This was our first stay at Hyatt Place-Ann Arbor. It's relatively new compared to many of the available lodging in the Ann Arbor area. The entry and downstairs is very well decorated with a large bar and seating to the right and the check-in services to the left additional seating in between and then heading down toward the elevators, a very large area with seating that they use during the complementary breakfast. Our room was clean. I've never found two king beds in one room so I thought that was amazing and it worked very well for us. The bathroom was also very clean. The tub and shower area contained the large pump style shampoo, cream, rinse, and body wash. We really prefer that over the little tiny sliver of soap and little tiny bottles of shampoo. Generally, they put out one shampoo and if you have three adults in her room, it's not going to wash everybody's head. Our check-in was fairly slow the evening we checked in there were two people at the check-in desk, but I think they were having problems with their system and also problems with some rooms and therefore customers, so we got past from the first lady that was helping us and we were about halfway through the process to the second lady whom we had to start all over with. I would've loved to have given this place a five star rating, but frankly based on their Dog fee, I think a four start rating is generous. We traveled with our dog all the way from Texas to Michigan and Ann Arbor Hyatt place is the first place we paid more than $50 for one night for having our dog in our room. It was kind of interesting that the fee being $100 was what you pay. If you're there one night up to five nights -this makes no sense to me. Most of the lodging on the way up was between $20-$30 a night if Hyatt can't see their way to prorate it then at least have a rate for a one night stay and or a weekend stay that is not $100. I'll try to get off my soapbox now, but that was really hard to take and if we hadn't been exhausted and already checked in when we found out the rate we would've gone elsewhere. The breakfast was OK. I would've expected a higher quality considering the brand. They had toast, bagels, and prepackaged muffins available. There were three kinds of cereal, (they did not have oatmeal) which I heard a couple of patrons asking for. The scrambled eggs were plentiful because hardly anyone was eating them. They were either powdered or or liquid pre-blended eggs. There was orange juice, apple juice, and the ice water. There was milk for the cereal, but it was in pitchers near the serial choices. They also had sausage links and patties. I'm not sure if they had anything else because I was there for coffee and juice for my husband and son so I didn't have really much time to explore as I arrived at the breakfast area at 9:30 and they closed it on the dot at 10 AM. I think this is a great choice for families that do not travel with their dogs. Before we stay at a Hyatt Place in the future, I will be calling to find out the fee as I will never pay $100 for one night again!!! I should mention that this location of Hyatt place had many amenities had many amenities, but since we were only there overnight, we did not use them. read more

The Hyatt Place is hands-down my favorite hotel in Ann Arbor. The interior is well-appointed and modern, staring with a sleek atrium lobby that features a library, a bar and plenty of space to relax. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet during each morning of my stay, especially the bagels and hot tea. The heated indoor pool is also a terrific amenity on cold Michigan winter days. I stayed here with three of my family members, and we found our room to be quite spacious. The beds are large and comfortable, making for a perfect night's sleep. I usually visit town to see sporting events (Go Blue!) and visit the nearby medical school campus. This hotel's location is perfect for both purposes. It is also not far from Kerrytown, an especially pleasant neighborhood of the city that is home to many good restaurants and small businesses. Overall, I could not recommend this Hyatt more. I look forward to staying here again on my next visit to Michigan. read more

My wife and I stayed here on New Year's Eve with some other couples and their kids. The kids enjoyed the pool. We all really enjoyed the lobby and used the space to play games. Despite being short staffed, Barbara at the front desk did an amazing job taking care of us. We really appreciated her effort and kindness! The room was very clean and the bed very soft! My family stayed here for 1 night on a roadtrip to the Midwest in July 2023. The Hyatt Place is a relatively new facility (opened in 2017) with a convenient location near I-94 but 10 minutes from downtown Ann Arbor. It also has free parking and a clean interior. Rooms were quite comfortable. One downside is the unusual route needed to return to I-94. Without a dedicated traffic light to make a left turn, one has to be careful to cross the street upon exiting the facility during busy times. Another small downside is that it's basically next to an old office park that feels somewhat depressing. For a short stay on a road trip, that's not a problem. read more

The hotel was a bit far from campus, but with the nice weather (for late November), we enjoyed walking all over. It was a great way to explore the southern part of campus and check out the food options nearby. The area right outside campus has a more industrial vibe, but the walk past the lacrosse and field hockey fields on the way to the Big House was fun and scenic, especially since that was our main reason for visiting. The complimentary breakfast was a nice perk, and while we didn't use the shuttle to the game, it seemed like a great convenience for others. One downside was that they didn't have two beds available, and the pull-out couch was really uncomfortable, which affected our sleep. Overall, it was a good experience, but the bedding situation could have been better. read more

Update- 3/22 went down stairs to see if housekeeping would clean the room. Some hotels you don't have to but it's best to leave room to make sure they are efficient in cleaning. I spoke with one gentleman there and he saw the GM and she came over and was very personable, sat and spoke with me. Issue was communication, I mentioned the series of events that happened and the reasoning I did not go as first step was to front desk or call and just contact via app due to my first experience with front desk. The GM got the images from text but I showed the other which I used and she apologized as she mentioned the severity of how it can be. I was more so distraught due to it appearing to be fresher blood in color and how no communication to clean or change rooms. She made sure that they went to clean the room to their standards and apologized for no one addressing and assured they will communicate with the original individual at front desk. I felt better knowing she will speak with that individual and make sure this doesn't happen. I understand every hotel in and out the US has the same issue with staffing for housekeeping but some things cannot be overlooked. I hope that never happens for anyone. read more

The Hyatt Place reminds me of a fancy Hampton Inn. To be clear, this is not a knock - I love a good Hampton Inn! I regularly refer family and friends traveling to the area to stay at this hotel, and even though I live in the area, I too have been a hotel guest on several occasions. The Hyatt Place is an all king bed suites hotel with indoor pool and free daily hot breakfast buffet. I have consistently found the rooms and all general areas to be clean and well-maintained. Hotel parking is free (not covered), making it a great place to stay for travelers. Finally, the hotel is conveniently located with easy access to 94 and a short drive to Michigan Stadium, U of M campus, and downtown Ann Arbor. read more

A short weekend getaway for us 2 weeks ago and a first trip ever for our 3 months old baby. The hotel looks pretty new and well maintained. When we arrived, at the hotel lobby, they have table with lemonade & cookies for in house guest. We booked last minutes by points so it is understandable that we didn't have a nicer room or higher floor. The bed is comfortable as always. Nice size bathroom. We brought our travel bassinet so baby sleeps in there on our bed. Pack n Play from hotel didn't look decent enough to let baby sleep. And he is so young to play in there as well, so most of the time he is on the bed or his bouncer. Continental breakfast is good enough to have something in your stomach. We asked for late check out and were granted at 2pm (thanks to Hyatt membership) so we wouldn't be so rush. In general, a pretty nice hotel stay for a weekend getaway. read more

Stayed here for a Michigan football game. The rooms were really nice and new feeling. The lobby area with the bar / restaurant was great for meeting up for a drink or two before or after activities. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Just close enough to make getting downtown and to the game easy. Would stay again for a game. read more

Very nice, new hotel (opened 10/3/17) near Briarwood Mall. Full disclosure, I received a comped stay here last night as I'm a blogger who will be reviewing it. We arrived a little late, around 11pm, as we were coming from a wedding, and everybody from the check-in staff to the kitchen staff was so welcoming. We had a room with a king bed and I believe a sofabed, and it was HUGE - the website says 300-350 square feet but I'm willing to bet it was more like 500. They also offer rooms with TWO king beds which is unusual, most hotels are two doubles or queens. Breakfast is free and they have a large selection, I had waffles and all-natural sausage, and they even had almond milk too, which was a pleasant surprise for me. The only hiccup in our visit was when we had lunch there today - it's more of an open bar/lobby/restaurant type of vibe. About 45 minutes after we ordered some pulled pork sliders, we were told the kitchen had no BBQ sauce; we ordered a flatbread instead. Both that and the Korean tacos were good, though they were more like southwest tacos than Korean. I'd definitely stay here again, it's a gorgeous hotel and pretty close to the UM campus. The pool area looked nice as well, and the lobby has a lot of cozy reading and sitting nooks. read more

I had a really nice day recently at this Hyatt Place hotel in Ann Arbor. I was impressed with a very large lobby and breakfast area. Although, standard with a pandemic, the breakfast offerings were very limited. The room was fine with no issues. Everything seem to be clean and well organized, as expected. Also, I'm very sensitive about the hotels trying to survive these days with limited travelers and they did mention that daily housekeeping was "on request" only. I told them during my three night stay, I really wouldn't require daily housekeeping. My only disappointment, and the reason I am reviewing with four stars instead of five, was I left immediately after a long conference call my last day and didn't thoroughly check the room one more time for any missing items that I had not packed. I dashed out of the room and didn't realize till I got home that I didn't check the top drawer of the dresser for some clothing I had left behind. I called the next day and talked to someone at the front desk and they checked and they said nothing had been turned in from housekeeping in quite a while. I was very disappointed, because I'm very loyal to the Hyatt brand, I also know that housekeeping has their issues to deal with, but I wish they would've reported my missing items instead of trashing or taking them. read more

Wow!!! I just called the reservations line and spoke to a gentleman in AnnArbor. I inquired about the price and room availability and when he quoted me a price that was almost $80 higher than their website I told him I would continue to search online and possibly book online as I had seen it cheaper. He said and I quote "what you're seeing online is advertisements and not actual price with fees...next time get it together before wasting my time" ...CLICK! And then he hung up on me! I have stayed at this hotel twice now, and though the nights are bit of a lengthy price, I'd say it's pretty worth it and probably my favorite hotel to stay at. (and that's including the fact I've stayed at 4 Star Hotels like The Inn at St. John's) The staff are extremely kind, two in particular stand out; One whom I believe is named Patrick and the other is an older fellow whom I didn't catch the name of. Patrick is very casual and laid back, easy conversationalist and will help however he can. The older gentleman was kindhearted and soft, happy to help even though I'm on the younger side (some places I've stayed at has profiled me for my age and assume I'm a troublemaker). He also showed no judgement when I mistakenly locked my room key in my room within like 10 minutes of arriving haha. A couple of the ladies behind the counter were also kind from what little I interacted with them. Staff aside, the hotel is immaculately clean; Everybody is masked up, No trash whatsoever in the lobby or halls, no funky smells, rooms so far have not had any messed or residue/dander from previous guests. Admittedly I haven't woken up early enough to check out the breakfast quality, but the kitchen area is open 24/7 and includes a public microwave/toaster; They also provide fresh apples wrapped in plastic for preservation throughout the day and night when they're not serving meals. The pool area is closed due to Covid-19 but it looks spacious and clean. The workout area is simple, some treadmills with incline options and some weight lifting/pulling machine that I forgot the name to. The location is directly across from Briarwood Mall and has several food options close by including a Buffalo Wild Wings directly behind it making it in walking distance of the hotel. There's also a gas station [practically] in the parking lot and another one down the road if drinks or snacks are desired. Overall, love it every time I visit and hope to stay here in the future. OH! I also love the lights installed in the mirrors, and my only complaint really would probably be the water pressure of the showers. I'm also slightly too tall for where the shower heads are installed and the soap given makes me feel like my pores just don't exist anymore...like...I think dingy is the word. read more

Oh my gosh where do I start? From the moment I walked in the door I was treated as though I was long lost family! I was talking about boba tea and one of the staff offered to take me downtown to grab one! Then I was shown the downtown area! Next up was a home cooked cheeseburger with fries ! This is not your typical Hyatt Place of the past. If your familiar with the categories of the Hyatt brand, they have taken this Place up a few notches. When we arrived, we were greeted by two front desk staff and discussed our reservation and received a quick pointed tour of the main lobby area. The first thing I noticed was the deep Ann Arbor, U of M, and State it Michigan themes through the hotel. The seating in the lobby is in abundance including a reading nook, bar area, sofas and table seating that is primarily used for breakfast. The hotel embraced the modern barn doors throughout the hotel from closing off the breakfast area, e-room, and even used as bathroom doors in the guest rooms. The guest rooms are spacious, lots of natural light and added lamps. The Hyatt brand has the most comfortable beds always. Lounging sofa that functions as a pull out bed, large wardrobe and desk with plenty of power direct from the wall. I have to mention, that a bit more detail to cleaning the bathroom during the stay could use some attention. But I'll review the hotel/green policy as this may address my concern. The breakfast is your typical hotel hot buffet style, that was well managed. The hot food was kept hot in an induction oven style top. And the cold food/drinks kept cold on a cold slab, similar to what's used at ice cream parlors. The selected serving dish was an additional help at keeping things at temperature such as the eggs being kept in a cast iron dutch oven. The bar area is open to the main lobby, with plenty of large TV's to watch your game of choice. They are open 24 hours, and you can order from a late night menu 11pm - 7am if you wish. The location is in the south neighborhoods of Ann Arbor. Far enough to be away from stadium ruckus, but close enough to explore downtown. Don't fret having to drive, plenty of free parking. Across the street from Briarwood mall. And family friendly restaurants near by if travel with kids in tow. Every aspect of the hotel was well planned and provides a great experience. Plus, they were smart to install anti-slamming sliding doors, entry doors and toilet sets. So your in for a well rested stay. read more

Now I remember why myself, my employees, and my family gave up on hyatt. Reserved two rooms and the morning of departure both couples got extremely ill. Called a beyond rude person who would not work any options just basically said tough luck. Hundreds of stays at hilton and marriott properties and they always worked with us. Not hyatt. Better to stick customers and lose the inconvenience of countless future bookings. This is a fairly new hotel in Ann Arbor. I'm not sure if it was open the last time I was in Ann Arbor (pre-pandemic). The lobby has that decor typical of these newish corporate chains. There's a bar area that I did not frequent at all. And a section which had a bunch of tables, presumably, where they served breakfast. Quickly glanced at the pool and the gym after I checked in. The rooms, fairly decent sized with a clean modern business aesthetic. It felt fairly roomy, at least for the one with the king sized bed and the sofa bed. Didn't feel like you were crowded and had some empty space to move in. We also had an adjoining room with two kings. Doors connected the two rooms so it was more of a suite. That was convenient. The room with the two kings felt smaller, of course. Both rooms had mini fridges that were pretty convenient. No microwave though. Coffee maker also present. The bathroom had a large rolling door that open and shut. Otherwise the bathroom was pretty generic. Shower only. Rooms overall were clean, with no weird funky smell. I think we had no-smoking rooms. The housekeeping policy was a little different. They wouldn't do any housekeeping unless you requested it in advance. We didn't make a mess. The only thing we did was to occasionally leave some trash in a bag in the hallway and someone on the staff picked it up or to ask for extra towels. I'm a little conflicted about this policy. On one hand, you don't have to worry about that dread knock "housekeeping" if you forgot to put the "do not disturb" sign on the door or if you slept in. On the other hand, clean sheets and towels on a regular basis is also nice. On the 5th floor, there are a coin-operated laundry and a dryer machines. You can get quarters at the front desk or there is a bank across the parking lot that's is may 20-30 feet from the front entrance of the hotel. Behind the front desk, there is a 24 hour "market". The items available in the "market", at a cursory glance, seem to consist of chips and snacks and sodas. The hotel's address is on S. State Street. There is small driveway that leads from State Street to the hotel that you can drive by and completely miss if you aren't careful. It's also made easier to miss by having that bank or credit union in front of the hotel. The traffic patterns on S. State is pretty bizarre. If you are headed from downtown Ann Arbor or Central Campus, you literally cannot take a left turn from State Street onto the entrance/driveway of the hotel. As other reviewers also have stated, getting back on I-94 is also not straightforward. Oh yeah, and it wasn't just me, but the elevator buttons are not that obvious. Overall it was a pretty nice stay at this hotel. I would stay here again if I were to visit Ann Arbor again. read more

My company is based up here and this past week I stayed my longest stint of 8 days. I would have never wanted to stay anywhere else. The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. They went above and beyond to make sure I was accommodated well. They have a lot of hard working employees but I must say Austin goes above and beyond to make your stay a great experience along with all the other staff. I love this hotel! read more

About 10 min. from UMich which was perfect ... not too close to the influx of visitors for a hectic weekend of admitted students and not too far either. The staff was friendly during check in and explained in detail about free breakfast hours and check-out time. Parking was readily available. Gas station right next to the hotel which was really convenient for me. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy enough. Just had breakfast for one day and regret not having them every morning while here. A nice variety of hot items, fruit, pastries, and drinks ... pleasantly surprised. read more

This hotel takes total advantage of you on football weekends, orientation, parents weekend, graduations. They make promises when you book your reservations as to room availability, type and location and then when you check in, they have no responsibility to keep their promises regardless of the email trail and all the calls and effort you've gone to, even after you've confirmed multiple times. Never mind the 3 night full price minimums. They take total advantage of you and there is nothing you can do about it. It's a shame otherwise it's nice, clean, essentially self- service hotel in a good location for all Umich visitors and families. read more

Was in Ann Arbor for a long weekend. Room was very nice. Staff was very nice. After going out to dinner our parties ended up sitting in the chairs outside on the patio. Nobody bothered us. Did this a couple of times and was very relaxed. Only one complaint: The elevators were slow and they chimed with a loud gut wrenching piercing chime every time you passed a floor. I figured this must have been installed to benefit the hearing impaired. I was right because I mentioned this on a survey (from Hyatt). I then got what I would call a scolding email from hotel management indicating that lots of patients from the University of Michigan Hospital stay there and the loud, obnoxious chime is for their benefit. Hey man, I just filled out the survey. But I'm right. The chimes could be softer. You can also install lights to indicate floors and door openings/closing. Don't inconvenience 97% of the population to satisfy 3% of the population. And don't lecture me either. Would I return? Sure. The hotel is nice and it's close to the interstate. And yes, I will complain about the loud elevators again. read more

Pleasant surprise!!! When you book a hotel near a mall/freeway for $116 a night, you don't expect much. Boy was I wrong. Fantastic choice for a staycation w the fam. 2 King beds in a room is hard to find. Makes sharing a bed for the kids (and us) more enjoyable. Room was spacious. Nice little sitting area. The only negative would be the bathroom door w frosted glass. Did not keep out the light or noise that you dont want to see or hear in the middle of the night when someone goes to the bathroom. On first glance my kids were disappointed w the small pool but it served its purpose and worked out great. Beautiful huge lobby w a variety of seating, big TVs, and full bar plus bar menu (avail 24 hrs!) Super nice, friendly staff. Lots of extras avail to either buy, borrow, or get for free. We took advantage of the *free* breakfast one of the mornings. Loved the cute kitchen atmosphere they served it in. My only complaint was it wasnt kept clean or well stocked quickly enough for me. Each time we went up it was a bit messy and/or food and basic items were missing. Overall I would give 5 stars to this not-five-star hotel. This review falls into the category of "Didn't feel like a great job, but I guess I'll give them the Covid-19 benefit of the doubt." This HP was one of three we stayed at during a recent trip, booked with charge-card travel rewards. None of them were doing a "normal" breakfast, but this was the worst of the three. At others, I could grab a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich. This one had some saran-wrapped apples, oranges, cereal options, and such, nothing all that appealing. If there had been JD sandwiches that other greedily consumed, there was no evidence of a empty warming plate or tray that I could see. Hotel check-in also featured the most lukewarm reception we've received in a long while. I'm glad there was the normal great HP bed, and the room was as cool, and most guests observed the Covid-19 precautions by masking up. So it was an okay stay, though I expected more. Maybe it's just Covid-19 stress manifesting itself in unpleasant ways. read more

We came to the Hyatt in Ann Arbor for a conference. Staff was extremely helpful, grounds were clean and well put together.
