Humboldt Beer Works was AWESOME! They had everything you could need for brewing. My wife even bought a cheese making kit. We planned to make it a regular stop everytime we came through town. Too bad they are no longer open, the world needs more places like this. read more

I last visited this business in 2016. I made gallons of pear wine from the pears in my yard. It isn't great for drinking, but it is fantastic for cooking and making sauces. I was able to buy everything I needed for brewing, and storing the wine at the shop. There were several different yeasts to purchase, too. It is a low key atmosphere and prices are reasonable. The pears on the tree are numerous and I've used my last drop of pear wine. Time to go back to the Homebrewing shop. read more

First, to address an older review or two, their original space was tiny but packed with homebrew stuff. Their new space, newly expanded to boot, is probably a good six times larger than that original space. HUGE variety of grains, hops, yeasts, all kinds of equipment from kegs and carbuoys to kettles and conicals! Very friendly, very knowledgeable owners. I've called in during brew-day emergencies for advice on several occasions! I've lived in a few areas and gone to the LHBS at each, and never had a place as large, diverse, and helpful. Old review from opening day: Tiny store. Absolutely packed with home brewers on opening day. Looks like they are still getting products in and getting used to how to serve customers. Their grain rack is very cool and they have a good selection of grains. Nice collection of yeasts in the refrigerator. It doesn't look like they will ever have room in this storefront for big items like conical fermenters and larger brewing equipment, but they should be able to serve the homebrew community with the everyday needs of grain, hops, yeast, flavorings, books, and some tubing/ equipment. I wish them well- it looks like they know their stuff and will serve a need here. New Review October 2013: Much larger space now. Great customer service. Lots of large equipment as well as a huge selection of malts, grains, hops, yeasts and adjuncts. They are aware of internet prices and remain competitive. I've been brewing for several years as an amateur. Generally friendly and helpful, this place is good for beginning to intermediate homebrewers. I have only been there twice, for hops and grains mostly, and I like their selections. I was bummed the second time when I noticed they were out of a particular grain I use;; brewing is popular, so supplies go fast. They will grind bulk grains for you when some places are self-serve or no service at all. Also, they're down-to-earth and not pushy. This place is quite possibly your only stop in Humboldt for brew supplies.. Ask about their mailing list, brewing literature, and hops wax candy. See you there! read more

I did lots of research to be ready for my first brew day and had some specific questions, the staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. In addition they recommended a stout recipe from one of their books. Then they weighted, milled and got me the whole kit ready to brew all in one quick swoop! The brew was delicious and I plan on brewing it again and again. They also have a good selection and prices on all the fittings I needed to convert my sankey kegerator to accept a corney home brew keg. Went here to press apples this Fall, which is a service they offer for free but request a donation for upkeep of equipment and eventual upgrade from a hand-crank grinder to an electric one. Knowledgeable and friendly, was supportive throughout the process, and very passionate about making this a resource available for everyone in the community. read more

These guys are inept. I drove form Orick on the Friday of Easter weekend. I needed a 50lb sack of grain. With 4 sacks of grain in stock, I was told I could not purchase a full sack of grain because that was all they had. Needless to say I will never do business with them ever and now have my supplies shipped to me for a $25 shipping charge but at least I know I am getting it and not spending $25 for fuel to shop with these fools. Too bad they dont have competition because they can get away with it. You wont see me at the Humboldt Beer Works, cause it dont works for me. read more
