I'm glad this local barber shop reopened on day 1, once allowed. I was curious to see how they'd be handling the "new normal". Here's an idea of what to expect until things change for the better: They aren't taking appointments but rather started implementing a pager system on a first come first serve basis. You'll need to wait in your car or outside (if you can bear the summer heat) but the pager only has about a 1 block radius. I'd imagine that as more of the neighborhood starts chopping off their quarantine mullets, it'll be easier to start making appointments but for now this is the way. As your allotted time gets closer, you'll be allowed to queue up inside but they blocked off half the seats to keep social distant. They want to minimize the number of people inside. Masks are required at all times and they have medical tape so that yours can stay on your face temporarily during the haircut without the elastic. And as it's always been, it's still cash only so plan accordingly. read more

I was on a road trip and needed a haircut and after searching for a place, opted to give this place a try. CASH ONLY - yeah bring cash to pay! Walk in and you get your temperature checked, was told to sit and wait. Then the assistant called me over and pointed to chair to sit. I got my cut from the older gentleman with long white hair. He took his time and did a fantastic job cutting my hair, it's been a while since I had a nice haircut. If I lived here, definitely would come back. $25 for a cut. read more

Mr. Lee, an elderly man with long white hair tied into a pony tail, did a great job cutting my teenage son's hair. He was meticulous in ensuring the haircut was even all around my son's head and that stray hairs were removed. Most clients are Korean. We are not. We are mixed Asian-African. Unlike in Western barber shops and hair salons where the person cutting your hair tries too hard to engage you in conversation and talks and gossips non-stop, Mr. Lee was/is a man of a few words or almost no words at all. I don't think they speak much English or maybe they don't speak any English at that barbershop. However, they did a great job cutting my son's hair. Please note, they don't accept b credit cards at all. Be prepared to pay cash only for services and tips at this barbershop. We paid 25 dollars and gave Mr. Lee a 5 dollar tip. read more

OLD school Did I mention the vibe is OLD here? Well, to make it easier ... here's a list. Pros - Very professional vibe. The guys who cut here aren't talkative, even if you speak Korean. They just aren't chatty AT ALL. - The guy who cuts well cuts very well. He does a great job of getting a sense of what you want and doing it just right. - They are very efficient here. No time is really wasted and even when there's a wait things move along fairly reasonably. It's not like they are shooting the shit and wasting time for those who wait. - The cuts here are super clean. They do a great job of keeping you and the place clean. - Reasonable $20 price for a standard haircut. Cons - Very inconsistent if you don't get the right barber. One guy in particular is not very good and barely makes a dent unless you press him, which is annoying. - This place looks/feels like an old Korean family's living room, thanks to the very dated furniture (if you like this kind of stuff, then it's a pro!). - If you don't speak Korean, it might require a little effort to communicate what you want if it's something complicated or special. Generally speaking I do like this place and have been coming here for a few months. But lately b/c of the inconsistencies based on the different barbers I get, I may check out some other options. Terrific haircut in a fine professional place. I'm going to return regularly. A minor language barrier but the manager can translate if you need specific communication with your barber in English. Nice touch: a soft piece of lambs wool or shearling to lay your glasses on. I knew I was in good hands when I saw that. At the beginning of the cut, my Korean barber gently clapped his hands once, and I took that as a signal like, "let's go!" Gui Gong Ja happens to be a barber shop that I'm highly satisfied when it comes to Fort Lee, maybe even northern NJ, it's a wonderful time going there to visit to get my haircuts, whether it's a 2 week touchup, a "middleman" 4 week trim, or a long term 6 week haircut. Manned by professionals who know how to handle hair of every caliber and with the proper tools, I know I'm in good hands whenever I'm in my hometown getting a haircut, and the price tag (20$ + whatever you'll do for gratuity, which is 5-7$ for me for a regular haircut), appeals to many out there, offering the stylings and luxuries offered in higher tier salons/barber shops at a price for everyone. It's been my on/off barber whenever I'm seeking a quality haircut in Fort Lee for nearly 3 years, further emboldening my look to ensure I'm credible and professional for my work/social life, and I love every moment of it! It features the usual amenities of a barber shop, such as a waiting lounge, tv, reading books/magazines/news articles, both in Korean/English. There's also storage/closets at the back of every chair for your personal belongings, if you don't want to leave it at the waiting lounge. As for the employees, other people's testimonials can speak the truth that there's a small language barrier (much easier for the Korean clientele visiting, iffy for others), but as long as you can be descriptive, offer visuals, and be as polite as a saint, you're golden! At the end of the day, I'm thrilled to be present to receive fine service and compensate in that. They're not the type of barbers who do "small talk", just focusing on their work, and in my opinion, that's also a testament of their dedication. When you trim a beard uneven twice, and a customer asks you to fix that, you don't switch to start working on your Korean friend that just walked in, and send the customer away by telling him " Get out, we are busy, get out" . When I first met the owner several years ago, he was poised and genuine in his dedication, an old-school barber. I am not sure if it's because the place has become a lot busier since then, but he's changed. Everything is move fast, outta my way, whereas in the past, he would spend a good half hour cutting your hair to perfection. His wife, the lady at the cashier, is not helpful to his purpose in that she bears the traits of a keen gold-digger. I once caught her berating a customer for not coughing up enough gratuity. I believe her ways of handling the place has demoted him from a devoted professional into an opportunist. Nowadays, I feel uncomfortable raising even the most basic request of cutting my hair shorter than usual. Ten minutes and done, and I will be out with large, uneven clumps in my hair. When my son about to having a hair cut and my son and I asked if we can change to a different channel for the TV right in front of him and the rude woman said NO and took the remote control away and said dont touch again in a mean way. After googling for barber for my 4 year old son I found this place because it had good reviews. I regret so much that I visit this place. I can assure everyone that all these reviews that they have are fake! First of all, they don't speak English at all and there is no way you can explain what you want. The barber nor the admin of the place didn't smile even a little bit. They looked like prison guards while working with kid. Although me and my wife were standing by the kid and trying to explain the barber what to do, he was looking at us with the expression on his face like don't teach me what to do. Place was extremely dirty and the the cover that they used to were dirty with hairs left on it from previous client. You can't even try to tell him something as he looks at you with angry face. Also, they don't accept cards and work with cash only for obvious reasons. I felt myself very discriminated here. Because they were very kind with people who talked their language but definitely not with those who are not one of them. His professional skills are terrible as well, because he left my kid in the middle explaining us with body language that he is not staying still. I went in to get my undercut freshened up and showed them a picture of how I wanted the fade. I finished and walked out with a tiny patch of grown out bleached hair still there and no visible fade.
