Too often reviews are complaints. We just wanted to recount a recent experience at the Cambridge Hyatt. My wife and I were meeting a friend staying there for lunch. We were just waiting in the lobby when Manager Brenda Valentine approached to see if we needed help. We didn't but told her we were discussing the restaurant at the top of the hotel which we loved. Turns out it is gone and is now banquet space. She took us up there to reminisce about the view. Then we met our friend and she walked us to The Paperback Tavern; introduced us to the restaurant manager, Kelsey and Parking Manager, John to validate our parking. To cap off the day and impression, our wait person, Rory was a delight. Kept us in stitches and provided fantastic service. Great location for the MIT crowd. Easy walking to MIT, Central Square, and even crossing over into Brookline. No, none of these are super close but if you have 20 minutes they are all doable. The room was clean and quiet. The hotel bar service was great. The room safe was the biggest one I have ever seen! Do people put laptops in there? The two things that bring it down to two stars for me were: First, temperature control. As in the room was set to 66º or something like that and I don't think it even got close to 70º. The second, I arrived at 5:00 PM or something like that thinking my room was going to be ready. I was looking forward to a moment to regroup, shower, and just be more ready for the evening events. Well, "there was a water pipe that burst and housekeeping was behind." Look, I get that sometimes things happen, but those are usually the times when someone goes out of their way to make you feel like a valued customer. Instead, the offer here was to check your bag at the desk so you could go somewhere while waiting for your room to be ready. read more

I think the current 2.9 rating is rather inaccurate. Yes, the hotel is beginning to show its age and it seems prices can be ridiculous, it can be a good option. If you're needing to be in Cambridge, near the universities or even Fenway, then this is a solid option. I arrived around 11pm and check-in was fast and friendly to my one night stay. Unfortunately, the Paperback Tavern had already closed and there's a lack of food options nearby. My room, a king with river view was quiet, other than what sounded like a neighbor bouncing a ball in the morning. Street noise was not an issue at all. The room was clean and everything worked as it should. I ate breakfast at the Paperback Tavern. As a Hyatt Globalist it was free but was rather simple and included eggs, choice of meat, roasted potatoes, and choice of bread and coffee or juice. The food tasted good and came out relatively quick. Checkout was easy and my bill was accurate. Prior to checkout I used the complimentary shuttle, which drops off at 4 nearby areas. Overall, I'm happy with my stay. I got a good rate of $150, which is fair. In the future I'd stay here again if I needed to be in Cambridge or headed to Fenway. read more

Unacceptable bait-and-switch reservation practices, ruined plans, and zero accountability from management. I am writing this review in absolute disgust regarding my recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Boston Cambridge. When guests book a specific, premium room category--such as a room with a balcony--it is not merely a preference; it is a contract for the exact experience paid for. My wife and I specifically booked and paid for a balcony room to relax and enjoy quiet evenings having a drink and morning coffee outside. Instead, upon check-in, the front desk agent coldly informed us that a balcony was "not in the system" for our reservation. No apology, no proactive solution--just a flat refusal to deliver what was purchased. To make matters worse, the initial response from staff was outright dismissal, offering zero compensation for failing to provide the booked room type. Only after pressing the issue did management offer a pathetic "compensation" of free parking--a meager consolation prize that in no way replaces the entire reason we booked this hotel: a room with a balcony. Offering free parking instead of honoring our reservation and moving us to an actual balcony room is an insult to paying guests. This property's handling of reservations and customer service is deeply flawed, relying on broken booking systems and dismissive staff who clearly do not value guest loyalty. Consider this a warning to anyone expecting the room they actually reserved at this property. read more

My original post was written mid-flight, so here's a clearer version with better details. The hotel is very nice overall, but it doesn't always feel like a true 4-star experience. I came to Boston for a work trip, and honestly, they cut corners in ways that surprised me. I've stayed at the Hyatt House before, which is only a 2-3-star property (also paid for by my employer), and they consistently offered more basic supplies. Here, I had one single bar of soap for almost two weeks. There are no microwaves in the rooms. Anytime I ordered food or had something delivered, the person couldn't bring it up--which I get for security reasons--but it became inconvenient to have to go downstairs every single time. They only offer shuttle service to the Cambridge area, which isn't really helpful. Expanding it to other nearby spots would make it a much better perk. The price swings were probably the biggest shock. Some nights were over $700, while others dropped to around $150. I understand supply and demand, but that kind of fluctuation is extreme. And for nearly $6,000 spent in less than two weeks, you'd think breakfast would be included. Instead, it's an additional charge. Covering breakfast for the entire stay wouldn't even cost them more than $250. The views are beautiful and the rooms are very clean, but there are definitely areas where the experience could be improved. read more

The service was great at the front desk and always available. They accommodated my family and I to get us early check in at 8 AM. Which is unheard of when the normal check in time is 4:00PM. After a long and early flight that was the best news for us. Other than that, the hotel breakfast is overpriced and not exactly the tastiest, they didnt stock enough towels for 4 guests initially so we had to go and get more. read more

Very clean!! I really liked the very white sheets with the very flat comforter that is on top of sort of encased in sheets. Because you know hotels usually don't wash the comforter part between guests. Absolutely Lovely river view. See pics. The outside of the hotel is nothing fancy to look at. But The inside view was very cool!!! Small issues: The first front desk lady tacked on a . Destination charge of $23 plus the normal $100 hold in case of damages etc. though I already prepaid the room PLUS prepaid the destination charge and taxes to get the best rate. The GOOD news is the gentleman checking us out listened and when I showed him the prepaid destination charge he said that charge would come off which it did. He was SUPER nice about it. He just needed to see the receipt. So if you prepay your destination charge--which happens when you buy from their hotel website---Please keep your itemized receipt and show it or you will get charged the destination fee TWICE. And certainly don't do online check out unless you know your charges are all correct. coughed a lot in the room. Likely allergic to something in the room. No coughing when left the room. ** Super nice check out desk staff Would give them 5/5 had that duplicate charge not happened. And had I not been allergic to something in the room Super awesome river view!! Really good food at their hotel restaurant. Kid said that's the best French toast he's ever had in his life. Check out this hotel because this might be your kid's dorm! *****Update: looked at credit card records now weeks later the Hyatt staff did NOT refund the destination charge on my credit card even I prepaid it and the receipt says the final charge was zero and I should Have gotten credit. Staff from the front desk, valet, concierge, restaurant, were exceptionally nice. Although while I was waiting in line at the Paperback Provisions store, a cleaning lady staff person (I think) pushed/cut right in front of me so she could speak to her friend (?) working at the counter, which felt super awkward. And unfortunately, my river view room on the 12 floor had a powerful musty, mildew smell that made me feel sick and gave me a headache. The hotel physical structure felt kind of grimy, worn down, and dated. There were signs at all of the elevators on each floor asking people to use the stairs "if you can" (including on the 12th floor!!!) because apparently the elevators break down a lot. The entire hotel needs the carpets shampooed, fresh paint on the walls, the windows washed (gross, hazy film on the windows of my room made worse when hit with sunlight), and updated lighting (the 20-30 year old greenish-tinted CFL bulbs behind old, yellowed plastic covers in the halllways and rooms contributes to the dingy feeling througout the hotel). Since my kids attending BU, we have been staying here a few times. The service has never been great but average. Location is excellent we can walk to MIT and BU easily. But everything else is disappointed. As globalist, we have been to many hotels and this one is one of the less impressive one. The breakfast that supposed to be free for globalist are limited to a certain $ amount. The body wash was empty so we asked for refill in the morning. But tried for over half an hour and no answer so had to go down to lobby. With 4 people at the front desk, no one answer the phone. While I heard another couples complaining about something, I listed all we need to the front desk and after half an hour, they brought a mouth wash and a soap bar. So we asked to have the body wash refill again when we leave the hotel. After cleaning up the room and back in the evening. All no body wash. Breakfast was subpar. We have been to Boston harbor Hyatt and their breakfast was easy better. Even offer lobster roll! The croissant was ok but doesn't look fresh. The breakfast potatoes was a disappointment We will definitely look for another hotel our next trip over. Disappointed. read more

I tend to have pretty good luck with Hyatt and this location rated as well as some of the others. Check-in was quick and easy and my room was upgraded to a river view, which is always a nice perk! From the 6th floor I watched sail boats and those rowing crew, which was great! It made me want to watch the movie Boys in a Boat again! The restaurant on the second floor was decent. I dined the first night, enjoying a steak before calling it a night. There is also a small coffee/snack shop on the first floor. That's the only reason for docking a star honestly. For the size of the hotel and the hustle bustle, there wasn't enough staff to keep the coffee line moving quickly and after standing there for five minutes without being acknowledged, I ended up walking away. The king size room was tidy, clean and well maintained. I will definitely stay there again next time I'm in town! The ease to get to and from the hotel worked very well to boot! read more

I enjoyed my 2 night stay here. I checked in late and even though I had reserved a room with a king sized bed there were none left. Kind of annoying. If I was with my husband I would have been really annoyed but since it was just me, it wasn't so bad. Hotel was full so they gave me a room with 2 double beds and was also a handicapped room. Room was clean. Lights on the floor were annoying and I wound up putting pillows on the floor so they wouldn't bother me. Bathroom was big and had plenty of towels which I always appreciate. They restocked my toiletries after only one day so that was nice. Front desk staff were nice and I was given coupons for the restaurant for my trouble but for some reason they couldn't be used for breakfast so I never did use them. Would have preferred half the amount of money to use on breakfast instead. Overall, good visit and I would stay here again. read more

Great experience! The rooms were very clean and we had an unbelievable view of the city from the balcony! The amenities were very nice including a huge gym--much nicer than gyms you normally see in hotels. They offer a tram service which was very convenient, but my only complaint is that they don't offer any stops on the other side of the Charles River. read more

Although the Hyatt app stated my room was to be a Queen with a Balcony, I ended up with a room without one. Under normal circumstances, I would be upset, but I prefer this over the alternative. Then again, under normal circumstances, the balconies of a room would be on the outside rather than in the inside overlooking the lobby. I had an award certificate for a free night, but I needed to stay two nights. When I booked my stay, I booked the first night as a paid stay and the second using the certificate. I thought I had booked a standard room for the paid night, so I could ask to combine both reservations into one. My fear was that I had to check out after the first night and check in later that day. Fortunately, I saw that my room would be for two nights. Although the hotel's website mentions a $20 per night Destination Fee (aka resort fee), I was not charged for either nights. I was attending a wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge as a guest. I had the pleasure of experiencing multiple locations at this venue. This included their pavilion, the 14th floor cocktail room, and the 16th floor ballroom. Not only were the sights stunning, but the interior of every room I walked into was exquisite. All the staff I encountered were extremely helpful, kind, and genuine. I would greatly recommend this hotel or any function. As I was a guest for a function, and not staying at the hotel I cannot speak to accommodations there. However, with the amazing experience I had, I would be keen to stay at this location if ever the need came up. read more

The cleaning staff were great and kept the place clean. The Front desk was not helpful or nice. Some people in my group received free parking and some did not. They wouldn't honor their discount codes. They were told to use it next time. Then you heard the manager pull other people aside and work out deals. We had to make sure to check out bill as we were double charged for using the restaurant. We were to be compensated a $10 credit for going to the restaurant as a perk, but we're not until we had to ask for it. Then again the manager was not kind or helpful. read more

Most people are here for business (be it to visit school or work) so I guess they figure they don't have to try too hard for this built in client base. I had an all around bad experience starting with 1) leaking faucet in the sink which I reported and they didn't bother to fix 2) shower head has such low pressure for hot water such that I basically had a cold shower every morning. I also reported and they didn't fix 3) they didn't have a txt number to check if a problem is fixed, so if you are working all day, be prepared to face the same cold shower the next morning 4) the room is just in mediocre condition for something you pay $300/night 5) the restaurant is under staffed so you could be waiting for awhile before anyone even acknowledge you and the food isn't great on top of poor service. They attempted to give me the wrong food. 5) the cherry on the cake is that they mischarged my credit card and not released the "incidental" ($734??? for 3 night stay) and blamed the issue on the credit card company, so now I get to dispute this charge because the hotel refused to help. Plus dont tell me that the credit card company takes 2 wks to release, this isnt the first time I stay at any hotel, much less a Hyatt. read more

Lovely hotel! It's big and unique looking with spacious rooms. It has a nice restaurant and very friendly staff members. It's not the most conveniently located if you're trying to walk everywhere, but if you're driving or ubering it's pretty fine. Parking is a bit pricy ($40+), and I upgraded the room for $30 to have a river view - also a little pricy but the view was really nice! It has an upstairs ballroom with an even better view that you can check out as well. read more

WARNING -- Faulty solenoid valve issue makes rooms subject to loud air condition noises! I stayed here in Feb, 2024 for one night. Upon entering I asked for the quietest available room. There were several rooms available and I was booked into a room on the 5th floor, which the front desk person said was the quietest. I went into the room, got settled for 5m and suddenly there was a loud WHOOSH! sound that almost made me jump out of my skin. I had no idea where it was coming from. I waited 3m and another one. WHOOSH! Unnerved, I called downstairs. I said I would like another room. Mysteriously, all other rooms were suddenly unavailable. They explained that somehow all the other rooms had become unavailable in the last 10m. Perhaps that's possible? They promised to send me an engineer. He finally arrived almost 2 hours later! He came into the room and said that there was nothing I could do about it, and that in fact, all the rooms suffered from this sound. I could not believe it. He said the only recourse was to turn off the ventilation system completely. I pity the people who need to stay in these room in the dead of summer or winter. I pleaded with the front desk to try to find me a room -- any room -- that might have a chance of having less of this issue. Not only could they not, but they offered no sympathies at all. No reduction in rate, nothing. Truthfully, the front desk people looked like they were 19 years old, and I suspect they are all students studying hotel administration at a nearby school and not experienced professionally. Quick, weekend getaway for me and my boyfriend. The view overlooking Boston's skyline was absolutely amazing. The hotel was also conveniently located next to everything. Hand sanitizers were stationed throughout the entire hotel, so worth it. Oh yeah, parking is $42/night. The room itself was spacious, very clean and cozy. The bedding was terrible though, it felt like a mattress cover in comforter form. Housekeeping didn't come either but i assumed it was due to covid. And you need your keycard for everything, including operating the elevators. I'm not certain if i'll stay again because of the bedding but who knows, maybe i'll give them another try. read more

2 people in our room, globalist members. Initially had 3 towels and 1 washcloth for 2 people, put all the towels on the floor to be replaced on day 2, received only 2 towels and 1 washcloth, even less than check in for 2 people. Granted, it's a luxury to have a towel for hair and body for one person but cmon, it's not cheap here so why are they skimping so much?! Had to call to request an additional towel and washcloth for the 2 of us. Ridiculous. Very cheap and skimpy and not appreciated for this caliber of a hotel. I have higher expectations for this price and hotel chain. read more

Fabulous stay to see Joan Jett, Motley Crue, Poison and Def Leopard at Fenway. We got early check in and was met by our favorite valet.."Rocket Roger!!" Amazing customer service and such a fabulous welcoming personality!!..Front desk was awesome!! Our room was spotless and ac on for us!! Very quiet for being in such a busy area!! Weekends they grace us w the buffet to beat all buffets!! Your own chef to make omlet of your choice!! My husband got everything omlet!! Fabulous pastries, fruits,oatmeal, bacon, 2 kinds of sausages, ham, tater tots, French toast, juices, coffee!! So amazing!! I typically stay at Hyatt's because I receive a consistent level of service and in the past have received the same level of amenities as stated in their advertisement. We expected nice restaurants and a pool. When we arrived, we saw that major construction was underway. The entire lobby is inaccessible and demolished. The pool has been closed for many months and I was given a paper slip listing food that I could have delivered to my room for breakfast if I returned the form to the front desk, at the fees listed. The front desk was not very friendly or well trained. Unusual for Hyatt. The room is very outdated and musty. It has a King Bed, overlooking The Charles River, as described. The windows are dirty and they only had a 5'th floor room- because there is a wedding during our stay. This hotel is poorly run. I asked for washcloths and water to be delivered to my room. The front desk said they would send them up. The washcloths were delivered. I asked the person to please bring the water. He said Ok. The water was not delivered or offered at arrival as usually done. I called 30 minutes later and the front desk said that I would need to come and get them myself, that the person performing delivery doesn't have access and she is working by herself. This hotel looks very beautiful in the advertising photos, but looks horrible when you arrive. No one told us that we would be staying in a partially demo'd building with none of the amenities they are charging for or advertising. Definitely my last stay here!! read more

I would give this place a 0 out of 5 stars but the lowest you can give is a 1. I'm not really sure where to start my review for this Hyatt. When we first arrived at hotel it was still to early to check into the room that we had reserved (which was fine because we were expecting that). They held our luggage until we were able to get back and get checked into our 2 rooms we had booked. Our check in went fine but our first evening took a horrible turn for the worse on the first night at 8:20 pm. At 8:20 pm I hear my front door to room open as I'm laying in bed with my "pj's" on. I start yelling hello as I'm trying to get out of bed and make myself clothed for these complete strangers who have just walked into my room with a key that hotel has provided them with! At this point my "guests" and I realize that the hotel just booked this room for them also after Hyatt has already designated this room hours ago for us to be in this room for 2 nights. Long story, short. I called down to front desk after the 3 gentleman left room to head back down to front desk to get another room for night. The manager I spoke with ended up giving us a $200 credit for our 2 night stay at hotel ( which didn't even cover the cost for 1 night at hotel there). Also our water front view room was obscured by a wedding tent they had right in front of room. See attached pics. The 3rd and final strike was on our second morning we went to there overpriced, mediocre excuse for what they call breakfast. We had decided to go for 23.50 warm breakfast buffet. The morning before we happened to see that they had a chef making omelettes to order for breakfast buffet on Sunday morning. When waitress arrived at table after already going up to buffet and seeing nobody to make omelettes for us on that morning I asked about receiving a discount. She replied oh well you can order 1 from kitchen at no extra charge. I have no complaints about that but what about the customers they were ripping off because they didn't know that you could receive omelettes from kitchen. Overall if you have money to waste for a mediocre experience this is the place for you but if you have higher expectations from a place that puts Hyatt Regency in their name go else where! read more

A very old hotel especially inside. The elevators are so slow. You need to depend on the shuttle but to get to the public transportation (Kendall Sta.) And the shuttle bus drivers are keeping lots of $5 bills in a plastic cup visible to the guests as if they are telling us to tip them $5 and not less. It was a total eye-sore to me. The bed headboard has many scratches and wondered how this happened. Wild animals or what? And this huge fan on the bedside table. What the ..... !? This is a very strange hotel to me. I will start off by saying that the view from this room was amazing. I was blown away by the views. The staff was alright. Not much interaction there. However the issues was what came after. Very late into the evening after dinner and drinks, we came back to the room to head to bed. While getting to bed we noticed both beds were damp and the sheet had a yellow stain. By this time it was too late to switch everyone was tired. So we slept around it and moved on. The next day I notified the Hyatt right away. After weeks of not hearing from anyone they finally responded. Their response was saying we did. Their stance is that 4 full grown adult women peed the bed. The rudeness and the audacity is unbelievable. I will never stay here again and I recommend you check your bed before you get in. read more

Stayed here for 1 night for business. After landing at Logan airport on a weekday late afternoon, it took me about 40 minutes to get to the hotel. Once you are on Memorial Dr., turn right on Amesbury St. as that is where the parking is. Parking is $40/night for guests. Pros: Affordable rate, I paid $160/night ($120 for room + $40 parking) Comfortable bed Excellent gym, perhaps the nicest one I've been to in a hotel. It's more of a fitness center than a hotel gym, as there are plenty of machines, state of the art treadmills, receptionist, and a personal trainer. Looks like it's open to the public membership but free for hotel guests to use Cons: I had connecting to WIFI on both my cell phones and laptop and called the front desk. They then transferred me to tech support, which was an outsourced service company. I spoke to a gentleman for 35 minutes trying to correct the issues. He had to place me on hold a couple of times to speak with the hotel again to confirm certain things, such as my checkout date, my room number, etc. The biggest complaint I have is the tech support told me the hotel policy is to allow guests to connect only 1 device to WIFI. That meant I couldn't connect any of my cell phones and only my work laptop. This is the first time I have ever heard of this at a Hyatt hotel, let alone any hotel I've stayed at. Housekeeping knocked on my door at 8am - a nice, rude awakening. They should know I was to check out day of (check out time is 12pm, btw) so it was unnecessary to wake up my jetlagged self in my boxers while yawning. A pretty "meh" Hyatt. The soap in my bathroom was opened and used and still wet (photo attached). The room has that musky hotel smell. Gym and pool seemed nice. I suppose this isn't meant to be a 5 Star hotel, but it's still not as nice as other Hyatt Regencies I've been at. The lobby is nice to look at. Location is decent for getting downtown, and it's also very close to the college campuses. Waterfront view was good to look at as well. read more

The service was solid here compared to other places I've stayed. You ask for slippers/toothbrushes and they actually send it up. But a huge ass bug fell onto my foot off the shower curtain while I was showering. Traumatizing and dealbreaking. Scarred forever. The drains and water system here must be old and gross. Good location with a subpar overall impression. The good: 1) nice location - close to some college campuses; 2) one side has view of Charles River; 3) they replenish bottled water in the room daily; 4) hotel shuttle to nearby locations - convenient for outbound trips; 5) bed is comfy and bedding is clean. The not so good: 1) could not check in online and pick a room - what's the point to check in online then? 2) we asked our room not to be near elevator, they ended up giving us a room on a much lower (thus more noisy) floor but charged us more as it was considered an upgrade with a view. Feels like nick and dime. 3) Front desk says room has two double beds, but it has a king bed - hotel info is inaccurate. 4) house keeping is hit and miss: requests for house keeping are not filled promptly; on the other hand, one time a house keeper showed up so early in the day that it was disruptive. 5) ceiling is low, interior design feels like a lower tier hotel, broken lamps, closet door is crooked and blocks hallway to bathroom; 6) had to fix the toilet multiple times- thank you for the "upgrade"! read more

There were plenty of positives about this hotel which I'll start with: - We were allowed early check-in which proved to be really convenient. - We didn't get the view but the hotel does face Boston and overlooks the Charles River which was pretty. - There was a free shuttle to Harvard Square and when the driver realized that it had just left, he used the other van meant for the airport to take us and three other guests so we didn't have to wait. - It's within walking distance to MIT, if you want to look around the campus. - Because it's not situated right in the city, traffic isn't as bad and it's easy to get an Uber. - The beef pasta I ordered to take to the room was surprisingly good. And then there are a couple cons: - The shower was dated and was dirty and/or stained around the drain. - We got back from the baseball game late and asked if we could order food to go (to take to our room). They said yes, so we ordered a chicken sandwich and pasta dish. The server made it seem like he and the chef were none too happy about it. Understandable at the late hour, but it's better to keep that between yourselves and not make your guest feel guilty. Just say no next time. Honestly, though, this was a great choice for us because it proved convenient, less expensive than other options, and we had wonderful service at check-in, check-out, and when taking the shuttle. read more

They should really just shut down during construction. Stayed for one night, front desk clerk could care less of concerns. NO amenities, no room service, no restaurants, no breakfast - nothing. Its a wonder they precharge your credit card for incidentals BUT THERE ARE NONE TO CHARGE. Ended up with a 100 debit (which they eventually put back) but why do it if you have nothing to offer. I asked to speak with a manager in the hopes of getting some comp and was able to get free parking for the night (a 42 dollar charge) but she made it seem like she was doing me a favor since according to her we booked through 3rd party and should have been made aware of construction. Well...I wasn't so maybe have Hyatt call guests and let them know of the fact that there is construction going on and nothing will be available. read more
