This review is only for the Family Birthing Centre (first pregnancy). Firstly I would like to say, the family birthing centre portion of the website lists exactly what you can expect before during and after and all the essentials you may need to bring with you. I am going to highly recommend anyone giving birth here to have a quick read. I arrived at the emergency at around 5:30am as I had starting having contractions, we were escorted by security to the birthing unit where we firstly spent some time being assessed (private area, bed, hooked up to monitors for assessment) before we were assigned a room roughly within the hour. The birthing room was large, private bathroom with tub, a lounging chair for partner. It was equipped with everything. Most nurses (throughout my 2 day stay) were kind, helpful, just there to get the job done. The on call OB was informative, decisions when to administer some sort of pain medications were made quickly, she even answered all my questions when I was informed I had to undergo an emergency c section. The procedure it self was well planned, there is a team of professionals in that room that all have a purpose. There were minor complications and baby was taken under care to another room quickly. Post surgery, we were brought to a private room, large windows, private bathroom, touch screen so you can order food (various options). The floor also has an area with coffee/ hot water station, a fridge filled with juice/ milk, sandwiches etc for use. The nurse do try and help with things like baby latching support, will bring pump on request etc. The only negative part of the experience was asking for baby formula, at sometime the request wasn't fulfilled in a timely manner. When our nurse was on break at night, the backup nurse told us to just wait till she returns all while the baby was crying. Recommendations: Sign up for at home midwife support if offered. They came home, checked baby weight, my stitches, they can even prescribe some medications and do tests at the comfort of your own home. Consider bringing your own formula just incase. read more

Staff are completely indifferent if you speak English. I am in here for the mental health unit and the conditions are deplorable. shared rooms with no ventilation. Staff push your problems off to the next nurse. For example a nurse asked me if I needed anything then when I said I needed Tylenol they said no the next nurse will have to help me. Then she said goodnight. She didn't even tell me her name. There are nurses but they can't give you medication it has to be this one nurse which is never around when you need them. Such a horrible way to run a hospital. the bad nurses names are : quality of care is good if you can get on their good side I guess I never saw that. Nurses don't even do their rounds properly. Don't update any information. Lazy and reckless, if I didnt have to be here I would leave. looking forward to discharge date. read more

Hi , I am Zeyneb Mustafa , and yesterday night paramedics took me to Montfort Hospital and I was admitted to Emergency Department , and then I stayed in Acute Care whole night until today morning , today morning doctor told me I can leave so I left. So since yesterday night until today morning , everyone took big care of me , everyone without any exception from nurses to the doctor. Today morning I met doctor Nicolas Chagnon and he was very humanist , kind , polite , taking care of explaining me and answering my questions and and and .... I thanked him a lot at the end and showed him my gratitude , and then before leaving I went to the desk were nurses and doctors are and thanked them also and told them : Thank you very much to all of you for taking care of me since yesterday night and today I will write a review about the hospital and about the doctor and about all of you who you took care of me. It was great in and out of the hospital , the staff was amazing and they take care of me as an out patient

The doctors literally gaslight me every time making me self doubt of my health. I went in tonight for tests to see if I had chrons disease since I have intestinal bleeding. Turns out it's not chrons but something else and instead of asking me more questions like did I eat anything that could cause my problems or what i did during the day that could have maybe caused symptoms, they gave up on me and sent me home. Right after my visit i spoke to a pharmacist about my symptoms and i ended up finally metionning that i get sick every time i eat dairy and all of my symptoms point that i have a dairy allery. The bleeding is from damages to my intestines ftom still continuing to eat dairy. I break out in rashes get lymph node swelling, sweats and bleed internally when consuming dairy. The pharmacist told me to get a allergy test done asap.. thanks to the shoppers drug mart pharmacist i know whats finally wrong with my health. I cant beleive no doctor could ever figure this out. read more

Been ongoing patient at Montfort and have great skilled surgeon there Dr.Robert Ian Grant who successfully performed my mastectomy June 29 2022 and follows me during my breast cancer journey .I've been to ER for post surgery seroma drainage and saw nice & attentive surgeons Dr.Daniel Trottier & Dr.Stephanie Malherbe...am grateful for being in safe hands and the nurses and other medical personel are good...I admire these people's intelligence and energy during long working shifts.... I wouldn't let my dog go to this hospital. They do not care about patients. I went in with a busted wrist and because I speak english they treated me like a non-human. They put my arm back together crooked, like a 45 degree angle and I am left crippled and can't even wipe my own butt let alone go back to work or have a life. I told them halfway through the cast period something was wrong and they dismissed me out of hand like I was some sort of child and they were the omnipotent parent. Left like, six messages over the course of several weeks and the ortho clinic couldn't be bothered to return a single one. They left me to suffer alone in pain. There was no followup to the procedure whatsoever. It was a simple cast, not exactly rocket science to a real doctor! I don't know how to hold them accountable for the malpractice because I can't get them to even answer let alone care. read more

I was so scared of having an upper endoscopy but from the moment I arrived at the hospital each and every person I encountered was kind and professional. I got same day results which was ultra helpful. I have to have same test done in 8 weeks but ai know I am in good hands. read more

Apres quelques jours, ils me retournent l'appel, pour m'indiquer que je dois passer par mon médécin de famille pour revoir la chirurgienne qui m'avait opéré. The medical care itself is good. But it is impossible to get anyone on the phone to make a post-surgical follow-up appointment. After several calls, when they finally called me back, I was told that I had to go back to my family doctor to get a new referral to the surgeon who operated me. Pathetically bureaucratic! I was admitted to the hospital on March 16th and discharged on the 20th .I had an Afib episode plus Pneumonia.ICU personnel were professional ,polite and helpful in all respects .The telemetry ward personnel(Doctors ,Nurses.Technicians and attendants) were all professional and efficient in handling my stay needs. Worst hospital in Ottawa to go to, I went in to get my hand checked because it's all bruised up and swollen and they told me to leave, not sure if it's because I was speaking in English and not French but the woman at registration was completely disrespectful and disregarded the information I was giving her. I live in Ontario and have received 2 phone calls (automated) from Montfort Hospital yesterday March 18th 2018 both in french. I don't speak french so don't have a clue what they were saying. I waited till the end thinking it would ask if you speak English push a number but it didn't and just hung up. This is Canada and the official language is still English with french as a second language but the hospital only see's french and does not care about people that only speak English. Very sad way to run a hospital. I think that if they only want to speak french you all should move back to Quebec or France. read more

I have been to this hospital several times with clients as I work with developmentally delayed adults. Out of every hospital that I have been to in Ottawa this is by far the worst service. I have found that the staff in triage at the emergency entrance are not helpful and are quite rude. Recently, I went with a very sick client who cannot walk well. After several hours I requested a recliner chair that I have used many times before at this facility. The triage nurse in emerge explained that they were all broken and therefore a liability. An hour later we were seen by another nurse. I again requested a reclining chair and she instantly went to get us a fully functioning reclining chair. The Montfort Hospital Emerge is by the far the least accommodating, least helpful place to be in Ottawa. Take the drive and attend a hospital that encourages polite staff that can understand the needs of all persons. read more

Awful experience. I was in the care and custody of the Montford for 2 weeks in which I had plenty of time to learn and then consequentially grow to despise it's workings. This is in large part to the doctor under who's care I fell, who sabotaged all his legitimacy in my eyes the first chance he had by giving me contradicting and dated diagnosis. Shockingly he followed this act of quacking with rudeness, and not in an amiable "Dr.House" fashion that can be allowed because he gets results, but in a dismissive fashion with an aftertaste of self importance. Luckily for my 2 week stay I only ever met him four times, each meeting leaving me completely shocked and to be frank - honestly angry that they let a man so obviously incompetent, rude and petty have charge of a whole unit. Besides that, facilities look dated and new equipment isn't completely standard, most staff I met seemed to be uncaring and detached. I would strongly try to dissuade anyone from going to the Montford except under the strenuous circumstances. If suffering appendicitis, I'd rather my appendix burst while on the way to further hospital than land in the Montford again. read more

It was my first time going to Montfort Hospital and it will be my very last time going to that hospital. I had to go to the emergency sector Montfort, because I was not feeling good and it was the nearest hospital to my residence at that time. The first point of contact personnel (she had short hair with a side bang and she was wearing glasses) was unprofessional and rude; she was mainly focused on gossiping with her work colleague. A patient in the waiting room beside me had initially asked if there are any blankets available; I said I would go check (she seemed like she was in some pain and had a hard time walking) for a blanket. I was in the waiting room for approximately 3-4 hours and it was literally freezing. It was the middle of winter and there was cold air coming out of the vents. I had asked a relatively young Female Personnel (with glasses) behind the glass window (who had initially taken my personal information) for a blanket she had told me to ask the nurse in front (knowing there was not a nurse in the front) she blatantly lied to my face with ease. I went to the front and asked the woman who I had first given my health card in order for her to place me onto the system; she was wearing a nurse uniform. I asked her for a blanket and she said "no we don't give blankets out", I told her "well your colleague advised me to ask the nurse in front for a blanket and now your telling me I can't get a blanket? why would your colleague misinform me?" she just gave me with a snarky look on her face; lifted her shoulders and said "like I said we don't give out blankets", I was taken aback and I advised the woman in the nurse uniform that I will go back to that personnel who had misinformed and advised her that she gave me the wrong information. She told me "not bother and go back to my the waiting area. Yes, I was angry at this point and I was frustrated, I then demanded a blanket and she told me to "watch my tone" mind you, I have been working in Customer Service for at least 10 years and I know how to keep it strictly professional and to keep my tone to an acceptable standard. I was left with no choice but to walk away, because I was shocked and disgusted by the whole situation and at how I was being mistreated by those who should be understanding and empathetic especially if your working in a medical environment. Now if that wasn't awful enough;The same woman who I had the miscommunication with calls my name with a file in her hands. She doesn't look at me, hands me the file and tells me to follow the yellow steps, but because she spoke so quickly and me having never stepped foot in this hospital prior to; I asked her to please repeat what she said because I didn't understand; She literally, looks at me with anger and yelled 'I SAID FOLLOW THE YELLOW STEPS' pointing to the yellow steps in front of the other patients in the waiting room at that point I just walk away because; I just don't understand how this is happening; is this actually happening right now? I just could believe these are the people representing a Hospital. Once, I got a room I had to ask three different Nurses if I could have a blanket. The first nurse I had asked forgot; which I understand; I can tell she was fairly busy with paperwork and other patient. I respect the fact that she at least had the decency to come and apologize to me after realizing she had forgot to get me a blanket. Before she had come to apologize; seeing as though she was busy I said I would ask another nurse. I see a male nurse walking; I ask him if he can get me a blanket he said yes. 10 minutes later I see him walking with a load of clean blankets in his hands; he stares at me and I stare straight at him thinking he was going to pass me a blanket he walks into the room where they store blanket, placed the clean load of blankets in there and literally walked out of the room ( as we are looking at each other) without a blanket; he walks right by me with a grin on his face. Thankfully, I had a great Doctor on duty that night and he was really efficient and detail oriented and he helped me. My mother was with me. My mother is a nurse for more than 26 years and she was appalled by the whole thing; she couldn't believe it. Initially, she said "the personnel's are just under a lot of stress; it a medical environment it can get very stressful" but by the end of the night she was just as shocked as I was that this was my experience. I had to write a feedback as to my experience, because this probably happens regularly within your hospital and people don't have the strength to stand up and say something. I am writing you to prevent this from happening to someone else in the future. What I went through was unacceptable and if that means going the extra mile to go to General next time then that is exactly what I will do. I will never suggest Montfort Hospital to anyone and I will be opened and honest as to letting people know how I was treated by your personnel. read more
