I am in the market for an entry-level shotgun for skeet and field birds. Heard about this place and thought I would give it a try after work yesterday. I arrived 10 minutes before closing (5:50pm) and was greeted enthusiastically when I walked in. I told the greeter that I was new to the store and to firearms in general. After a quick discussion about what I was looking for, he immediately introduced me to an extraordinarily knowledgeable associate. By the way, at 5:50pm on a monday, this place was PACKED. But there seemed to be 30 or more associates working, so there was no waiting. Since I was new to skeet shooting, my person helped me look at different fits and helped me with some shouldering and sighting techniques. The prices seem in-line with what you would find anywhere else. I was not ready to buy that day, but I am confident I will buy there when the time is right! read more

Not a fan of Hyatt. Pros: They stock a lot of stuff. Cons: Expensive but the service level does not match price. Salespeople prey on the uninformed. List items as "in stock" on the website when in fact they are not. Overall: This is an old school gun shop that has not yet realized they are no longer the only option for local buyers. read more

Larry Hyatt will come off so nice upon initially meeting him but don't dare turn your back him, cause he'll screw you over in every way he can!!! I have reluctantly bought a few guns from him over the years and he is still the only place I have found that charges a fee to process your paperwork, even if you have a concealed permit!!! Recently he upped his level of crookedness!!! I went in to order a gun I had been watching on the website for months. When the price they gave me didn't match the website price, he changed the website price as I was talking to the salesman!!!!!! Wow, what bad service. Tried to by a Walther PPQ Q5 with a Trijicon sight. The Trijicon was not in stock and needed to be ordered. At the time I placed the order, Hyatt staff called their supplier to confirm that the sight was in stock. The salesperson told me that it would be in within a week. Two weeks later, no sight, no idea when it would be in. Called and called, promised a return call that never happened. The last time, I was told that it was "being shipped". Wanted them to confirm actual delivery but I apparently was annoying them so the order was cancelled. Really strange way to run a consumer-orientated business. read more

I went to Firepower and Carolina Sporting Arms before venturing over to Hyatt Gun Shop. By far, Hyatt's staff were more friendly and helpful. They have a huge selection of guns. I spent about 15 minutes with one of their experts basically designing the rifle that I wanted. Now, when they shared the price it was over my budget, but that is the case with everything right? So I went home and shopped online and found the same items at 25-30% lower price. I suspect Hyatt has a big staff and carries a lot of overhead but you get that expertise as a customer. I can order all my items on-line but there's a certain amount of compensation I owe Hyatt for their great service. So - just know that they cost a little more but you can't beat the selection or the service and that is worth a lot these days. read more

My shotgun (870 express) was having trouble getting the last shell to chamber properly. I took it in and on the spot they identified the problem (worn out spring) and had the replacement part in stock. For $10 and 20 min of my time my gun is working properly now. Alexis below posted about not needing a gun and gave the store a three star rating. Sorry sweetheart. YOU DO need a gun and here's why. The day you need one you may not have one. Then what? I teach firearms and gun safety classes and have had many women lately telling me why they decided to sign up and get a concealed carry permit. They also didn't think they needed a gun until they were assaulted. Women are looked on as victims by any perp who wants to control or harm them. A gun is an equalizer. You may never use a gun for self defense but there might come a day when you need one you won't have one. Consider the woman at Luby's cafeteria and whom on the ONE day she didn't have one, she lost both her parents due to leaving her gun at home. Consider the lying hypocrite Gabby Giffords who was shot in the head. She maybe would have been able to save herself and others. Consider the kids at Columbine if only ONE teacher had a gun. Consider the Washington Navy yard. Consider Amanda Collins who recently testified in Colorado about being denied the right to carry on campus and ended up being raped. Don't think for a moment you don't need one because you live in Dilworth. There are still robberies, assaults, etc that occur there. And please, don't blame the gun store or its employees for suggesting a common sense thought. You may come to regret doing so in the future. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM HYATT GUN SHOP! Went to Hyatt to sell my never before fired M&P Smith& Wesson .40 that I bought from Hyatt Gun Shop due to almost shooting a family member who entered my house early one morning. I decided that I would return the equipment. On arrival one gentleman told me that I would be taking a big hit on this gun of about 30% after complaining about that he called over this Redneck the Manager who then said I would take a 60% hit. The gentleman who told me 30% then said I never said 30% after I questioned the 60% Redneck tried to get out of me. I paid $925.00 for the Gun, Ammo, and Holster 8 months agp which was never used, unopened. They offered $510.00. They would not stand behind there own products. It was like he thought they would never sell another gun. He likened it to a used car, once you leave the lot you cant get what you paid, an I dont give a damn attitude. I then asked to speak to the owner Larry Hyatt and he said he would give me 75% of the price I paid for the gun but then would not take back the Bullets, Holster nor Cleaning Kit. I have no use for $300.00 worth of Bullets and a holster. Its unbelievable that this company is still in business. They are ripping people off. I have read several reviews and the consensus is that if your uneducated you will get ripped the F... off. Stay the F... away from this place. Great selection and don't be fooled by the prices because they haggle and you can get a very competitive deal there. If you don't like to haggle then check out their website for their online deals. That is where you find the usual rock-bottom pricing for the firearms they carry. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go to Hyatt's. It's located in the hood but don't let that stop you. Once inside you will feel very safe as every employee is carrying heat! Don't have a gun? Go there! Don't want a gun? I'm very disappointed in how I was treated today at Hyatt Gun Shop. After making a deal online and being told the pricing, I only arrive their to have the owner say "no". Don't let your staff make deals you can't keep. I even took the email to prove what was promised me, no deal. Here's the story, the prices in the store are way higher than they are online. If you see something you like, make sure you have internet pricing for their lowest dollar. Don't trust them when they say they are giving you the internet price, because more than likely that won't be true. Take your smartphone or labtap, so you can verify. Not long ago I decided to buy a new firearm for concealed carry. I've known of Hyatts for years so decided to stop in one day after work. Now I have a "dirty job" but I am paid very well. I already knew what gun I wanted, a Kahr PM9 with big dot sights and silver slide. I had the cash in my pocket to purchase the gun. I walked in the store, found my new gun in the case and stood in front of it for ten minutes with my dirty clothes and boots on. I was never acknowledged. I was looked at funny, but not even a "hello". I left. The following week I purchased said firearm from another Charlotte store. Oh and saved $130 doing so. Steer clear of Hyatts. Go to browse and waste their air conditioner. Unless you are wanting something exact, you will find it cheaper elsewhere. read more

In the past 6 years I bought 12 firearms from Hyatt. The experience has always been exceptional until today. I hadn't visited the gun shop in about 1 year. I walked into the store today, and it was busy as usual, but there were also salesman standing around. I was standing at the tactical counter waiting for someone to help me. I waited 20 minutes for assistance. No one even offered to help. There was an H & K SP5k that I wanted to purchase. Lost sale to Hyatt $2,700. On a side note Blackstone, Carolina sporting Arms, and Point Blank offer the same guns. In addition Blackstone had about 100 cars in their parking lot. I will have to give them a try. When there were shootings in the past Hyatt would price gouge to the extreme while other gun suppliers would not. I would never make another purchase from Hyatt again. read more

This was my third trip to Hyatts gun shop. The first trip I browsed. The second trip I saw a gun I liked and asked if they price match as Academy Sports had the same gun $80 cheaper. They agreed but I had to listen to complaints of me "taking advantage", and that they weren't making money while we did the paper work. Today I went in sell/trade a $350 gun. After doing my research online I expected to be offered $150-$200 for a gun they would mark st $360 and take $250 or more for. They offered me $60. Needless to say I left and and went to Ideal Sportsman in Concord off hwy 601, where I was treated much better and hit the new to me gun I was wanting for an even swap. I'll title this the "odyssey with hyatt" I went into Hyatt (12/19/12) looking for a entry level O/U for occasional clay shooting. The gentlemen that helped me out seemed to have little or no knowledge of the guns in inventory. Of course this lack of knowledge appeared after I told him I wasn't spending $3k on an entry level gun. I finally settled on the Mossberg Silver Reserve II. I paid and left happy with my purchase.........then i get home, put in the snap caps for storage and the trigger will not release!! I called Hyatt and let them know the issue and that I would be there 1st thing Saturday to return the gun. Saturday (12/22/12) rolls around and I am 3rd in line at 9:45am. I get in and they promptly apologize and tell me to pick out another. I go back and after 20 minutes am helped by an associate who tells me that the original associate that helped me out "didn't know what he was doing and that he wouldn't trust his opinion on any gun." I was thrown off by the fellow employee bashing but nonetheless he helps me narrow it down to a Stoeger Supreme and the Browning Citori. Understanding that buying cheap has already cost me; I wanted the Browning. Good news!! This is the associates old gun!! He knows it well and tells me he will help me with the price since one is not listed on the tag. One Hour (yes, 60 minutes later) the gentleman is gone and nowhere to be found. Then i see him - filling out forms for another customer buying a high end rifle. Well, at least i know where i stand. Enter salesman number 3. I catch him up on our progress and at this point i'm over this place and don't want them having anymore money of mine (lucky them you can't "return" a firearm) so I buy the Stoeger and go home less happy than before. A few nights later I am online trying to determine what chokes fit my new firearm and low and behold I see a webpage touting my gun for $699 and I just paid $829. So i go to the Hyatt web page and what do I see? They are selling theirs for $699 as well!! They aren't open on Sunday so i wait until Monday (12/24/12) and I call them. RING RING - "Hyatt Gun Shop - how may I help you?" "I just bought a gun from you guys and your website says you honor online pricing. is that correct?" "well, that depends on the website and gun." I say "what if its your website and the gun you sold me for $130 more than you have online?" CRICKETS (20 seconds)!! he says "bring in your receipt and we will give you a store credit. but you better come in today cause after Christmas our pay and carry online pricing will go up." I get in the car and make my 3rd trip to Hyatt. I walk in and a extremely sweet, however senile, lady tells me that they cannot honor online pricing. Thanks to the fact we live in a modern world i pull out my smart phone and show her Hyatt's T&C's and the gun that is $130 less. I ask to speak to the manager because I didn't drive 30 minutes on Christmas eve after I was told I was due a credit. After 30 minutes she comes back and say's that again she is sorry but there is nothing she can do. I take my receipt and turn to the other counter where a guy is and I tell him what is going on to which he reply's "she doesn't know what she is doing." In short to make a long story less long. I got a $100 in store credit (minus $29 because he would have to charge me freight - i bought in store?) Moral of the story? Hyatt will screw you if you let them and they are way overpriced. Associates tell customers that the other guy is an idiot. Shame on me for not having my research in hand. My advice to you if you are to shop here is have your research printed out and/or (as the owner said) "buy online because its much cheaper!!" read more

Being a girl I was quite intimidated walking into a store like this on my own. But once I was inside the staff made me feel extremely comfortable! They treated me with respect and didn't automatically assume that I didn't know what I was doing (however, that would've been a correct assumption). After asking me a few questions to find out my level of expertise and finding out I had barely any gun knowledge, the employees were happy to start from square one and teach me everything I needed to know. They were all so friendly and extremely knowledgeable. This store is HUGE and they are very well staffed. I was greeted and taken care of as soon as I walked in the door even though it seemed to be pretty busy. While I'm not exactly a gun enthusiast, this place seems to have anything and everything you could possibly need. From what I hear, this is one of the largest gun shops in North Carolina. It's family owned and operated and everyone who works there seems to really love what they're doing. They offer a few different gun courses including an introductory to guns course and a concealed carrying course. Like Dave S. said in a previous review, it's in kind of a shady area of town, but don't let that dissuade you because once you get in the store you'll forget about the neighborhood. I've never been overly impressed with Hyatt. I first heard of it when they gained notoriety for selling $1mil worth of sales in one day in the days after Newtown. It's in a not so nice area of Charlotte (thankfully they're aren't many) and the prices are high. If your local, you're much better off buying online and doing a transfer. The staff is ok, attentive and businesslike, with an undertone of 'buy or leave.' They have a huge selection and a very good website. For most locals, it's called 'High A** Guns." The only thing I've bought here is ammo and I don't really see that changing. read more

I placed an order for an item on 1/28/16. The website said it would be in in 4-6 weeks. It is now 5/8/16 and I still haven't received my order. Nobody from the store ever contacted me to let me know that it was going to be longer. The website still shows that the item will take 4-6 weeks. I contacted them via FB and they responded in a timely manner and the employee (Justin) was very apologetic and assured me that he would let me know as soon as my item arrives. Over 3 months for an order? This is pathetic. I almost feel like they just don't care because I am paying via a gift certificate so they already have their money. I will NEVER purchase a special order item from them again. My friend ordered the same item a week after me and got in within 3 weeks. If it wasn't for having this gift certificate I would cancel the order and go elsewhere. The store did call me once. They said they had my order in..... no wait it wasn't my order, they had the wrong paperwork. I hate giving bad reviews but this is just insane. Hyatt's Gun shop has some good and bad points. The staff is excellent and the reloading supplies are competitively priced. However, it is a gun store. The guns are vastly overpriced and they charge a "Brady Bill Fee". Nobody else does that....nobody. read more

Hyatt Gun Shop should be a lesson to every other business on Earth about customer service. Every single employee is helpful and friendly. There's none of the elitist attitude that is typical of many gun stores. They're knowledgeable but don't make you feel like a moron. On a practical note, I've purchased two firearms here and in both cases prices were better on their online store. You're probably best off buying what you want (if you already know what you want) online, then picking it up in store. My most recent purchase was this way, and I payed about $100 less online than the price tag said when the guy behind the counter handed it to me. Granted I've only bought two guns here, but I suspect such will be the case more often than not. Ammo prices reflect the free market. All the ammo I've bought here has been on par with gunbroker.com (I checked on my phone before buying), which I think is the best indicator of market conditions. People complaining about the prices obviously don't understand supply and demand. The demand right now is significantly higher than supply. There are two ways a business can react to that. 1) They can take the approach that Walmart has and restrict how many boxes each customer can purchase per day (which still leads to shortages as we have seen), or 2) They can raise the price which Hyatt and most others have done, reasonably in my opinion. Yes, prices are high and that sucks, but with this approach it is still available if you are willing to pay. Notice how Hyatt has plenty of selection, anything you want from what I saw. It's not Hyatt's fault that the demand is so high right now (you have the government to thank for that). I've never used their gunsmithing services, so I can't speak to them. I'll be taking some classes with them soon, and given the impressive backgrounds of the guys teaching them, I suspect they will be awesome. Hyatt's has two extremely strong reasons why you should shop there: Selection and Service. They have the best selection of firearms, east of the Mississippi river. And the level of service is unmatched. There are several "experienced" gunsmiths on duty every day and if you need something fixed, it can usually be done while you wait. The staff knows firearms and won't BS you. The prices are higher than online, however they will accept a reasonable offer. And if you are not happy, they will make it right. read more
