As a former "Dental Chihuahua"-I can't say enough good things about Dr Payami and his team at the Fishkill location. They were friendly, informative, and HIGHLY EFFICIENT during my tooth extraction! As I was telling my adult daughter; the entire procedure from first rinse to me walking out the door was only about 20 minutes long. The Dr is so skilled at the Novocaine injections that I was amazed. If you can hold it together for about 2 minutes-you'll be fully numb in no time. The procedure itself consisted of one minute of toughing it out while he did the actual pulling. No pain, just pressure and conquering my fear. I can do just about anything for one or two minutes. The rest was downhill from there. Drove myself home with no issues-as I stayed awake for the procedure. Would definitely make a point of coming back to Dr Payami and his team if the need arises in the future. read more

This is one of the most unprofessional organizations I have ever had the displeasure of speaking to. I have called their call center multiple times and was told by numerous different people that I would be able to have a consult and oral surgery on the same day. I just received a call from Carmela, who was trying to contact the doctor. I don't even know his name because it was never given to me!! But his nurse's name is Joanna. They told me that they overbooked my "consult day" because they were getting a new system and were extremely unhelpful and uninformative, and their call center or whoever I called three different times to confirm if the information that they were giving me was correct needs to be re-educated I canceled my appointment immediately because I wouldn't want to be Put in the care of people so unprofessional and unorganized. Quick & easy wisdom teeth extraction. Yes, you've read that right. I had to get my 2 remaining wisdom teeth extracted. Appointments are readily available and even though I had to reschedule, this office was very accommodating. Dr. Wiston is extremely thorough and informative prior to the surgery, after they take your X-rays. He goes over everything with the films right there, along with risks and then before you know it, you're literally whisked into the chair, your vein is found (I never have this quick and easy, so that especially made me happy) and next thing you know you're in the recovery room. I think I was in and out in like 40 minutes. You're in a twilight type of sedation, not completely out (at least I wasn't) but trust me, you don't have a care in the world (I don't even remember them giving me the novacaine shot, but I do remember yanking on the bottom tooth) and you're feeling quite niiiiice for several hours later. All of the staff here is personable and awesome, which makes the whole thing less harrowing than it would be otherwise. I ended up with a slight reaction to the antibiotic (Clyndamycin) so I called Dr. Wiston the next day and was able to discuss and then get another prescription. All good. No one wants to visit an oral surgeon, let's face it, but if you have to, Dr. Wiston is pretty awesome. read more

Went in for a consult at the Fishkill office and as I was leaving I asked if I owed anything for the visit in which I was told no I was covered by my insurance so I left. Today I get a bill for 125 dollars and that is after they received 230 from my insurance company for the visit. I had an emergency tooth extraction yesterday by Dr. Ira Payami. I just moved here from L.I. and was quite scared to start with a new Oral Surgeon I have never met. If I can give Dr. Ira Payami 10 Gold Stars I absolutely would! He made me feel, relaxed, and his bedside manner is one you don't see to much of today. As far as the surgery, afterwards, he told my husband to get the car and bring it in front of the building, Dr. Payami and a staff member walked me to the car to make sure I was in safely. Beware of this location, this office is possibly frauding insurance companies by overcharging them. I was referred here for a possible wisdom tooth removal, the tooth was already out. From the waiting room I had an x-ray done then I sat in the doctor's office, he came in, advised that the tooth can come out, they shot me with novocaine, he took pliers and pulled my tooth. Within 10 minutes I was out of the office. Fast forward a few months later I receive a bill from the office. They billed my insurance for an initial exam, the x-ray, and a SURGICAL extraction (coded as cutting gums and bone removal). I called the office to clarify and was told since "you're not a doctor you don't know" and when I said but I know I didn't have surgery the employee named Sue, told me "we use the same code for all procedures at this office, everything we do is surgery". I called my insurance to advise them and then the office lied to the insurance stating that everything that was billed for occurred, strange that I was in the office for 20 minutes total and left without stitches, medicine, or anything other than a note for work. I'd be wary of this office, most people do not do their due diligence and pay attention to what offices bill for. Be careful. All they had to do was be courteous and acknowledge and mistake in billing with me on the phone, instead, they chose to be rude and combative which now resulted in me putting a complaint against them with my insurance who will now investigate them for possible fraud. I brought my son into Hudson Valley Oral Surgery, PLLC in Newburgh for a clogged salivary gland. Before doing so, I called to make the appointment and verify that they would take his insurance (Delta Dental CDPHP). I was told that they do and made the appointment. I brought my son in for his appointment and gave them his insurance card. They made a copy and my son was seen. The dentist came in for all of 10 minutes...poked around in his mouth and said he would need sedation in an ambulatory center to have the clog removed. I was told they would need to get approval from the insurance company and they would be in touch in two weeks. Two weeks go by and I get a call from Hudson Valley Oral Surgery, PLLC telling me that my insurance denied the service. I couldn't believe it. He has excellent insurance and this was a necessity. After freaking out about what to do, I called them back and asked for a manager to explain more to me about what exactly wasn't covered. They put me on hold. When the woman returned to the phone, she said, "Your insurance won't pay for the service b/c we don't take your insurance." I was FLOORED. I asked her how this could be when I made the initial appointment and asked if they took his insurance-- I was told yes. When I went into the office for the visit, I gave them his insurance card-- and he was seen. Now my son waited 2 additional weeks to be told they don't take his insurance?!?!!? I found another dentist to do the procedure-- which, by the way, was done right in the office with a numbing agent, NOT an ambulatory surgical center under sedation-- and get this These people keep sending me bills for the initial visit in the amount of $360 after they screwed up and said they took his insurance but apparently didn't. So let's recap: I was told they took his insurance when they didn't and then charged for a less-than-10 minute appointment after their office staff messed up. When I called the office to try and get a manager on the phone, I was given the run around, put on hold several times, transferred to their Yorktown office and told there was nothing they could do, even though this was their staff's fault. I called several more times after each bill and asked to speak with the owner/dentist and was told "They don't take phone calls".... probably because their time and money is more valuable than mine. **Cue eye roll** And to top it off, now they've sent this frivolous BOGUS bill to a credit agency. HORRIBLE!!!The place absolutely sucks! I brought my son in to have an obviously loose tooth removed. It was the last of his baby teeth and they had his records from our dentist in New Paltz. They would not treat him unless they took XRAYS!!! I told them he did not need an X-ray since they had his prior XRAYS and dental records. They gave him the Xray after I told them no. One of the rudest doctors I have ever met. He came in after being 20 minutes late to the appointment. Proceeded to take a short glance at my x-rays and immediately concluded nothing was wrong. I told him that I was in a lot of pain. I told him there is a piece of bone sticking out near the back of my mouth. He told me that there was nothing he could do and to go home. I expressed fear and concern for the pain in my mouth, and he rolled his eyes! After this I decided to go back to my old oral surgeon even though he wasn't in network anymore. When I went to see him it was like night and day. He actually told there WAS something he could do to help me. He shaved down the bone a bit, gave me some antiseptic mouthwash to prevent infection, and said to call him if anything else came up. Bottom line, this experience was horrible. Went to the Fishkill office. The extraction itself was fine however, it was unsettling to me that almost every person I encountered seemed to have an attitude. After waiting for 45 minutes in the waiting room I politely asked how much longer so I could go walk around and make a call and the person whom I asked rudely reminded me I was a squeeze in (that was booked a full two weeks prior) before she answered my question. I didn't think my status as a "squeeze in" was really relevant to the situation and was surprised to be chided that way, as if a two week wait with an excruciatingly painful infected wisdom tooth was some sort of favor and I should be quiet (and grateful!) about a 45-60 minute wait in the office. Honestly the office wait wasn't so bad and I wasn't complaining, I was just trying to get a handle on my childcare situation, but being talked to like that was very annoying and set up the whole experience for me. When the smile-less nurse greeted me with a demand to remove my nose ring (in the hallway) I asked to use a mirror and she, seeming very annoyed, pointed down the hall to the bathroom but seemed curt and unhappy that I asked for extra accommodation. She gave me confusing instructions on where to put my bag and myself, and again, I got a look when I failed to comply because I didn't understand (she was much nicer to me when the Dr. was present). Before the dr came I was repeatedly told to put my phone by my bag, even though I was just looking at fb while I waited, I guess bc they have signs that patients aren't supposed to use their phones in the office for some reason (privacy is quoted but I was in a room by myself). The service itself was over $100 more than quoted. I was not allowed to keep my tooth, which honestly I know sounds weird in the first place but it's religious. I was given a very weak explanation that doesn't hold up--that it was a risk of passing on disease, which, #1) I am healthy and #2) you can quickly disinfect the tooth, they do it all the time when they have to send them to labs. Overall, I'm happy they were able to remove my tooth but I found it to be a an unwelcoming office, condescending and not patient-first at all. I'm actually quite pissed about spending the better part of $1000 to be treated like this. Sorry, guys. Next time I guess I will have to go to Westchester. read more

I was the driver for my friend who had an appointment to have 4 teeth extracted and he was having general anesthesia. He has extreme anxiety and he is also extremely difficult to numb sufficiently so he has to be put under to have procedures like this and this practice is where his primary dentist referred him to. It was awful! As requested, we arrived 1/2 hour prior to the appointment and after being checked in, having x-rays taken and going thru the medical questions, he was put into a room and told the dentist would be right in. Over an hour later, he walked out - not one person came back in - the staff, as well as the dentist, just continued to walk past the room back and forth going about their business but he was never ever attended to again. WHY WOULD A DENTIST'S OFFICE STAFF LEAVE A PATIENT WITH EXTREME DENTAL ANXIETY UNATTENDED AND WAITING ALONE FOR OVER AN HOUR? He repeatedly stated to them that he was getting frustrated and that he was going ready to leave if nobody was going to advise him of why there was such a delay but the 2 receptionists literally just looked at him and ignored his anxiousness. The staff continued to process, treat and work on incoming patients while a patient, who was already checked in and prepped for their procedure, sat and waited endlessly without care or treatment. Dr. Payami extracted all four of my wisdom teeth, and he was wonderful. If I were reviewing just him, he would get 5 stars. The front desk, however, leaves much to be desired. Each time I call, I've been put on hold for an extended period of time. I have been told that "the doctors do not talk to patients on the phone" and I would need an appointment to discuss anything. I was also told that I could not know anything about my medical record, because they are "not allowed to access the doctor's notes". While the doctor was great, their protocols definitely need to be adjusted. Oral surgery is anxiety-inducing for many people, and empathy goes a long way. EDIT: I received a bill in the mail and when I called to ask, I was told that the office never checked my insurance eligibility because I never asked them to. When I called to make my initial appointment, I was told that the office did accept my insurance and that the procedure would be covered. They said that my insurance company refused a portion of the claim. Upon speaking with my insurance company, they said this was not the case and they covered the procedure 100%. They did need a bit more information for anesthesia, but that was it. I was apologized to by the office after this. Just a forewarning to ensure that your procedure will be covered and to question any invoices. read more

Apparently they've gotten a new computer system and "have no idea what we're doing". The front window staff are literally yelling at each other and being completely disrespectful. One of them then asked me a question regarding my primary dentist with a quite aggressive tone in her voice as if she was annoyed by my presence. The women next to me waited an an hour and fifteen minutes for an X-ray. So far I've been in the waiting room for an hour. I can promise I will not be back to this office again. If my appointment wasn't time sensitive, I would have walked out by now like two of the other patients that had been waiting with me. I have to admit I was sort of shocked to read some of the reviews because myself, my daughter and my boyfriend had such a positive and professional experience. I had a tooth extracted years ago by Dr. Wiston in the Yorktown office and I remembered being treated very well and the Doctor was very professional so when my 17 year old daughter needed all 4 of her wisdom teeth out I felt very comfortable taking her back to Dr. Wiston. We went to the Fishkill office. This was back in August. The whole staff was amazing. My daughter was very nervous because she is young and had never had a procedure like this done before. 4 wisdom teeth at once is a big deal. She opted for sedation for the procedure. All the staff was so supportive and professional. They explained everything to both of us and made so much effort to relax her. After the procedure I was allowed to sit with her while she came out of sedation and 3 different nurses and Dr. Wiston stopped in to the bench area to see how she was doing and tell her how great she did. The nurse explained all the post surgical care throughly and also went over each medication they presribed. When she was ready they brought her to the car in a wheel chair. My daughter had no complications at all. My appointment with Dr. Wiston was mid-September and also a very positive experience. I had to have two back teeth extracted. One was broken very badly so very little tooth was above the gums. The second was a tooth with a broken crown and a fairly bad infection in the gums so these were going to be difficult teeth to remove. The nurses were very professional and first nurse escorted me back to get X-rays. After a brief wait I was taken to the dental room. I opted for local anesthetic because I am a little phobic about being put under sedation. A nurse came in and made polite conversation to relax me. Dr. Wiston then came in showed me my X-rays explained everything that would happen. He then numbed my gums and left briefly waiting for the novocaine to kick in. A nurse came in 2 times to see how I was doing. When Dr. Wiston came back I told him one of my teeth still had some feeling. He said no problem and gave me a little more novocaine. He and the nurses were so attentive. Remember these two teeth were in really bad shape so I was nervous. He promised it would be ok and I would only feel pressure and no pain. He kept his promise I did only feel pressure. Dr. Wiston talked me through the whole procedure and some how just hearing him explain step by step what he was doing made me calm. For someone who has had quite a bit of dental work in the past I could tell he was very experienced and knew exactly what he was doing. When he was done I couldn't believe how fast it was over. He told me I did great, his nurse came in and explained all post operative steps and all about the medications. They wanted me to sit for about ten minutes just to be sure I ok. I was fine. The doctor checked on me to make sure I was ok and then I left. I don't see how it could have been a better experience. I went home and I am a little sore but nothing to bad. Very unprofessional nurses (blonde haired skinny nurse with a lot of makeup on) Poor customer service Blame everything on you First patient there and discriminated me for not being white. They removed the wrong tooth. I was there today for an emergency tooth extraction. I got a referral from my dentist explaining that tooth #18 needed go be extracted immediately because I had been having pain for eleven days and the temporary filling, antibiotics and other medications did not stop the pain and because I couldn't wait any longer for a root canal,which would take about Two months for my insurance to approve/disapprove. They did the x-rays and everything, they didn't ask me what tooth was hurting,which I assumed was because they had everything on the referral, but they should've asked anyway to make sure. Dr. Winston comes in and explains to me that tooth #19 would need to be fixed as well, which I already knew, but I never said to extract it. Unfortunately, I signed everything without reading because I assumed they knew everything since they did not asked me anything not even if I was having any pain. They made me sign that I hadn't eaten anything for 8 hours when they knew I had had a soup and some coffee, this shows how unprofessional they are. When I got out of the clinic I realized they tooth #19 was removed and when I went back to the clinic and asked them why this had happened, a blonde haired nurse with a lot of makeup on gave me an attitude. When the doctor was telling me that this tooth needed to be removed in the future anyway and I said that I didn't go there for that tooth because that tooth was not giving me any problems and that on the referral it said tooth #18, she rolled her eyes at me and insinuated that what I was saying did not make sense She gave me an attitude for everything. I asked her to step out and to show some respect because she was making me feel discriminated. (She laughed when she showed me.all the papers I had signed giving consent of removing tooth 19t because she was trying to blame everything on me. They want to make you think that just because you signed everything and have consent it's you're fault. They were supposed to follow the referral, not what they though needed to be done. The doctor behaved professional at all times, but the nurse shouldn't be working there. She's going to be dealing with patients everyday and she can't be giving that attitude. The Dr. ust messed up by taking out the wrong tooth when there was a referral for a different tooth. After talking to the doctor for a while and the nurse next to us giving me attitude, I agreed on taking the other tooth out because it was hurting and I couldn't be with that pain anymore, they said they couldn't do it because they could not give me more sedation to make me fall asleep. They said they would request another referral for tooth #18, which would take 2/3 days for my insurance to approve/disapprove, which means that I will have to deal with the pain and a lost a tooth that was not bothering me. I asked for a copy of all the papers that I had signed and they did not give them to me. They said I was supposed to write a letter requesting them and when I contacted my dentist she said that they were supposed to give me a letter to sign and certify that I was requesting those documents. By the way, After my tooth got removed they did not tell me what I should or shouldn't eat, if I could or couldn't go to work. They did not tell me what medication would be prescribed to me or how long after I should it. The told me absolutely nothing !!!!!!! read more

I had a severely impacted wisdom tooth that Dr. Wiston extracted. I felt almost no pain and had zero complications. Dr. Wiston is highly competent, professional and takes the time to explain the situation. You also be done almost as soon as you walk in. I was referred to Hudson Valley Oral Surgery by my dentist. On top of waiting weeks for an appointment, from the moment I stepped into the office, the whole thing felt like a big mistake. I should have followed my instincts, turned around, and left. In my opinion the waiting room was dingy and depressing to the point of it feeling grungy. The energy level was chaotic, and there were so many barely twenty "nurses" everywhere that it looked like doctor's day at Hooters. Stacks of forms were pushed at me to sign. While I was in the examination chair, one of the Hooter girls smacked me in the teeth so many times with a steel vacuum wand that I snapped at her and told her to back off. Slamming people isn't my thing, but then again getting a $1000 bill for addressing a painful polyp on the roof of my mouth seemed pretty harsh. Even after "adjustments" (I don't understand crazy medical billing culture) my combined hands-on and lab costs were close to $500 - all for basically a shot of Novocain, a quick snip, and a cauterize zap. Then three weeks later, the polyp grew back. Thanks a lot. The office maxed out what they could readily get from my dental insurance, but they didn't tell me that they were out of my network for surgical and pathology services, which meant a big out of pocket payment, the money spent uselessly on deductibles. This practice is covered by my union dental plan. We have to drive over an hour to get there. Twice I went for extractions, one of which went beautifully and the other of which was a nightmare, resulting in a dry socket. That being said, the oral surgeon who did the first extraction is now a full time staff doctor there-- and HE IS FANTASTIC. He should have 6 stars. His name is Dr Payami, both an oral surgeon and an MD. My husband is a late stage cancer patient with a complicated set of variables for any dental work. Dr Payami was thoroughly familiar with the necessary cautions and appropriate risks needed to treat a person with my husband's profile. i would unhesitatingly recommend this man to anyone. read more

My son needed four wisdom teeth extracted and the whole staff was helpful by answering all of our questions at the consultation and on surgery day.
