The additional time beyond the half-hour is on-ground horse-care learning (grooming, tacking, etc.) The half-hour lessons, the horse is ready for get-on-and-go. It was a sweltering hot day, and I made an unannounced stop-in, so I did not request a tour. The owner-operator is friendly and knowledgeable. We'll be back!

I feel I need to share about this place to offer a more fair and balanced view than another…read morereviewer. Once a year in the summer, my husband's family meets at Steele Creek Campground for a day of swimming, eating, and family togetherness. My father-in-law has been coming here since he was young, and my husband and his brothers and sisters came here a lot during their childhood. It's nestled in the gorgeous Blue Ridge mountains and the temperature is perfect during the hot southern summers. The creek water is mountain cold! The park is very clean, although the smaller restrooms near the creek desperately need updating. The pool isn't quite so cold, so the kids like to switch back and forth between that and the creek. There's a big, winding tube slide built into the mountain, which does cost extra. There are two diving boards on the deep part of the creek, and also a putt putt course that looks well kept. This place has a wonderful family atmosphere. The families laugh together and people make friends. My family has not camped here, but we have strolled through the camping areas to check it out. There are a lot of RVs, lots of pop up campers, and a few tents. Lots of kids with bicycles. I grew up camping - mostly at Table Rock - and my siblings and I loved riding our bikes through the campgrounds. And in a park like this you can feel comfortable letting them. Basically, if you want WILDERNESS camping, you're not going to find it at a *campground* in the summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Duh! Giving a 1 star review over seeing RVs and children riding bikes and men without shirts on is unfair and rather...well, snobby and prima donna-ish...for lack of a better word. Steele Creek is a wonderful campground if you know anything about campgrounds and know what to expect in-season.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD RIDE HERE…read more I've been a member of four different barns and Lake Pointe was by far the worst experience I've had. I took lessons there for about a year and a half, and the only good staff member was an outside hire. Here are my warnings: 1. The staff is incredibly rude, with the exception of the owner, Kari, who is incredibly polite and friendly. However, the two daughters, Sydney and Savannah, seem to run the barn and are completely out of control. They will scream at each other, having full-blown fights in front of customers, and play obvious favorites with the riding students. Both girls frequently have dramatic breakdowns... I could barely go a week without seeing one of them cry. The "trainer" is a 17-year-old with minimal show experience who doesn't take criticism or correction of any sort and only lets her favorite students jump or advance. 2. They have no respect for boarders' horses. I boarded my horse there for almost a year, and within that time period all of my tack was used on various horses without my permission. I would walk out to the pasture and find the gate had been left open on several occasions. Also, I purchased a medication for my horse's hoof condition that was then used on a number of different horses in the barn, again without my permission. 3. They do not take care of their facility or horses properly. The pastures have way too many horses in them, so grass does not grow and the pastures turn to mud. My horse developed a hoof condition because she was standing in 10-inch deep mud all day. The horses are maintained well enough, but if anything goes wrong in a lesson, the horse is blamed rather than the rider. The horse's physical comfort is rarely taken into consideration. The prices at this barn are tempting, but they are low for a reason. You and/or your child or horse will not learn anything here, much less be treated with respect. I'm begging you, DO NOT GO TO THIS BARN. In the year and a half I was there, over 20 students left because of their being mistreated. It is not worth it. My status as a client at your facility for a year and a half only supports the validity of my statements. I did not follow to your current location, but the number of students that have left the barn after going to your new location have attested exactly against the maintenance of your new facilities. I have heard nothing except how you overcrowd your pastures and continue to purchase more and more horses without selling any. I'm sure the horses you have enjoyed the new space for the short while they had before it was overstocked​ again. The simple fact that most of your lesson students and boarders leave after a short period of time is really the only testimony we need to speak to your barn's credibility. Only the few students deemed as favorites by the underage trainers are the ones who stick around; all others leave unhappy. I never made any good friends at the barn because no one stayed for very long, including myself. Even the boarders follow this pattern - the only boarder who stayed for more than a year was Nancy, and that is only because she personally oversees all of her horse, Astrix's, care to make sure it will be done properly. I chose to keep my identity anonymous since the barn is known for trash talking and destroying reputations of riders and trainers alike, so I didn't want invalid opinions of me nor my trainer going around.

Also, as we continued past the falls to finish the loop, there was a marker which we followed and basically had to crawl up the side of the mountain (which obviously wasn't the right way but it did have a path so we kept pushing forward). Thankfully it connected to the trail and we were back in business We enjoyed the beautiful, cool weather as we made our way through a mossy, lush forest. The water fountain at the start/end of path wasn't working which was a bummer but we had more water in the car. Pack accordingly.

This was no small accomplishment given all the mistakes made. He set us up with just the right lures, quickly handing us alternative rods already set up when the conditions changed. I caught more fish with Mike than in my last 10 outings combined. This is a life-long memory. We'll be back!
