Our fence blew down last January during the high-wind storms. We had watched the a Humboldt Fence commercial with Russ riding a horse and checking fences. I called Humboldt Fence and got our project on their waiting list. The building crew was amazing. They had that fence rebuilt and replaced in less than four days. I talked with John during his time on the job. He was clearly somebody that loved his work and took pride in the finished product. 1Star I received the same treatment as Craig L. The estimator showed up and pulled his lips back in a failed attempt at a smile and I knew I was in for the "Humboldt Shuffle". Estimator said he'd have a bid for my gates in my email on Wednesday. I did a follow up call on Friday and the woman on the phone informed me the estimator hadn't completed the bid yet, was waiting to hear from their supplier, and I should expect the bid in a couple of days. Yeah right. I couldn't see it, but I heard the woman utilize a toothpick to remove a piece of BS from her teeth. Don't waste your time on these unprofessional knuckle heads. read more

Don't bother. My spouse contacted them to come out to give us an estimate on a few small fences, including a driveway gate. An estimator came out quickly to give the estimate, but then after 2-3 weeks of not hearing anything, he followed up with the estimator. The estimator said "he was still working on the estimate". That was a month ago. Still nothing. If the job was too small, or if you don't want to do the job for whatever reason, just tell us so we could move on and not be waiting and having to follow up. Time frame to installation was quick (compared to the 10 week waiting time for the other 4. Posts set on a Tuesday and fencing/gates installed on Friday. Humboldt Fence did an amazing job building a fence at our house. We have a hilly space on a slope and they took extra time to give the fence a nice smooth appearance. They were also very quick, nice to work with and I appreciated their attention to detail. We had an existing fence that needed to be removed and stacked on site. They stacked it in a nice neat pile that made it easy for me to deal with. Overall, I would definitely work with them again. read more

Humboldt Fencing installed a 20 ft rolling chain link gate for me at my home in Arcata last week. I now have a secure off street parking area and could not be happier with the gate and with Humboldt Fencing. I requested a quote for this gate and received it by email within a day. Scheduled the install for first week of June. Price was reasonable for a two day job, posts set on day one, gate installed two days later after concrete had set. Ann in the office was always responsive to questions, all the crew guys were a pleasure to work with, offering suggestions for maintenance and tips to keep the hardware working right over the years. Great fence company. Got a quote and went with them when I desperately needed a new fence after part of it blew over. Guys were able to find our property markers easily, the new fence and gate looks amazing. Also they worked in the rain doing the post and framing, boards done final day, so it was a fri-tue job. First of all, the estimator showed up on time when Ann, the Administrative Assistant, said he would, and I had my estimate via email the very next day. He was extremely professional and courteous. He said they were 2 weeks out from starting the project and it actually ended up being 18 days when they started. The project consisted of 342 feet of cedar fencing and included two large security gates. I went with all-steel posts -- Fantastic! The Humboldt Fence Company is a group of professional, polite, and hard-working men. I have the most beautiful fence in town! Humboldt fence has done big jobs for us so we thought we call them again the owner came out very nice and took the measurements never heard back from them that was 3 months ago called them they said they lost it so Mike came out to get the measurements never heard from then still that was over 3 weeks ago try calling them all you get is the answering machine they NEVER call you back . Its sad before they moved we got better service . The people that come out are very nice you just never hear from them again. read more

First of all I would like to say that this company discriminates against older people. I bought a garden fence and a solar gate. The gate broke after a couple of weeks. They fixed it and in no time it broke again. I called emailed them over and over. Ann in the office was wonderful, telling me they are coming over and over when she knew they were lying to her and me. I spent 10 grand and the gate is still not fixed. I don't know why Russ doesn't like me, but has a feeling that he can get away with treating me and other older people with disrespect. I would think his grandparents would be disappointed in him, I know I am! read more

We are not as happy as the other reviews. Called to get a quote for a new fence. Humboldt Fence came out to look at job. He then said he would send me a quote via e-mail. Two weeks later I called saying I never received my quote. Finally received quote and was told we are on the schedule to start the following week. Well one week went into two weeks and then 3 weeks. Finally after numerous calls to Humboldt fence we were finally on the schedule. Was then told this would be a 5 DAY JOB. I informed my neighbors who had to keep their dogs locked up. There will be a crew here everyday. NOT!! This 5 day job turned into 5 WEEKS. Between the workers not showing up, Humboldt fence forgetting to order the WOOD, and the total inconvenience rearranging my schedule to accommodate them, has brought me to YELP. The fence was finally done. There were obvious areas of the fence that were not done correct and looked horrible. Gates were uneven and split boards. Kicks boards left out of 20 feet of fence and my dogs have dug out already!! Stopped short of the sidewalk on one side of front fence 18 inches. Looks horrible. OK so here we are today. 4 MONTHS later and still have not had all issues fixed. I have left several messages with the owner to call me. I have sent pictures to show the owner Russ. Was promised we were on the schedule this Thursday or Friday. AGAIN, no workers showed up and not phone call. Customer beware. We spent $13,500.00 on this fence and thought we were getting professional and superb results. read more

Humboldt Fence probably does good work, but I don't know. They never did my job, in fact, they never called me back, and I gave up after two calls to their office and two weeks of waiting. If they were not able to do my job, they could have told me straight off rather than waste my time. The irony is that they advertise on TV as though they want to work for you. I hope some satisfied customer will post a review of their work. Maybe the quality of their work offsets their extremely poor customer service. read more

Since Humboldt Fence installed the fence originally and I was happy with their work, I called them when part of the fence blew down. I am inclined to agree with the review of 12/5/17. I am 70 years old and disabled now and Humboldt Fence has treated me like shit. They sent someone out to look at my fence when I needed about 20 - 30 feet of it repaired. He said he would email me an estimate the next day. Two weeks went by without an estimate so I called and left my name, number and email address. Still no response. I called Area 1 Agency on Aging to see if they knew anyone who might work with seniors to do needed repairs. She called Hum. Fence. This at least got a call from them saying my paperwork must have been lost or misfiled and they would look for it. In the meantime the entire 100 feet of fence blew down. Another two weeks went by and the Area 1 person called to see if I was satisfied with the work. I told her that Hum. Fence hadn't followed through with anything. She called them again and was told that they had left a message yesterday asking me to call back. I Don't Have An Answering Machine. I called Hum Fence and Ann said to give her 30 - 45 minutes and they would get back to me with a new estimate. That was SIX HOURS ago and still no call. I cannot recommend this company. I gave it one star but I would rather have given it no stars at all. read more
