Quaint little hotel VERY close to Gare du Nord, Gare de l'Est and, the Metro. Staff was very friendly and allowed me to drop my bags at the hotel at no charge prior to check in, I arrived at 1030 and check in is not until 1400.
Down to the goods. Now first I'm going to note that I am no big fan of lifts in the first place, but the lift in this place is well, a bit unnerving. One can stand in the lift and touch all points inside without moving a step and, when you select your floor it moves very quickly. However it also stops as quickly as it moves and bounces about a bit when stopping.
The room was adequate, just keep in mind here when you book a room, you get just that, a room. The bathroom is quite small, even for France. You have to kind of maneuver around the sink to get to sit on the toilet which is quite awkward and the shower is just big enough to stand in and spin around, so long as you keep your arms at your side.
Lastly, the room I was in faced the road and, with no air-conditioning to speak of it gets quite stuffy in the room. Solution, open the window, right? Wrong, bd Magenta is a main road and has a very high volume of traffic until around 2200 and with a Hospital nearby Ambulances frequent this route with sirens sounding. So if you plan to be sleeping prior to 2200 and staying asleep, opening the window is not an option.
That all being said, this was the perfect option for me during my Paris stop on my Tour of Europe. The breakfast of breads and croissants with yoghurt, cheese and, tea. This hotel is only what I can describe as quintessentially Paris. From the sketchy lift, to the odd color paint. The tiny size of everything, what else would you expect when you think Paris. You thought that was going to be a negative outcome, didn't you? Yes this hotel has it's oddities, but I couldn't imagine having stayed anywhere else. I hope to stay there again on my next journey to Paris. read more
