This is also a con because it makes "cliques" more apparent. Pros: Parent-teacher relationships are strong. Attached to the church so there is no walking outside during inclement weather. Nuns still teach and run the school, this is less common in some other Catholic schools. Convenient for local children. Has after school program. CORA is available to tutor children who are having trouble, this happens during school hours. Cons: Costly, there are even charges if your child stays for lunch (which last I remember is held in the classrooms since there is no proper cafeteria.) Lack of after school activities, and those that do exist are expensive. Extracurricular classes are poor, in particular gym, which is held in the chilly basement of the church. Small class sizes mean advanced students are held back. To keep them busy they are asked to help less advanced students. Most of the student body lives in the area and graduates to Archbishop Ryan. Religion is held in high regard, and is very prevalent in the classroom. By attending this school, CCD is not mandatory as you study for and receive the sacraments through their church.

My issue with Future Scholars is not the teachers or program, but the owner of the center. I once over heard the owner complaining about a client's unpaid bill in the school's kitchen and it really made me rethink the center my child was attending. Outstanding bills should be paid, but the way he spoke about it really made my decision to leave clear. It really is such a shame, I would consider recommending this center; if it were being run by someone with more respect and real profesionalism.

The staff and the owner submitted multiple votes for their own business. This certainly was not a result of their business acumen or a result of their client bases opinion. I got a call from the principal stating that she was going to call the local POLICE and report my child (5th grade) because he was involved in the conversation. She stated that another kid over heard the conversation and told his parent who called the school upset. I though that she was joking, but SURE enough, I received a call from the local POLICE department. Unreal. My child will NOT be attending next year.

The overall school atmosphere is like something out of a fairytale. From pick up to drop off, we are greeted with smiling faces, kind students, friendly parents and an overall feeling of inclusion. Academically, we were impressed with the curriculum at the PK and K levels. In addition to his normal class schedule, our son has two special-subject areas each day; one being Coding (taught by the amazing Rachel Kaplan). All special areas are wonderful, but as I understand it, MFS is the only school in NJ to teach Coding (which is the future) at the PK and K levels. He came from a private school in Philadelphia where he graduated top of his class, and won Pennsylvania awards for musicianship and was head chorister at his professional church choir. He is also now an award winning pianist and composer. His creativity was saved at MFS by Ed Robertson and Rich Marcucci - just wonderful artists and musicians. Other than that no one else seemed to care about his level of musicianship. During his junior year we asked for specific help about applying to creative and performing arts schools. During College admissions night, the guidance counselors admitted to us they had no process in place for developing our creative students' porfolios. After checking with Westtown School, Friends Central, Friends Select and Germantown Friends, we realized that MFS was really lacking in their ability to help our creative children. After spending $16,000 a year on our son's high school education we were truly disappointed in MFS's lack of help for our creative child and also their lack of folow up after the college admissions night. They really had no idea how to treat college applications for creative students. They only seemed to are about Ivy League level students and had no interest in their creative students. We would truly like to know whether things have changed.
