Hurst discount drug is a downtown bardstown throwback drug store/diner located across the street from the giant roundabout where the bardstown welcome center is in the very popular stretch or strip mall. You walk into what's essentially a throwback small town version of a cvs or Walgreens with some souvenir stuff, snacks and Knick knacks. In the very back they have an active and working pharmacy. In the other corner you have a 50s style throwback diner that pumps out burgers, dogs, root beer floats and ice cream cones all with counter top seating and couple table booths. Me and my family along with our friends family was in Bardstown for a mini day trip. Our party of 9 decided to grab a quick bite as we heard good things about this little diner. We placed our order and set on the counter top stools. We sampled the menu pretty good. Got everything. From burgers, chicken sandwiches , grilled cheese, chili cheese dogs, Ice cream floats, milkshakes and ice cream. Now unfortunately, our fun trip was struck short by a family tragedy. Right as my chili cheese dog and root beer float arrived my wife received a phone call informing her that her father passed away. The patrons and workers here (small place so no hiding anything) took notice of what was Happening and before she could get off the phone they was placing our food in to go boxes and cups and some super generous and gracious woman already paid for our bill and told us to get on our way as soon as possible so my wife could be with her mom and brothers. Everyone here was super kind and despite the devastating news it gave us some solace that there still was genuine good and caring people in this world. Because of this even If the food and pricing here was not good (which it was all very good and cheap from what we got to try) I was giving this place a 5 star. I scarfed my chili cheese dog down in like one bite while running out the door. That one bite was very tasty and my wife took two bites of her burger before the call and she said it was very good. We absolutely will come back. And I know it's a long shot (bardstown is a small town with little yelp representation) but if the lady who sprung into action before we could even think about it reads this we truly thank you (I wish I would of been of present mind to get an address or something to send a thank you card). Also a huge thanks to that staff who moved and acted quickly to get us on our way so we could be with the family. Truly left a lasting and positive impression that we will be eternally grateful for. read more

This is an old fashioned soda fountain, so no frills here just good food that reminds you of your youth! We were visiting from out of town and I had never heard of pimento cheese so of course I had to try this. Oh my word! Then I had to find a recipe so I could make it at home. Very good! This is a great place for a quick lunch or an ice cream treat while exploring downtown Bardstown. read more

This is an old school drug store in Bardstown. The store offers plenty of knickknacks & pharmaceutics but what's really fun is the old school soda fountain with a counter to sit. My fiancé and I shared a shake, which was very tasty. They also serve food, which we didn't have a chance to try but would love to have their famous chicken salad sandwich. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. This is a neat spot to check out if you're in the area. read more

We stumbled in here almost by accident and discovered the cutest soda fountain - truly an old school gem. We shared a milkshake and really appreciated the experience my grandparents have reminisced upon fondly of having a date at a soda fountain sharing a milkshake sitting at the counter. It isn't much, but they do have a full menu of sandwiches for lunch as well. The soda fountain is embedded within a small five and ten shop - truly a place for Americana nostalgia! read more

Just like in the movies. We sat at the bar and ordered a banana shake and the orange cow. My drink was the orange cow, it was so yummy I plan to make some at home too. It's orange sherbet and sprite. So refreshing! The service is the small town friendly service. They also are a true pharmacy and have lots of home decor and gift items. The soda fountain is amazing. Burgers, milkshakes, and sodas are definitely top-tier. I always eat here whenever I get the chance. Never actually browsed through the store section, but it seems to have a lot of variety and amazing products. read more

Milkshake was pretty decent. Had to ask for everything though, wasn't given a spoon initially or whipped cream. Had the chicken salad which is "famous". It wasn't anything special. Good, but I feel like Sam's club has better chicken salad. Just my personal preference though. Staff was all very young but did a fine job. read more

I really did like this place! It's a great drug store, lots of really neat artsy items for purchase too. Going in is like taking a trip down memory row, that is if you were around back in the day when many drugstores and general stores were equipped with a counter to order and eat food at too. The store is so neat and tidy. The woman working the register was very friendly. She saw us struggling to take a selfie at the counter and offered to take it for us, very nice. Towards the back is the pharmacy area. I overheard a woman behind this counter giving some friendly advice. What great old fashioned feel this place has and has kept for quite some time. My experience here was sweet. I will definitely return. read more

Nominally a drug store: technically you can walk in and get prescription drugs, and, as far as I can tell, some older people actually do this, but their OTC collection is... um... lacking.. To be fair, they have two features which are much more prominent than their elixirs and pharmaceutics: nic-nacs and the lunch counter. The lunch counter has various mediocre sandwiches and the only thing worth ingesting: milkshakes. Go in, get a milk shake and walk... nay run... out the door. The nic-nacs are 100% gimmick. Stuff to put on your end table, stuff to hang on the wall, stuff to put on your yard: you can get similar stuff (and cheaper) at Walmart. Like I said, walk in, get a milkshake, hand them three singles and hurry out before you get interested in their tchotchke, nic-nacs, and various other junk. read more

The shakes are delicious! As far as the place as a whole, I was expecting a little more. The gift shop is cute with a nice selection and reasonable prices. The pharmacy area looked functional and active, but the otc selections looked limited. The soda fountain area offered great shakes, but the options were very limited and the staff did not really seem to add to the charm of that "soda shop" experience. That being said, the guy working the gift shop counter was super friendly and helpful. He definitely added to the experience we hoped for. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. The place does so many different types of work it almost astonishes me how business isn't booming everyday there. A typical drug store just gives you your prescription and sends you on your way, not Hurst. Hurst is a store where you can get a lot of different things. For example, there's tons of good ol' fashioned typical Bardstown Kentucky nic nacs to be seen in this store. I've found myself in here more than once picking out something to send to my grandma, or something to buy my friends in florida, who tourist type people when it comes to Bardstown, and they absolutely love it. Another thing Hurst offers is the amazing lunch counter. You walk into this section of the store and can literally feel the happiness radiating from everyone around. The diner section is complete with various styles of hamburgers and other sandwiches, as well as hot dogs, and you always get that side of chips. Not to mention the amazing milk shakes they have. You basically get two shakes for the price of one because they give you a milk shake, then a whole other cup of milkshake to re-fill your original cup. And the best part of it all, the food is cheap and actually really good. Along with eating and picking up your drugs and nic nacs, you can also get penny candy. Bags and bags of it. This is by far one of my favourite things about this place. Its extremely cheap to buy the lovely little treats. And if candy isn't enough to quench your sweet tooth, then they also have an array of fudge, a favourite around the holiday season. If you're looking for a good, down to earth diner to go to, this is the place. Nothing on third street can beat it. read more

This is a nice, old-fashioned drug store. I have not eaten here yet. I have heard that their milkshakes are good. My visit was to find a few gifts for friends. They had a nice selection of yard flags, humorous signs, nice ceramic items, items that go on a Christmas tree, a mantle, a keychain or your frig. I was sorry to read the previous negative review. My impression is more favorable. While there, I needed to buy an OTC drug and I found that without any problem. So in all, I left with a favorable impression and I will visit them again. read more
