Some of the lower reviews are about front of the office staff, which I vaguely recall being a bit gruff, 10+ years ago but everyone the past few years have been lovely. I have had two root canals (hey I'm 40 such is life) and one was done excellently by Dr. Chris during 2020 in COVID. He did a great job relieving the pain I had been in for a few months. I've always experienced exceptional care and kindness in my experiences there after seeking a trauma informed dentist for my child. I have PTSD and have experienced ongoing hardship... seeing my child fearful in a dentist office is enough to trigger me which prompted me Eli seek and find this provider in the first place. Not long ago, I had temporarily lost my insurance due to a job change and had little recourse but to ensure the most rigid of dental routines at home till I could get back in the office as soon as I had insurance again. After missing some check ups, last week we had an awesome visit... My daughter's oral hygiene was complemented by the doctor and hygienist - both were surprised at the degree of high level maintenance we ensured without scheduled cleanings. A reapplication of sealant was recommended (which I'm an advocate for), and we set an appointment for next week. At the time I was told all would be covered by my insurance. Today, someone named Cindy was calling to let me know my dental coverage provider deemed sealants for a patient my daughter's age medically unnecessary and that there'd be an out of pocket expense that would be at a reduced cost of $300. Before deciding to pay hundreds out of pocket, I asked Cindy to please verify whether or not there is a medical need for this treatment before expensing funds that are needed for other basic necessities at the moment. Upon her return call she left a message asking me to call back instead of simply responding to the inquiry. I stopped my day to return the call only to have her begin to reiterate the preventative concern that was previously discussed. I confirmed my understanding of the previously relayed content and that my need was to understand if there was a current medical necessity that needed to be addressed... as that is unfortunately the reality of how I need to prioritize expenses at the moment. After expressing the concern, I was sternly and literally told "... well I'm going to have to write that down." . Somewhat taken aback, I said I'm not sure what that means and was told the annotation is to document my choosing not to follow to this recommendation... the tone with which it was said was not only unkind, but in my opinion conveyed an implication of negligent disregard on my part. I cannot fathom the purpose of such a comment. Based off the concern evoked by her response, I again indicated I want to ensure I have a clear understanding that we are all in agreement that upon evidence and evaluation that there are no cavities to be addressed... only to be told that if I "want it addressed as a cavity that can be done"... Baffled, I was honest and said I don't understand what that means either (mitigating increasing anxiety at this point)... I was then told that I could have my daughters teeth drilled as though there were cavities... have a filling done to reduce surface crevices and then sealed afterwards. I was quite shocked. My child has impeccable dental hygiene because she's fearful of even the sound of a dental drill and I took her there to ensure such a positive experience that she'd be motivated to exact good habits, thus eliminating any future need for the drills she fears. After being made uncomfortable by the terse exchange I declined further engagement. I still have a return visit in six months because I love the team that provides actual care and the Dr. has thus far been someone I trust... but this experience left me feeling unsure of how that will go and I'm concerned by being treated as though I'd done something wrong. As a single parent, in this economy, with a disability, no support and endless challenges to mitigate...dispensable income is non existent. The caller seemed very out of touch with this reality faced by so many and made me feel bad and borderline negligent in the manner in which she chose to address me and my honesty regarding my finances... I'm hoping it was just a bad day (which we all have)... but I could sure do without the negativity and non verbal indicators judgement that trauma survivors are hyper aware of in general but especially in the course of my work day. This persons communication style and demeanor are not reflective of what drew us to their care in first place and I'm hoping it's not pervasive in other areas of the business when we return.

I cannot speak highly enough about the level of professionalism, compassion, and kindness we received from this dentist today my son had an Abscess on his front tooth that had to be removed, they had to numb the tooth and pull it. That's after they had to have a cavity filled. I don't know if anybody else has children that are terrified of dentists but his doctor put on a local anesthetic to numb the gums then with whatever amazing needle like device they used, they proceeded to remove the tooth and my son did not cry or scream, and was not bothered in any way whatsoever. I've never witnessed anything like that in pediatric dentistry. These dentists have always been amazing since we've been going there, but I feel today was there Magnus opus they are perfect mix of artist, scientist, dentist, and Wizard and that is the only way I can explain it. If you have kids that are afraid of dentist bring them here from their standard cartoon videos on the ceiling to the well described, locked toy chest. They can only open once they've successful completed their procedure. I almost feel that there are as much psychologists as they are dentist. Bring your difficult kids here you will not regret it I promise.

I am sharing this story in the hopes it prevents someone else from experiencing the same scenario I…read moredid. I had an insurance change and Dr. Kowal was in in-network for both me and my wife. I found a couple reviews online and all were positive. I decided to give her a try. The office staff are all very nice and the environment is clean and presentable. Dr. Kowal did 4 fillings for me; 2 on top and 2 on bottom. All fillings were between teeth. She tends to rush into the exam room, operate quickly and then leave quickly. She was not very sensitive or gentle while working on my teeth. A couple times I had to ask her to stop because she had her hands pressed on my face while operating and it was uncomfortable. I've been going to dentists all my life and never experienced this before. I've had root canals, wisdom teeth pulled, etc. Immediately following my bottom fillings I was experiencing sensitivity to any temperature of fluid. I called the office and her staff advised me sometimes fillings can take 4-6 weeks to stop being sensitive. I waited a total of 7-weeks, having no use of the left side of my mouth the entire time. I've never had a problem with a tooth healing slowly in the past and I have had fillings and root canals done by other providers. If it were just hot/cold I would have wrote it off as the tooth needing a root canal but even room temperature water was sensitive to the tooth. I went back to Dr. Kowal who offered to do a sedative filling. I asked her to take a new x-ray and examine the current filling for any issues as the sensitivity didn't feel normal. She did the new x-ray and said everything looked fine. I stated I wanted a second opinion and took my new x-ray to my original provider (who is now out of network). My original provider immediately identified 2 issues with Dr. Kowal's filling and later a third issue: First, the filling was not closed on the bottom which allowed liquid to go into the nerve area. Second, the filling was loose; also explains the extreme sensitivity. Third, the cavity was not completely cleaned out and would have had to either be re-done or would've turned into a root canal in time. Two days after my original provider re-did the filling I was feeling significantly better and experiencing little zero sensitivity. My top filling is now also having the same issue. My bottom filling turned into a root canal due to having to be fixed so many times. My top filling is likely going to be a root canal as well. What should have been 2 standard fillings turned into 2 root canals, months of tooth pain and hundreds of dollars spent on crowns due to sloppy work. Just to further confirm my suspicions, my previous provider closely monitors teeth that might be developing a cavity and he said none of the teeth Dr. Kowal worked on showed any signs of a cavity. I refuse to believe in the 6-months between visits I developed 4 cavities. I am concluding Dr. Kowal worked on teeth that did not need fillings and performed sloppy work. Based on this I would NEVER use Dr. Kowal again. UPDATE::: 7/7/16 I have since learned that the teeth Dr. Kowal worked on were marked by my previous provider as going to need fillings in the future. I had previously made the assumption Dr. Kowal worked on teeth that did not need them. That is inaccurate. I still stand by my comments that she is not gentle enough during exams and procedures and the fact that one of my fillings was done very poorly, having multiple issues. I still would not use her again nor would I recommend her.

The permanent retainer hurts my tongue and there suggestion of wearing my "night guard" during the day is ridiculous. As well, a new tooth has begun to shift back to its original place as the night guard does nothing to protect it. A third tooth has now shifted and is causing a dental issue that needs to be addressed. Pachter took a good chunk of money from me, promised results when the results weren't delivered pushed it on me for not doing things correctly and then on the program not being able to predict patterns and having to be adjusted to just not helping at all because I signed that I accepted treatment was over. Be very aware of stubborn teeth, future results and discrepancies in the treatment plan and do not be guilted into having them recreate trays or replace attachments that they prematurely take off. Had Pachter not attempted to avoid losing money because the computer didn't predict the way my teeth would move, perhaps my smile would not be reverted back to the place it was when I first saw them. Had they took the time to re-assess as well as not cared what it would cost them to fix the issue after I paid for their service, I may have turned out like the other success stories. Be aware as your teeth can place you into the same position I am in. For your sake I hope not, but if you are considering using them - find a different practitioner as they are not about the end result and success of all patients.

As I was telling my adult daughter; the entire procedure from first rinse to me walking out the door was only about 20 minutes long. The Dr is so skilled at the Novocaine injections that I was amazed. If you can hold it together for about 2 minutes-you'll be fully numb in no time. The procedure itself consisted of one minute of toughing it out while he did the actual pulling. No pain, just pressure and conquering my fear. I can do just about anything for one or two minutes. The rest was downhill from there. Drove myself home with no issues-as I stayed awake for the procedure. Would definitely make a point of coming back to Dr Payami and his team if the need arises in the future.
