HughesNet speed was acceptable though slower than most ISPs. I paid $90 a month for internet access only. Unlike most ISPs, if the service fails and they have to send out service personnel, they asked for $100 per visit. After a full year with the service, I moved but was charged an unreasonable early termination fee of $265. Approximately a couple of times a month during that period, there were significant outages of as long as a day. Every time it rains, you can count on at least several hours of no internet. The company offers no discount for time missed like that. HughesNet will not likely be the only option in rural areas. Hughes connection is awful. They made a mess installing and never cleaned up. In returning the modem etc you must climb the roof to take radio off the enormous disc, using 3 different tools- one to cut the cable. After suffering the hated interactions and wasted time with Comcast, I thought I would try HughesNet Satelite Internet service. I wont go into a long drawn out explanation of why this turned out to be a scam as well, but after looking over their services on their web site and deciding to give it a try, I bought over $500 worth the equipment needed to set up this service, (I did not want to lease the stuff from them in case I had to cut them off) sure enough after 2 months and several complaints for slow service, as I could not even watch a simple Youtube video without sucking up all my alotted bandwidth data allowance for the month. If you go over the alloted bandwidth use, you get "Bonus Time" that kicks in between 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM where you can use extra bandwith, Ok - Who's Up at 2:00 AM watching anything ??, Completely useless Any time you sign up with them it's a 2 year deal even though you hate the service, fight over the phone with them over it, they still try and charge you a Penalty fee to get away from them. The only way to cut them loose is to tell your credit card company to not honor any charges from HughesNet, The average internet bill with added "Tokens" at $16.00 per Gig extra is about $130 per month for horrible useless service. Don't even think of signing up with HughesNet - Go to Verizon instead, I signed up with them and have not had any problems, service is Lightning Fast with no complaints. read more

Worst Internet service ever. My grandfather signed up for their service last month. I had to use my card so that he could sign up, they told us that the card would be saved on file. Negative Stars! They are liars and scammers! I was on the phone for an hour trying to set up installation and was told that they needed my cc number but it wouldn't get charged until the installation was complete I questioned this 3 times and was told 3 times that it would not be charged until installation was done, so I set up a time and planned to put the cash in the bank the following day which would have been a Thursday and installation was scheduled for Friday. Liars! They charged my card the same night I set up the installation date. I called to question this and was told that no the card gets charged when installation appt was set up. I told them to cancel as I didn't trust a company that lied to me before I was an active customer. Then that became an issue because I gave them my boyfriends name as the adult that would be here for setup and the asshole that set everything up put the account in his name and since they fucked it up by having it in his name I couldn't cancel it I fought them for half an hour and finally had to call my boyfriend at work and have him waste half an hour to finally get it cancelled. Zero Stars. Run, run, run, run! Hughes Net has terrible service. No streaming at all is possible in rural areas. Not even music. I tried increasing my data 2 months before my contract ended. It did not work. Tokens don't work either. I cancelled my data increase within 24 hours. It is a federal law that you can do this. When you enter into a contract you can cancel within 72 hours. Did I mention it's a Federal Law? It's called a cooling off period. Yet HughesNet said they have no clue about the law. They still made me pay for another year. 3 years of paying and all we could do was search the net. It was a very expensive net search when I have unlimited data on my phone. Even the tech guys said that their equipment was not up to standards for streaming. So now my contract is up on Oct 31, and I have paid for October. They charged me a $30.00 EARLY termination fee. but I did not terminate early. That $30.00 fee is going to cost them tons because this review will be all over the net. I'm not wasting any time. I've already seen many people asking about HughesNet on FB this morning and I steered them to my new internet service. Hope the $30 was really needed and used wisely HughesNet. Oh and the lady said they have no dispute department when I was in the phone yesterday. She has no manager either. She told me that "SHE IS THE ACCOUNT MANAGER"!!!!!! If I could give a zero stars I would. I signed up for this service back in December and have never had more than 700 to 800 kbps ever and every call I have with their tech wizards takes an hour or more to get no where. I took several business days to have a network level technician get back to me, which was also a waste of time. The icing on the cake was that a service call was scheduled for a Sunday, which I was ok with, but the tech was a no show, no contact, no nothing. I call Hughes net several times during and after the time of the appointment, was promised return calls which never happened, and was told by one of the CSRs that the tech was on his way which was a blatant lie. read more

DON'T GET HUGHESNET!!!! I just spent three hours on the phone, yelling at customer service representatives and their supervisors, trying to get out of my contract, without paying the early cancellation fee of $340. I've had Hughesnet, since October 2019, and it has never really worked. It's been so slow, that we've given up on it, and just use our phone hotspots, to access the internet. Often, my wife would have to go to Panera Bread, to download some of her work forms on their public WiFi, since the hotspot was too slow, and it's faster than Hughesnet. During the months that I've had Hughesnet, I've spent hours and hours on the phone with customer service reps, supervisors, advanced troubleshooters resetting this, resetting that, changing this setting, changing that frequency, and on and on and on, sadly with no improvement. Finally, my wife and I decided we'd had enough, and called to cancel. I argued, we'd been paying monthly...for nothing (no useful internet), and I'd tried and tried and tried to work with Hughesnet to improve our service, to no avail, and that Hughesnet breeched our contract, (by not providing me with what I was paying for), not me, and that I shouldn't be charged the early cancellation fee. I'd also argued, that I'd been paying monthly, for internet that I wasn't receiving, and that they pretty much had gotten their $340, for nothing. They disagreed, and said that in order to get out of the early cancellation fee, I had to jump through more of their hoops, and their engineering department had to conclude that my service was not repairable. To work with the engineering dept, I would be put on a list, and they would call me, within 24 to 48 hours. I replied, that I'd already been on that list several times, and only once, did I actually receive a call from engineering, so as far as I was concerned, I had already jumped through that hoop, and they dropped the ball. Ultimately, Hughesnet wouldn't budge, so I told them to cancel my (non-existent) service immediately, and charge me. It will be worth it, to get away from this horrible nightmare of an experience. Oh, and to add salt to the wound, the guy who installed the service in the first place, mounted the satellite dish on the roof of my house, with three big lag screws, right through the shingles, so I'll be out a few more hundred dollars, to have my roof repaired. This company is the worst! Please save yourself from getting locked into a 2 year nightmare. I just canceled finally and told them how awful their services have been. You get minimal data for very high costs. I was paying $67 a month for like 5 gigs or something like that. If I watched two movies in a month on demand, I was left with very little data and then my services would slow down drastically unless I paid more money to add more data. While explaining this to customer service, the lady had the nerve to say, "Well Ma'am, I don't mean to be rude but if you had called us, we would have given you more data at no extra charge." First of all, that's not true because I had called and they did not offer me more data for free. Secondly, I said to her, "So, your customers have to complain in order to get better service? That's how you operate?" I just couldn't believe she treated me as if I was the stupid one. As if I should have known that I needed to call and complain to get good service, like duh? I received an offer in the mail for free installation and $20 off a month plans for two years. I read the fine print before I called two days ago to set up my account but something came up and I was unable to order it that day. I was guaranteed a locked in price of $49.98 after a credit check and told to call back in two days. I did that today, but after running another credit check, I was told that I would need to "find someone to put the account in their name" or "someone with GOOD credit" or pay $300 for the equipment. I'm trying to SAVE money by not paying $85 a month for my current provider, but I find out because I pay for everything in cash and don't have a credit card in my name, I would have to pay $349.98 today, plus go buy a router for another $50 just to have mediocre internet. After looking up the upload and download speeds, I would only be allowed 15 hours a month of streaming. I use that alone a week for school. It sounds all good and fine, but there is a reason you can't look up plans online and have to call the number for any information. Would NEVER recommend. No other internet service provider would cover my area so I went through Hughesnet. The woman on the phone would not explain things where I understood and they had an old promotional ad on their website and they would not even honor it. The guy that came out was very unprofessional and did not give me anything to sign for contract/agreement. No notification of when I should have my first payment until they decided to over charge me. I called right away and argued with them over the price they told me vs what I was charged. They said $400 cancellation fee. Mind you, I did NOT sign an agreement with them so technically I can cancel without them charging me a dime. They lowered their price to what they originally quoted me but only for 12 months. The internet speed is HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. I cannot wait for these 2 years to be done. NEVER AGAIN! I hope others take warning. This company needs to go out of business. read more
