Thinking you're athletic at 35 is a helluva drug. Luckily, Event Power has a bunch of events set up to prove you're an animal or to humble your butt back to the couch. I signed up for the Huntington Triathlon as my first tri ever and I'm happy to say it was smooth sailing. All of the info is laid out well on their webpage and you get constant updates and info via email. Should you have more Q's, when you check-in for your packet there are plenty of people around to help and reassure you that you're the beast you think you are and that this is possible. On race day, everything is set up as noted. The transition area is clearly marked and it's easy to find placement for your bike and bags. There is a pre-race meeting which goes through the course for the day, so it's nearly impossible to head into the race blind. It was a super windy day, so the swim buoys were moved (thank the lord) to help aid us. Plenty of lifeguards in the water offering help if you needed it too, which was comforting. For the bike/run portion, the roads were clearly marked, there were volunteers pointing in the right direction and police closing some roads for riders. It was all pretty seamless actually. If you're signing up, watch out for the steep hills in the bike portion (for real) and there's one large hill in the run portion, but what goes up must come down, so it's not a killer course. Totally doable for a beginner. All-in-all, it was a great intro to tri racing and I look forward to signing up for more events with Event Power! Bonus: after the race there were sammies, bathrooms to change/shower, and even some brew samples from a local brewery. Nice! read more
