I needed work done on some trees for a property I was managing. I was visiting, unfamiliar with the area, and was shopping blind on a Saturday while calling tree contractors with reasonably good reviews. So I was not surprised to find myself leaving messages on voicemail and with messaging services. But I was surprised to get a return call from Mike Hufnagel while I was still reaching out to other tree service companies. And, I was even more surprised when he said he could drop by in a few minutes to take a look at my project. Personable and professional Mike gave me an estimate that was in line with tree work I've had done on other properties. He said about two weeks before he could get to the job, which was fine, but would he send me pictures of the finished job because I was leaving town in a few days. No problem, he said, and we shook hands on the deal. Imagine my further surprise - delight really - when on Monday, the day after we agreed to terms, Mike shows up with his crew to say he had an opening in his schedule. Gotta love working with the owner of the company, and who hustles. Mike and his crew made quick and thorough work of the job, took all the trimmings with them and cleaned the site as if they had never been there. One last item: Safety. Mike clearly respects the inherent dangers of his profession. I recently used Hufnagel Tree Service and had an excellent experience. We just moved to Tinton Falls and wanted to get 4 trees and a low lying branch removed along with the stump grinding. I called so many companies and no one returned my calls or no showed our appointment. I called Hufnagel Tree Service and immediately received a call back from Tyler. He was professional, friendly and prompt. We scheduled an appointment for a quote within a couple of days. The day of our appointment Tyler called to confirm he was on his way and provided a reasonable work for the work we requested. Tyler set great expectations on timing of when the work would be done and they were able to do the work earlier than anticipated. When I got home from work I couldn't believe how great it all came out. They left my property in pristine condition and it was exactly what I was expecting. The crew came out today and trimmed the trees between us and our neighbors and did a phenomenal job. They went up right along the fence line to the top of the trees. Living in our house for 18 years, we have had the same service done by other companies and they just cut back some, leaving me feeling they wanted to come back sooner. We used Huffnagel Tree Service a few times and were satisfied until last spring (2021). The estimate we were quoted was NOT what we paid when the job was done - it was way over the "verbal" estimate of $2,200. It was part our fault we never got anything in writing prior to the job being done but as repeat customers we trusted them. Shocked when the job was done and ended up paying over $3,000. The stakes (if you would call them that) they used to stake our trees were something they found in the woods - pieces of a log (looked awful & unprofessional), they hammered them into the ground so far that we needed to use a chainsaw to remove them. I asked Mike Huffnagel for an itemized paid receipt and as of today (May 2022) I never received one. Unfortunately, they will never get our business again and I would recommend customers to look for another tree service that is honest and not take advantage of a customer. Or get it in writing or you will get ripped off! read more

Michael and his workers, were very proficient in what they set out to do. He removed a nice size tree from the front of my house..He also did all the grinding work to the stump of the tree. Some minor work too, cut tree overhang that was on top of my house roof. I will definitely recommend Michael and his co-workers. We hired this company to cut down two trees and prune 6 cherry trees. They showed up when we were not home and began to prune trees. They butchered our beautiful 30 year old cherry trees. They took all the foliage and large branches off the tree up 15 feet. They don't even look like cherry trees anymore. We have top foliage and nothing else. Thank God I got home after 3 trees were done or all would be lost. I've lost all my privacy into my neighbors yard. I have cried for 3 days, our beautiful trees were butchered. read more

Called to get an estimate for 2 trees cut down and stumps grinded. Mike came and told me he would have to take down part of my neighbors fence and the estimate was for $3200.00. I then called another company for an estimate. They came and said they didn't need to take down the fence and their estimate was for $900.00. They came back and did a great job.
