His teacher said that he was reading at a first grade level and she did not believe he would make it through the rest of second grade nor be advanced to the third. In other words she was going to recommend he get "left back". I tried everything from tutors, buying more learning material for home and taking away my son's "most prized possessions". I was at my whits end. At least I thought I was until I contacted Sylvan Learning Center in Hamilton NJ. They listened to my long list of concerns without interruption and said "WE CAN AND WILL HELP, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES". And that they did. After a month, my son is currently at reading level, his confidence is well above where it used be before Sylvan and he is eager to learn every and anything. My son's teacher no longer believes he should be held back and his grades are increasing. We have been a Chapin family for eleven years…read more My older daughter had attended Chapin since pre-k and graduated last year. She was more than ready to take on the challenges of secondary school. Her freshman year was an academic success! Throughout her years at Chapin, she has grown to be an independent, well-rounded individual. She's not afraid to email teachers about assignments, ask questions when she is uncertain about something discussed during class, or voice her opinion about anything. We owe those positive attributes to Chapin. My younger daughter has also attended Chapin since pre-k. She continues to amaze us with how much she's learned in just a short amount of time. We owe that to the excellent Chapin teachers who not only educate their students but also care about their growth and development. My husband and I are excited for my little one to experience all that Chapin has to offer in the coming years. Chapin is an extraordinary school. I think that the services are still being tweaked, especially for those younger than preschool, and so the jury is still out. I like their philosophy, and the teachers are very friendly and fun. Some weeks the room is more prepped for the kids than others, and the schedule is constantly changing which can make it hard to plan your week. I would like to see communication improved between staff and parents. I have emailed or inquired in person on different occasions and not always received follow up, which is surprising since it is such a small staff. But all in all, I think that what they have going is a great service once they work out the kinks.

Along with all of the academics their is a strong interest in nature, the arts, music, and interpersonal development creating an environment that is deeply enriching and fulfilling. The Princeton Waldorf campus is beautiful and magical. The family community that develops along with the children is long lasting. I am a parent of a child who graduated in 1992 and continue to be a part of the Waldorf community.

The Princeton Day School is a private school. The principal Anne W., the academic Director Nan Y. and the Calligraphy teacher Greg T. have been efficient, flexible, friendly and customer-oriented. I grew up in Montgomery the neighboring town to Princeton and went to high school there. At the time our graduating class only had 87 kids and it was excellent. Many kids in our neighborhood played hockey at PDS and a few of the kids attended this school. I recently attended a charity function here at PDS and it was a great experience. What a fantastic turn out and well run event that was attended by the faculty and parents. You can tell that it is a very tight community of very high quality people. If I had a child and the money I certainly would love to send my child to a beautiful school like this.

Based on his comments and what I've seen when dropping him off and picking him up, the instructors relate well to the campers. That's a huge plus. As a parent, my expectations for what he gets out of the camp are realistic and have been met every year. I don't expect my son to walk out of there an expert in whatever course he took that week. As long as he had fun, was challenged and inspired, and made some friends if even for a week, it was a worthwhile experience. He's already looking forward to doing it again this year.
