These were fantastic opportunities to interact with all of their animals, have a picnic, and basically enjoy the day with my children. So, not surprisingly, my daughter volunteered to help at some of their events (the farm is used to help those with developmental disabilities) and ultimately decided to have her 14th Birthday Party there on 8/2/15. This was, in my daughter's words, the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!! First, they have over 100 animals there ranging from camels to baby porcupines to monkeys. I don't know if it's because of their summer camp or the constant attention but the animals were all super sweet with the children. The kids fed them, picked them up, and I even fed a cracker to a camel with my mouth and got a kiss (highly recommend that). All this activity occurred around a central covered patio where the food and cake was served. They had storage for my party supplies, a fridge for the cake, and even supplied extra plates and extension cords that I had forgotten. But the absolutely best part our party at Country Ark Farm was the family that runs it. The owners themselves basically gave us free rein of the farm and provided two extremely sweet and knowledgeable young women to run the party, take care of our every need, and take us on a tour of the farm. These 2 ladies were incredible. They kept the party moving and anytime there was a lull, such as when some kids were done eating but others were still going at it, they would pull out some activity (face painting, bracelet making, water balloon fight) to keep the kids occupied. This was literally a stress free party. I would like to especially thank Rebecca for making the day such a success. She demonstrated both poise and grace in the face of over 20 kids, a family that came 45 minutes early, and an uninvited german shepherd one guest brought. You're the best!!!

We had a really bad experience for our first session and I pulled our dog out in the middle of it…read more I was actually surprised that no one on staff ever reached out about it. We used to bring our old dog there in 2018 and had an all around great experience, so this threw me for a loop. While we were waiting for the first therapist we saw the second water treatment therapist treat another human client (who was in the water treatment before us) disrespectfully and rudely; in addition, she was really rough with the elderly dog that came in before us. When it was our turn for water treatment (treadmill) the therapist took our dog inside the room and I told her from the door to make sure to take off her collar because it rusts and she was extremely rude in her response, saying loudly "get away from the door, you're not allowed in here". The front desk person ended up relaying my message to the therapist who said "everything comes off". Really bad attitude, but I still did not say anything. As she began the treatment I was watching through the window and she told me I could not watch and I told her I was not comfortable with that, as I would like to see what she is doing. After another minute she came out of the treadmill and opened the door to say that I could not watch because she has to create a rapport with the dog, at which point I said "OK forget it, this is not working, pull her out". What about creating a trusting rapport with the humans? The dogs cannot talk or consent, so it is all our responsibility to the best we can by them, and I felt that this was not a good situation. The largest difference between our previous experience and this one was communication - in 2018 the therapists went through EVERYTHING with us - from explaining why they were doing certain treatments and how they were isolating certain muscles, to showing us how to do certain treatments, as well as making us a part of those treatments, which was a benefit to us as well as our dog. We were able to bring that knowledge back home for PT at home and felt confident every step of the way. With this last experience, we did not feel confident at any point of the process - we were left in the dark from the very start of therapy and on top of that treated rudely by the very person who is supposed to be caring for our animal. It did not feel good. On top of everything, no one EVER addressed what had happened - I called numerous times and emailed as well (ALWAYS in a nice tone, I was hoping to rectify the situation and hoping this was a one time occurence - someone having a bad day). No one ever called me back or responded. So here we are.
