About seven years ago my wife and I purchased a beautiful leather sofa bed at Ethan Allan's…read morefurniture store in Garden City NY. To write it is a high end sofa would be an accurate description so you can imaging our surprise when we heard a snap when I sat on the sofa. I pull the bed mechanism out and I could see a metal rod, in the rear was broken. I called Ethan Allan and received a list of their recommended repair companies. All companies are independent but they are Allan recommended (They are familiar with the Allan products). I called the two companies here on Long Island and got machines at both. I called Furniture Repair in 845 area code...up state NY and actually spoke to a human being. I explained my dilemma, and was told to take a picture of the break and e mail it to them. Okay, done and done. She called back and told me the cost for the repair was going to be $400. Bottom line. The sofa was expensive so I knew the repair was not going to be an easy fix. I was given a date for repair and when that day came I was expecting a repairman to arrive with the rod/part. Not so. I met Craig and his assistant James as they were removing a LARGE box from the rear of their delivery truck. What the ??? I watch James open the box and I could see what appeared to be the entire sofa-bed mechanism. I told Craig there must be some mistake. I just need the lower rod replaced. He told me they used to weld that part but it always snapped again so this was the only way to do that repair properly. Now I'm not happy with this news. The sofa cost about $ 4500. I'm doing quick math and estimate the cost for the primary part of the bed to be at least $1500-2000. Craig...I was told the cost for this repair would be a total of $400. Yes, that's right. $400. $400 for the part, the delivery and your repair... That's right. As I watched Craig and James take the entire sofa mechanism into my home I began to come out of shock. This is impossible. My wife and I watch them work like a well oiled machine, no doubt this was not their first rodeo. It took them less then 30 minutes to removed the defective part.and replace it with the new. They even replaced all cushions. There's nothing more I can write, oh maybe one more important fact: prior to this service call I have never even heard of the Furniture Repair company. My review is unsolicited but I want everyone in need of just about any furniture repair to consider Furniture Repair, Reupholstery & Refinishing. They arrived during the time frame I was given & put booties over their shoes before entering my home. They spent about 1.5 hr working on my wall unit, & cleaned up any mess they made. They did a very professional job, can't even tell it had been taken apart! I highly recomend Furniture Repair Services!

Although I just started volunteering as a receptionist at this location just the other day, I do…read moreknow a lot about this place and would like to share this information with all of you. If you know a little about the ARC, come by and volunteer. Most of this office's opportunities are volunteer only(although most are field-work spots), you pretty much help out at other places, but this is a large regional office for the newly-combined Dutchess and Ulster Co. branches. (There are some paid spots within the office, but for the most part, most of the office is volunteer work. These spots tend to be the "director-level/executive level spots for paid spots, but it all depends on the situation.) This location does take donations, however clothes are not acceptable donations at this location(an ARC location in Maryland does this). If you're not sure, call this location and find out. Money(checks and cash), and MoneyGram donations are accepted, as well as supplies such as water and the like, are also accepted here. Drop it by. You'll get a tax-donation receipt for any monetary donation you can give. The American Red Cross needs your help in any way you can. You might even benefit yourself, if you have lost something due to natural disasters(or need help looking for someone, even someone who is in the military). Also at this location, they have a transport ERV(Emergency Response Vehicle) that provides the supplies to needy emergencies, based on other factors which I'm not going to get into here. Another thing they have at this location is a blood donation center, which is open every day that the main location is open. Come to the front door(nearest the parked ERV-and up the few stairs), sign in to the guestbook(and later sign-out) and give some blood.
