I don't often write reviews but I had to give it up for HRSC. This spot is a true hidden gem!!! It's in the cut and you can def. miss it if you aren't paying attention but what a spot. Free parking in the lot is a huge plus. The shop is pristine - cleanest barbershop I've walked into. The barber's are craftsmen - these folks take their art very seriously and it shows by the expressions on everyone's face when they leave with that fresh cut. Big shout out to my barber Mr. Viggs. He's one of those "measure twice - cut once" kinds who is attentive to detail and takes his time - ideal traits to have in your barber! Recently had a disappointing and uncomfortable experience at this establishment. I arrived just before my appointment time and was booked to be serviced by Dave. I was politely greeted by Marlon and I motioned to Dave (who was within close proximity to hear me) that I had an appt with him. Dave didn't acknowledge me or say anything so I just sat and waited. A little while later Marlon approached Dave to remind him that I was waiting. Dave then turned around and said that he was still servicing another customer and suggested I go with someone else. At that point I noticed Dave wearing a red MAGA hat which threw me for a loop. 1) because that hat tends to be quite polarizing and 2) Although I don't care about anyone's party affiliation, wearing garb with strong political statements in a business that serves an array of customers from all different races and backgrounds, imo is unprofessional. And so as an African-American, Dave's hat along with his icy disposition turned me off and I made the decision to go with a different barber, as Dave himself had advised because it was clear by that point he wasn't interested in servicing me anyway. I approached Jay and asked if he could do my hair, to which he agreed. While doing my hair Jay started complaining about my hairline being "too light". I have never in my life heard this from any of my barbers and now looking back at a previous yelp review, it seems as if this shop may have issues with tending to afro-textured hair? Anyway, as a result, Jay cut my hairline too far back. After Jay was done, he charged me $25 and I gave him $40, therefore I was owed back $15. However, Jay gave me back only $5 and kept $10 and went about his business. Now, an 18% tip of $25 would $4.50, so why he decided to keep the rest of my money I do not know, so I approached him again and asked him to give me back my full change and I gave him $5. The customer service I received was abysmal.. not to mention the pit bull roaming the shop. Just all around unprofessional. I will not be returning. read more

New to the area and finally found this barbershop online for my husband after several attempts at other shops in the area. Stay away from The Chain salons!!! With that said, I booked online for Romeo due to his positive Yelp reviews and thankfully for once my husband's hair looked amazing!!!!! He loved the haircut! Staff did not wear gloves. I was the only customer wearing a mask. None of the other customers wore any form of face covering! I felt unsafe and wanted to run away but by the time I noticed what was going on, my hair cutting had begun. The place was dirty. Nothing works in business if there's no ability to recover from mistakes. They happen, and a scheduling mistake occurred which left me fuming last week. BUT, after letting them know, I was ushered back in the very next week, got an outstanding cut from David- and was told the cut (and treatment) was on the house due to the difficulty with the schedule. Perfection isn't a realistic goal. Finding a way to fill in the gaps betwen here and there- making up for an oversight- that tells me all I need to know about a strong business. So I just moved from Astoria to Edgewater and needed a place I could trust for my haircut. THANK YOU YELP! I absolutely loved my experience at HRSC and I highly recommend making your next or first appointment with Romeo. The dude was super nice and knew exactly the kind of haircut I was looking for. After 3.5 years of going to the same place in the city, it was hard and nerve racking to find a new place I could trust and get the same quality cut I was getting from my last barber. Not only did I find my new barber moving forward, I also think they cut better than the last place I went too. To top it all off, I made an appointment for a more expensive haircut package, and Romeo noticed I didn't need to be charged so much for my type of haircut/style. So he ended up charging me less and saving me $15. Now that's an honest barber and business you have to stand up and respect. I feel many other places probably wouldn't have noticed and/or bothered to look out for me like that. Today, (Saturday July, 15th); I arrived at the barbershop at 9AM (under the wrong impression that that's when the barbershop opened; when in fact it opened at 10AM (my mistake for assuming they opened at the same time on the weekends, as they do on the weekdays). However, after waiting in the area for an hour and 13mins (they didn't actually open the shop until 10:13 as opposed to 10AM, sharp); I was greeted by the owner and he immediately asked if I had an appointment. I stated that I did not, but explained that I was under the impression that walk-ins are welcome (based upon their website and the conversation I had with an employee when I had called in earlier in the week when it was confirmed that "Walk-ins were welcome." Not too mention the fact that I had been waiting for the barbershop to open for an hour and 13mins... Next, I was made under the impression by the owner that he'd manage to accommodate me under the circumstances after his 10AM. Turns out, his 10AM wasn't in-fact his 10AM; it was a walk-in and his actual, 10AM walked-in while all of this was taking place. Then, the owner retracted his offering and made me aware that he would no longer be able to 'take care of me.' Then, I get passed along to a barber who said he would be able to fit me in his schedule (despite being fully booked). However, the catch was that it couldn't be a "Fade-haircut," because it would be to "Time-consuming" (mind you, its visible that my hairstyle requires a fade). So, why bother even wasting more of each other's time..? Last, but not least and sure enough; an hour and a half (by the time all was said and done) of my time, wasted! All the while, both, the owner and employee knew I was a new customer and could potentially become a reoccurring client... Comically, the employee (not the owner); hands me his business card and states that I can contact him directly on his cell-phone going forward to avoid a situation like this in the future. A 'decent gesture,' under the unfortunate circumstances, but POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL TOGETHER! Needless too say; I will NOT, be returning! read more

Tried this place out this past weekend. First off they are open Sundays which is huge. The place is nice. Clean. And modern. They do have a small parking lot. I imagine it gets packed on Saturdays with the surrounding stores as well but there is street parking. It's a bit pricey for a men's cut. They have different deals but I got the wash and cut for $40 but it is quality. My barber was David. We talked about what I wanted (the consultation) for a good 5 mins. Made sure he completely understood what I wanted. And he had great technique in his cutting style. I recommend him and I'm sure the other Barbers also have a skilled set of scissors too. Overall. The atmosphere. The cleanliness. The welcomeness and most of all the quality of the cut will have me going back. Even tho I live about 15-20 mins away. Defined try it out. read more

I had to stay in the area for the week on business and needed a haircut badly! Normally would go to the shop by my house, but for this week it wasn't an option. As a former barber.. I'm very careful about my hair. I walked in and the barber who gave me a cut was Drew. Drew is very professional and is probably one of the best barbers I've ever had/seen. He knew exactly how I wanted it (fade+blend+ shape up+ etc), To say the less, I have a very difficult haircut. My cut turned out great, and he knows how to use scissors.. correctly. Very terrible barbershop ! Do not recommend at all. Service was terrible and their time posted for closing is very much wrong .. I asked if they could give a me a hair cut when it was 3 pm, and the barber said "were closing after I'm done with this customer." But did not have a sign outside or anywhere around the barbershop saying that they were going to close 2 hours early. Why even have a open sign or anything. They could have at least posted a sign at the door. read more

I decided to check out this place because I got a gift certificate, and from the storefront, this place looked like an upscale establishment. My first impression walking in was a nice modern interior but there was also a large TV blasting ESPN. It felt more like a young chill spot for kids who care more about their hair and hanging out than getting work done. I can't see any professionals coming in here for a cut, it just wasn't the right atmosphere. My first bad taste started when the guy assigned to me was 15-20 minutes late, and he strolled in and took another 5-10 minutes to setup his station. He was polite while talking to me, but it was the session that made things worse. His smartphone was not on silent and while seating me and getting me ready, he got a personal phone call and was on the phone for a few minutes while I sat there with the neck tissue only, waiting for him. Throughout the haircut, I would hear constant phone notifications from him, and he would ALWAYS stop midway of his cut to answer his messages. He would even be as bold to turn my chair to face away from him while he chatted. In all of my previous experiences with barbers, they never turn my chair in circles just to avoid walking around me to cut my hair. The guys in this shop seem to be so lazy as to just spin the customers in circles. I was also extremely agitated listening to my guy talking to the other coworker about his vacation trip to Vegas and how much hotel bookings were. He got so into the conversation that he would stop his cut to finish his sentences. This guy must not have numb sensitivity because every time his buzzer came in contact with my head, it felt like he was jamming it into my skull. I was convinced he would cause bruising or bleeding. After the cut, even with the cape, my shirt was still the most itchy I've ever felt at any barber shops. I was upset during the entire experience from beginning to end and I would highly recommend AGAINST coming here. read more

This place is great! The staff are super friendly, there are large TVs playing espn and the entire shop is very clean. It is on the pricey side but you are definitely getting an upscale barbershop experience. As soon as I walked in and sat down for a cut I was offered a nice frosty beer. Can't beat that kind of service. Most important, they give you a damn good haircut. Perfect, really. Asian hair is very difficult to get right because of the fine texture but the guy who cut my hair (I believe his name was Daniel) knew what he was doing and executed perfectly. They also offer their own line of products, which I believe is branded Muk. It is also a little expensive, $25 for the hair fiber but it puts American Crew to shame. read more

Decided to try HRSC as my normal barber shop was not open. Made an 11:15 appointment and was not seated until 11:45. Thought I was going be paying $25 dollars. The barber told me to get a wash because "he liked to start with hair in its natural state", even though I informed that I had showered before coming. Low and behold when I go to check out my cut cost $40. All that being said did receive a very nice hair cut from Romeo. Still undecided if I would come back as the price is rather steep. read more

I called to get a custom shave on Sat before a wedding and they were able to fit me in just in time. I don't usually go for a custom shave but wanted to treat myself before this event - and I'm glad I did. I'd recommend you go if you want to spend time pampering yourself. The staff was awesome and the service was great! They shaped my chops better than I have ever done myself and the straight razor shave left my cheeks baby butt smooth. Definitely will repeat as is was a very enjoyable experience. If you are a shaved head guy try it because you'll love the treatment. read more

I've gotten my hair cut here by David about 5 times now and I've been 100% satisfied with the service and the environment. I've seen kids in the shop upon my third visit to the shop and the kids were playing NBA 2k14. Therefore, kids are pretty welcomed and accommodated in the shop as well as men are. The shop is owned by someone which is knowledgeable with street wear so there are Supreme things around the shop as well as KAWS statues and paintings. It's a great place to get your haircut. It might be pricey but it is most definitely worth the money. For the price, you get an excellent haircut, you get to talk amongst some cool guys, and talk about guy stuff; as you should in a barber shop. read more

If you run on a busy schedule go find a different place to get a cut. Made an appointment but still had to wait and ended up leaving without getting my haircut. They do fades proper but making me wait when I made an appointment is disrespect. You have to respect your client's schedules and maintain that professional atmosphere. And while I'm writing a review. I want to point out that the first time I got a cut, I had thought I was going to pay $25, but ended up paying $40. When you offer multiple services in different price ranges, you should communicate which services you plan to provide before picking up your scissors. Never going back, but maybe with this post HRSC will step up their game. Not trying to turn off customers from going, instead just trying to raise awareness with a business's flaws. read more

Best New Business in Edgewater !! First of all I can't tell you how much I love the color gray... this place has a gray brick wall!!! LOL.. Ok seriously this business should set the tone for how every barber shop should look. The decor is amazing modern clean and uber inviting!! The owner and the entire staff make you excited about your next visit. It's my sons first experience with an upscale barber shop and he loved it. When you arrive you are offered:. to hang coat, offered a refreshment, use of iPad, and most importantly services and prices are explained upon entering. Its all about service, ambiance, decor and professionalism as far as I'm concerned and this place exudes all that and then some. After all it is a "social club" not a traditional barber shop.
