After struggling for a few minutes one girl jumps on the dumpster and opens the hatch then she falls in. I see her rooting around for a few minutes then watch her as she struggles to get out. I see a cop and tell him about it and he said there is nothing he can do. So I stand there debating if I should run over and just get her out. I debated this because my luck people would think Im trying to do something to these kids. Then the girl finally gets out. By this time me and another customer have watched this thing unfold and one of the guys in the shop goes "we see kids doing that all the time"... Why were kids even out there unsupervised, Why were they emptying garbage? Anything could have happened from just any weirdo walking/driving by could have just snatched one or both, up to the fact that the truck could have come to empty the dumpster. So I pay up at the shop and go to the school to tell someone and they didnt seem surprised but more like "not again" type of reaction. I was kind of taken back, but they said they would handle it. I have typically heard good things about this school but after seeing this I would never ever ever ever consider this school for my children nor recommend it for others

Heck...even i was confused and challenged by the TAKS weird questions and other assignments. So i reluctantly surrendered and found Lacie Taylor of Taylor-Made Tutoring. And what a great find. Five minutes after meeting Lacie you will feel comfortable with her and her methods. Her warm, calm and encouraging approach to teaching various learning methodologies is something i could never do. And so my daughter took to her lessons immediately, i am happy to say. She has responded very well and the improvements she has made are a great reflection upon Lacie's skills as a teacher. Another benefit to Taylor-Made Tutoring's math program is that they offer an in-home tutoring option where instead of having to drive in and out of Lacie's place of business, she has other tutors on her staff who will come to your home for the lessons. This is a valuable alternative at times. Taylor-Made Tutoring offers tutoring from elementary levels to very high math courses and we will likely be using her summer math camp to really get ahead this year.

On the last day of school last year, I lost my job and I was devastated. The first thought that crossed my mind was I wouldn't be able to send my daughter for another year because there was no way we would be able to afford tuition. And actually, we were already receiving a 50% discount. This was devastating for a plethora of reasons. One, I was desperate to have my child keep receiving a Christ centered education AND, I was so scared to lose touch with the community that we had built over the past year. So with a heavy heart I went to Karon (the Director) and Laura (Director of Community Engagemen) and told them we needed to unenroll my daughter from attending the next (THIS YEAR 24-25). The first thing they said was not, ok lets get her unenrolled but: We're so sorry this happened - do NOT unenroll her. It is more important for her to have this Christ centered education than it is for you to worry about how you will pay for it. We WILL work this out. And also, how else can we support you? They will forever have my heart for how they handled this. I also love it for the fruits I see taking root in my daughter. Conflict resolution, spiritual and emotional character development. They see the child as a whole and fully formed person and they nurture them. The community is just, beautiful and kind and loving and SAFE and everything I really wanted/needed as a child. This was a new location and wouldn't recommend going through the growing pains. I am giving 2 stars because I was grateful that they took our daughters in last minute (after Los Amiguitos on MLK unexpectedly delayed when they would be able to start our daughter). The teacher who spoke English and Spanish was let go which was really when I started to notice that they weren't doing much with the kids. It was more of a daycare vibe where teachers just watched the kids and made sure they stayed alive. The only teacher who ever engaged in conversation and did cool activities like had the kids help set up bird feeds. The kids are changed anywhere and everywhere. I didn't agree with this personally because of sanitary purposes and as someone with a childcare background, I believe it's important for children to have a designated bathroom place to make that connection. Especially when it's time to potty train. We had started shortly after they opened. So their playground was still under construction. There was ZERO shade at first. Kids spend 2-3 hours in hot weather. Some days the HI was as high as 103. They quit doing water play for like a month when it started to get hotter. When I brought this up to Jackie, the director, she dismissed me and stated there were no guidelines for weather according to licensing. My daughters wouldn't eat at school because of how much the heat affected them. Mosquitoes and flies are a huge issue here even though they have pest control. This is an issue if you have a child who is more reactive to mosquitoes bites. My daughter would come home with what looked like marbles under her skin from the bites due to her reaction to mosquitoes. My 3.5 year old came home learning more English than Spanish. Most parents here are only English speaking so they place their kids here in hopes they will learn Spanish. It was hard on my older daughter as there were no other children who spoke Spanish. As far as I knew from what I was told, we were the only Spanish speaking household. So if you're of Hispanic background and looking for a Spanish program, this isn't the place. What was our deciding factor? I got a call from them that my youngest daughter had a fever of 102.4. I picked her up within the hour. The HI was 103. When I got there she was outside with the rest of the children in the heat. I brought this up to Jackie, and again she dismissed me and made it seem like it wasn't a big deal. She stated they were short handed and she had went to lunch so she had my daughter go with the rest of the kids and that she had her water bottle. Apparently my daughter's health wasn't more important than a lunch break. Child care licensing states that a child that is sick and sent home needs to be isolated from other children to reduce the chances of an outbreak. So they also broke licensing regulations. My daughter came back positive with COVID. No letter was sent out to the rest of the parents regarding a positive case (especially since they refused to isolate her). This was obviously a concern as it made me wonder what illnesses they were exposing my kids to as well. After that incident is when we pulled our girls shortly after securing another spot elsewhere. I never received an apology for Jackie not being respectful of my daughter's health even though I mentioned this was the reason why. Absolutely no cares given.

I am a father of two children who both have attended St. John Neumann (SJN) pre-school. I've had…read morean overwhelmingly positive experience with Kelly Montgomery and all of the teachers at SJN. If you are fortunate enough to find a spot for your children, I wouldn't hesitate even for even a minute. We've tried several different pre-schools in multiple cities and SJN is our hands-down favorite (and our top pick for any children joining our family in the future). I receive multiple updates per week via email from my child's Pre-K teacher, Ms. Chrysta. She includes specific aims and goals in her emails and lesson plans, and she produces great results, too! Of note, my child's social and writing skills have improved, and she takes direction far better than before attending SJN. Most importantly, my child feels loved by her teachers, and she loves them back. At this critical Pre-K age, both a trust and a bond with teachers and the administrator set the tone for everything else. Most days, my child feels moved to enter the office of "Chi Chi" (Kelly) and give her a goodbye hug. I also see this trust and love between my child and teachers not directly involved with my child's education. The small size of the school allows for this. All of the teachers and staff say "hi" and "bye" to my child by name, and ask my child questions about the day or the weekend. This makes SJN as much a community as it is a school. The classroom sizes are kept small so that each child has a chance for individual attention and instruction. SJN has early drop-off and late stay options, too. The other parents I've met tend to be highly involved in their children's lives. There are both fathers and mothers dropping off and picking up kids. I've made friends with many of the families, and hope to continue meeting even more! There is one extremely negative review of SJN pre-school here on Yelp from August 2017. I would ask other Yelp users to do their homework: inspect this reviewer's other reviews and draw their own conclusions about the fairness, accuracy, and focus of this 1-star SJN review.
