Google office above Chelsea Market. I could've taken the train from my hotel in Times Square - but why, when I can walk and see the city instead? A coworker recommended the piers for a nice quiet(!) walk in the city. I've had a lot on my mind lately, so I figured it was worth a shot. I've walked the Highline before, so I wanted to see something different - so I found the Hudson River Park on the map and set off on foot. I walked in the park from 44ish south to 14ish - it was a nice stroll. I enjoyed looking at the military vessels around the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum around Pier 84 and the small park around Pier 63. While I prefer the views walking along the Embarcardero in SF (my daily stroll back home), I appreciated how many benches there were all along the path. It was nice to see people from all walks of life - young and old, tourist and native, enjoying the walking path. I was also impressed by the well-demarcated bike path, which was separate from the road and the walking path. I actually bet the trail would be more fun on bike - something I'd like to try someday. I preferred the views from the Highline (and found it more pedestrian friendly, as some parts of the Hudson River Park trail go by industrial areas), but the Hudson River Park trail is longer and has little areas for people to rest. If I had more time, I would explore the other piers. It was definitely a nice change of pace to walk along the trail instead of down a busy city street. I can see why this trail is so highly rated by locals. read more

This is one of the best parks in the city in my opinion. It sits along the west side highway and there's a bike path that stretches all the way down to lower manhattan. You get amazing views of the lower manhattan skyline and overall a very clean park. On days when the weather is good there are many people out and about especially with dogs. There's tennis courts nearby but be warned the wait for those courts on the weekends is a long while. Its fairly quiet and peaceful in the evenings or after dusk. read more

Did you know this is the second largest park in Manhattan after Central Park? Well, did ya? I didn't think so because the 550 acres are stretched over close to five miles right next to the Hudson. Yep, it goes all the way from Battery Park to 59th Street. It's like the Chile of Manhattan, and it's yet another great way to explore the city while enjoying the view of New Jersey, mostly Jersey City and Hoboken. "Hoboken? Oooohhhh, I'm dyin'!" That's what Bugs Bunny screamed when he tried to take the little penguin in the top hat to the South Pole. But that's neither here nor there. It's mostly a series of pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths with piers rebuilt and repurposed with green space and playgrounds and the cleanest public restrooms this Left Coaster has ever seen. An urban park that stretches from Battery to all the way to 59th or 4 miles of Manhattan's west side shoreline. There are spots of greenery along the way but the main feature is the bike and jogging path. And some baseball fields and some basketball courts are near buy alone the way. There are a few restrooms if you dare. They don't have any food vendors due to COVID-19. The path is a good place to get some exercise, for you and your dog. I am so happy and grateful the Hudson River Park exists. After moving to Manhattan, I didn't know this was a thing for several months. I finally stumbled upon a path that took my down by the river. I was so excited to know there is a running/walking path. I have been running next to the Hudson River for months now, and I find it so relaxing. It's usually kept tidy and clean (overall). They've been doing some re-routing of bike traffic during some construction but the flow still works. I have yet to go all the way down to Battery Park on the trail but I hope to someday! read more

This is a nice option other than Central Park. Located on the west side - Hudson River Park starts at Chambers Street/Battery Park City and extends all the way up to 59th street. Pier 25 to Pier 99. They really did a lovely job transforming the west side. It used to be nothing ... and now there are a wide range of recreational activities for the people. There is a bike/rollerblading path near the street. If you don't have a bike- you can rent them from several Citi bike locations - one by chambers street and I saw one near Pier 40 . Think there is one by Chelsea as well. Try to obtain a free map of Hudson River Park. Has a comprehensive map all everything it has to offer.... I've seen dog runs, volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, miniature golf , skateboard park, soccer field , Chelsea Piers ( entertainment complex), piers to watch movies outside It is well maintained and clean! pretty flowers in bloom. Lots of benches. There is a "nature Boardwalk" in the TriBeCa section which is peaceful. Definitely a nice way to spend a relaxing day in NYC :) read more

Part deux of our "Picnic Friday" took place here. It's a wonderful area with calming sounds of the river splashing around the pier. We decided to find a spot at Pier 45 where we were not too far from the live jazz band that was playing. It's a nice family oriented park. There were picnics, couples engaging in not so friendly PDA, runners, kids laughing, and people lounging around. All in all everyone was making the best of whatever they were doing and who they were doing it with. Lawns are open year round. At one point some of the park goers started swing dancing as the free concert went on. Be careful of the bathrooms closing up for the night. I believe they close at 9pm or whenever the lights come on. The Hudson River Park Trust sponsors free events in the summer. read more

This would get five stars, except there's always a few spandex-clad Lance Armstrong wanna-bes who think they're riding the Tour de France in the most crowded parts of the path. And by saying they want to be like Lance Armstrong, I mean they want one testicle. Aside from that, this is a pleasure. Most of the users of the path (bikers, skaters, runners and walkers) share it pretty well and it's a pleasure to use. It can get very crowded in spots but often there are places where there's a little bit of room. As with any place in NYC, the tourists who find themselves on the path seem to think it's important to block the entire path to take some lame photo with New Jersey in the background. The best thing for me is that you can run a long way either north or south, it's flat, there is usually a nice breeze off the river and most of the year, there are places to stop for a water or something along the way. For me, the farther you go north, the calmer it is. read more

Well, I did say there's a reason I only go to the Hudson River on my bio: there's plenty of fish swimming around. Yes, you will find a lot of gays and drag queen gays in 5 inch heels, fuchsia lipstick, false lashies that are slipping off and flipping their weaves back, dressing to impress. Girl, don't you dare flirt with my man! Though I don't like the Chelsea area (because it is close to being suicidal with the cars and bikers), walking from Tribeca to the West Village is probably the best part. There are swarms of runners but hardly any annoying bikers like they have in the upper side of the park (Meatpacking/Chelsea & above). Even though everything is man-made, it is quite nice to take a stroll and there are plenty of seats around if you don't like to walk. The park, for the most part, is brimmed with planted trees with modern furniture that almost feels too artificial, kind of like Chicago's Millennium Park. Nevertheless, it is kid-friendly, athlete-friendly, biker-friendly, runner-friend--whatever you choose to do in the park, it will accommodate you. There's also a boat parked on a dock, which my friend claims is a "haunted ship," but was closed when I was around. There's a bit of everything in this park that screams out "WEST SIDE!" read more

I wouldn't call it a "park", mostly because the green space is limited (and so are the trees)... it's more a recreational area. Good place to chill ad sunbathe... the views of the Hudson River are very nice. Beyond crowded on weekends... watch out for rollerbladers and bikes out of their designated lanes. Wish I could rate higher than 5 stars. Somehow I didn't know this was here until we were at Chelsea market and my brother spotted it across the way. We thought we'd go see what it is and explore and I'm so glad we did. This is such a gorgeous park. We were there at dusk and walked around just marveling at the views. The park was fairly quiet, a little packed near the top of the hill but still very nice and a reprieve from the bustling streets and sidewalks. It was cleaner than I would've thought a park in ny would be. It's definitely worth it to go stroll around! read more

I was just wandering about and got pretty tired. I saw a beautiful park and I was like ohhh Let's go there!! to my boyfriend. When we entered I first spotted a cute set of colorful chairs and a table for kids. It's so adorable and of course there is the regular sized one as well. It really was breath-taking since it faced the river and the day I went it was warm and sunny and a little windy (not too much ) At the center of the park is a big grass area!! So cool!! I wanted to sit there but there were a few (not a lot it wasn't too much ppl when I was there which I liked) people laying there. But sitting on the chairs was nice too with the wind blowing and it was nice out. Great place to just sit and relax after eating or shopping about the area. What an awesome urban oasis! On a complimentary hotel map, I noticed the "running route" outlined going up and down what looked like the whole west "coast" of Manhattan. Walked over and discovered tons of bikers and joggers makin good use of a paved path that hugged the water. Beautiful views of the city, statue of liberty, jersey, millennium tower, etc. There were yoga classes going on in the park. Lots of dog walkers as well. It looked like you could take the path maybe 8+ miles, to battery park in the south and up to the upper west side. So glad I found this place. Always remember to pack the workout clothes! read more

Very nice spot of greenery and seating here in the park. I took advantage while I waited for someone to finish their business in one of the local consulates. There are bathrooms available and they were very clean on my last visit. Quite a few dog owners bring their dogs to the fenced dog run. I highly recommend this park if you like skylines and waterfronts! There's a great view of the NJ skyline, beautiful sunset shots, and a pier with grassy lawns to sit on. Perfect place for relaxing and catching up with friends. We walked west after getting an early dinner in Greenwich village. Before arriving to the spot of my photo below, there was a dog park!! We headed up north along the jogging path, appreciating the apple sculpture along the way. It's a great place to spend the afternoon, waiting for the sunset and watching the city turn dark. read more
