Ozark Outdoors - bus transportation...the school bus
    Cynthia M.

This was my fourth trip to Ozark outdoors. Going alone: My first trip solo for the day kayaking!! Everyone had the same intentions so I never felt alone. Lots of folks from the St Louis area we all had a blast. Kayaking: Nice day! the water was perfect and always the perfect depth. No shallow places. No need to get out and drag the kayak, which I really appreciated... THANK YOU MOTHER NATURE. Camping: I've been camping, tent camping here before with my dog and my Meetup group... So I was very familiar. Want to check in They give you a map and it's easy to find your campsite. I usually bring a broom and trash bags playing the area. Store/Registration: The store pretty much has everything almost like Walmart. Cooking equipment. They deliver meals to your tent or RVs or cabin site Friday and Saturdays if you want the extra charge. Thank you for got anything I'm sure they'll have it at that store which is also the registration. There are eight restrooms near the registration/store. They accept all forms of currency. Handicap accessibility: I don't believe the registration / store is considered handicap accessible because the ramp is at a high angle with gravel. (I could be incorrect). Swimming pool: I've never seen the swimming pool. I'm curious as to where it is. Fun/Relaxation: Yes! Yup! And sooo much fun! Stay hydrated...drinking in the heat...ouch

Full service camping and resort on the Meramec river. My only complaint was the bathrooms were so far away, but they were extremely clean so it was worth it. They all had vents blowing ac into them too so you didn't sweat to death while doing your business. I didn't see one spider or other creepy crawly in there. The showers cost 50¢ for 5 minutes, but found out that some "5 minutes" were different depending on the shower. Make sure to bring in extra quarters just in case. They have a ropes course on the property and "canoehenge" which is fun to walk around. They have 2 beaches on the river to splash around, and also a pool. The mercantile has everything you could want or need while you're there, except beer, but a 15 minute drive into town will solve that problem. We all enjoyed our stay at Ozark Outdoors resort and can't wait to go back!

The water in the sanctuary area is soooo blue. I couldn't believe my eyes. We walked along that part first, then walked past the hatchery. It was so cool to see the trout in different stages of life. Dogs aren't allowed to swim in the sanctuary or hatchery, and since we have a lab who's obsessed with the water, we kept walking to reach a spot where she could at least touch it. Lots of people were fishing, so we kept walking until we found a spot where she could splash around. As you can see from the photo, she had a wonderful time. We kept her leash on and I'd recommend others do the same. We didn't want her to get caught on a fishing line or scare any fish away that people were trying to catch. We paid $5 to get into the park as we were driving in, and we were able to pay with a credit card. There was plenty of parking even though it was the weekend. Definitely recommend for a day trip from the STL area!

The guys the spotted my camper were real nice. Hookups worked at our site. No life guards at the pool, ergo no rules being enforced. There are security cameras at the gate and the Lodge... and yes even at the pool so apparently no one is watching them. There is a teen center/grill which we were excited about but it never did open the whole time we were there. The miniature golf course is not very usable due to disrepair and neglect. As you might expect, the prices at the store inside the Lodge is $$$. The Lodge itself is nice but it has gambling machines (a lot). Due to the lack of supervision this could be less than ideal for kids if given money by the parents. It's not like they check your ID to play. The people that work here are mostly crabby, except the spotting guys. It does have a laundry area that's about as basic as you can get. Some machines out of order. There are lots and lots of golf carts which makes it very loud and dusty. Apparently there is no speed rule enforced because people go way faster than the 10 mph posted including the head guy. Fire pits are mostly adequate and it seemed that most spots had picnic tables. Not very nice ones, but they did have them. There's also an "Adult center" with a pool table, dart machine and I think a jukebox. Nobody in there and kind a dirty. M/W bathrooms as well. Hope this helps fellow campers!

At first this was a little hard to find but once you pull into the property it lays out very nice. There is TONS to do here. Of course I brought all of the kiddos to enjoy the center. They have Archery, Swimming, rock wall climbing, a zip-line, paddle boats/canoeing and of course fishing. We started out by the lake to try and beat the heat. The lake is several acres big but not "large" by any means. It is stocked with at least catfish and bluegill. You are almost guaranteed to catch a fish. Even my 2 year old caught a bluegill. It was all catch and release of course. Next we tried the Zip-line. They stated it goes up to 30 mph which was plenty fast for my 7 year old. She did have to zip with me but that wasn't a problem. You actually zipline over the lake and it was very nice and controlled. We then walked over to the swimming pool and pavilion to take part in the snacks and swim. The pool is about 3 feet in the shallow end and was perfect for the warm day. They did have an inflatable water slide right next to the pool as well. We finished the afternoon with BBQ and snacks. I had the opportunity to meet the director or owner of Sunnyhill and she was very pleasant. Sunnyhill acts as a summer camp for disabled children during 10 weeks in the summer. The camp is overnight so the campers arrive on a Sunday afternoon and stay until Friday night. This provides a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to get a little break during the week. They hire about 27 counselors from all over the world. All of the counselors we met on that day were wonderful. They were very pleasant and excited to be at Sunnyhill for a great cause. It seems Sunnyhill is open also for corporate retreats and other events.

This is a family campground, clean, well maintained and beautifully situated on the river. However, it is on a river and with that comes rocks, mud, potential flooding, wildlife, insects, and some hardy partiers. There will be spiders in your cabin, the carpet is not clean, the furniture is old, lines are not plush, and pillows are flat. But toilets flush, water from the spigot will run clear after a few minutes and the mud usually dries up pretty quickly. This campground has quiet hours and isn't crazy full of drunks, like others in the area. But it is a take out spot for paddlers, so you will be entertained by floaters at the end of their day of drinking. Typically a nice rocky beach exists and you can hang at the river. Now if it's been raining a lot the beach may be gone. This is rare. Indian Springs is an ideal place to stay to float. At your appointed time you and all your coolers get to go on a crazy ride on an old school bus where you'll be given your raft, canoe or kayak for the day. Then you simply paddle down a cool, clear, fairly shallow river until you return to your campground for a hot shower. Even hot meals are served on the weekends (breakfast and suppers). Let's talk about the term "resort." It is used very loosely in this part of MO. The five stars is not for fancy luxury. It's for practicality. In your cabin, You can expect electricity, clean linens, dorm sized fridge, running water, air conditioning, beds and a few chairs and a table on a sort of screened porch. Fire circles, trash cans and some playground equipment are available outside. Pack the kids' bikes, a pet if you're willing to pay the pet fee/fine and your own beer. While ice is available, no cold beer is sold at the store. Horseshoe pits and shoes are available for free. Our family finds this campground awesome for our needs. We have a large group (60-70 people of all ages--this year we ranged from 4 to 80 years old. We rent cabins all close to each other, some choose the extra tiny motel rooms, while some families camp (not recommended for tent camping as too prone to flooding/standing water). We make large group meals--imagine packing crockpots, roasters, fish fryers, etc. There is a small swimming pool--but I believe the owners have had it with replacing the liner so it is going to be turned into a lillypad pond. We will miss it. But we've already put down our deposit for next year!

Bip was not allowed outside that morning. She was not put on the ground outside of our home until we arrived at cabin. She was in her purse at all times for the entire trip. Got to cabin36B at 1532 (3:32pm) Put up pin in gravel 1st thing. Left her there for 15-20 min as we unpacked the car and put away groceries. A hour later she started vomiting what looked like clear/ white spit. We thought it may be her flee meds given the day before or constipation due to the weird circles she was turning. Other ideas we were thinking were vestibular attack, elevation change, or possible bug spray/poisioning. Went to dollar general at 8ish and got Benadryl to see if it would help. Got back noticed it didn't have a syringe to administer meds. I went to my car to see if I had a saline flush, at this time the lady from came pulled up and ask if we were warm enough. I told her we were, and told her what I was looking for that my dog was sick and ask if she had a dropper or anything we could use. She ask could she come in and take a look at my dog. She stated she looked like she was "acting like the people "down town" on meth..last thought on my mind. Ended up calling the emergency vet hospital Veterinary Specialty Services 45 min away! After exam the vet said it looked like meth toxicity, and recommended a cystobladder needle aspiration to get urine to which she had to be sedated for. While waiting on the procedure, I finally ask them for something to calm her bc we have had to hear her cry at this point for almost 7 hours. It was devastating. They came got her immediately to go ahead and give her something to relax her. After she was examined it was determined she in fact had meth amphetamine toxicity. She was then admitted. We got back to cabin at 4am. On the way there we called the police to file a report to see what we could do. I ask them if they could come search the property or bring a dog or anything and they said there was nothing they could do and suggested I contact an attorney. The following morning I contacted Alitta the campground manager and let her know what was going on and what the the police said, I told her I didn't want to contact an attorney or take this further that it needed to go and we could handle this out of court, and she agreed. She offered to give me the refund for Sunday because she didn't need authorization to do that but she would have to wait on the owner or HR to refund Saturday night. She told me Sunday that the owner authorized the Saturday night stay as well and she would be reaching out to me. She was hospitalized in ICU until Monday morning at 4/23/26 Got refund Spoke with Alitta at 1650 She was not willing to give me names of the owners. Said for legal reasons. All she would tell me was Jennifer. She got very agitated when I ask. She would not give me a number to contact her boss or her bosses boss. She said she gave them my number and they would contact me. But they haven't yet. 04/24/26 1250: Finally spoke with Jennifer. Said there was an open investigation and she was not paying vet bills. And she had a lawyer but wouldn't give me a name. I called the Police Department back. Spoke with a Detective. He said there is no investigation on this subject. So this is the type of people you're dealing with. Be careful staying here! It could have been a child getting into the left over meth!!!
