This was made very clear to her many times, but since she knew she was actively robbing people, she didn't care about the damage caused along the way. At some point, Marcella Goodwin disappeared with our money and documents. We've attempted to reach her for months. My sister has gone to her office multiple times, only to find it locked. She still possesses my sister's critically important original docs and their money. Marcella's business model is to overcharge for bogus services and then disappear for a while. If you have the unfortunate opportunity to utilize her services, know that you are giving your money to a thief and a liar. She has an F on the BBB. She has received cease and desist letters from the California Bar Association. I'm not entirely sure how she's not behind bars, but if you see her, be sure to let the police know.

Basic, readily available records--central to the issue--were either not reviewed or not properly understood. Any competent attorney should verify the factual foundation before making legal claims. Instead, the letter relied heavily on generic, copy-pasted case law that did not meaningfully apply. There was little effort to connect the legal authority to the actual facts. It read more like a template than a thoughtful legal analysis. The overall impression was rushed, careless, and lacking diligence. Making strong legal assertions without doing the underlying work exposes clients to unnecessary risk and undermines credibility. If you are looking for careful, detail-oriented representation, this was not my experience. I would recommend finding someone who takes the time to understand the facts before sending out legal threats.

As it is, there will be tax consequences if this is not settled before the end of the year, and we live in San Diego now so dropping by his office to find out what's going on is not an option. 7/15/2016: A very honest and hardworking family law attorney, which is pretty tough to find in El Dorado county. He is reasonably priced, answers the phone, and gives it to you straight. It took a year and $65,000 to another attorney who was actually worse than self-representation to find Brad. He has worked hard, and been up front, and a breath of fresh air in a place even the Bar Association has classified as one of the worst counties in California to find fair representation.
