We first stayed on the 5th floor and the room was super small, noisy and the air conditioner make horrible noises in the middle of the night. We complained with the staff and they moved us to the second floor to a more spacious and comfortable room. We had a pleasant stay here.

Included in the room rate that the Conference arranged for was the hotel's breakfast buffet. It was standard Belgium styled buffet, above average in selection and quality. Really nice change, especially when it took me 21 hours of travel and having airline foods, and so I sleep in a comfy bed, and wake up to REAL food! The conference facilities were really nice and what stood out was they refreshed the water after every break! Offered still water (non carbonated) and carbonated water for each pair of attendees in glass bottles. All side drinks were in glass bottles as well. The conference provided lunch was a nice selection of sandwiches, quiches, and salads, with finger sized eclairs - really nice. First impressions very important. After check in, the very nice and personable front desk worker escorted me to my room, showed me all the features, and explained some of the hotel amenities along the way, gave me a contact number and wished me a nice stay. A nice personalized tough I thought. Check out was efficient with no wait. Housekeeping A+ with workers who made sure to greet you when you ran into them in the hallways. I did not get to explore the area much, but it is located on Avenue Louise with a lot of higher end shops. But by walking just a block or so, there quite a mixture of other places, smaller stores, grocery stores, mini pharmacies, etc. But it is a bit away from the city center. So a nice, solid place to stay, with nice service and would definitely stay again.

We came back from dinner to find it open...when I let the front desk know, they asked if anything was missing and if we wanted them to look at surveillance cameras, we said nothing was missing but we did want them to check cameras, they never followed up. I asked to speak to their GM, they said he's on holiday - funny that the next day I get an automated email from "him" asking about my stay. The location - good and next to transport, though about a mile from Brussels central square. The service - terrible. Our fridge was broken for over 24 hours. We had to ask 3 times for them to fix it. It took 20 minutes to get a cocktail at the Louis bar and quite frankly, it feels like no one wants to be there. The breakfast buffet - ok, for 40 dollars, I feel like it should have been more unique. It had all the basics, but nothing over the top and if it's not included in your stay, I'd opt out. The bar - its 20 dollar drinks... and a 30 dollar club sandwich... will leave it at that The room - huge, but outdated and the beds were terrible. The outlet was on the verge of falling off the wall and the shower has no light. The pool - is 35 euros a person, they bait you into thinking the pool is their property but it's actually part of an independent spa. It's just too expensive for what you get.

I had a quiet room facing an interior green area. My room was warm but I was able to open the window and that made it very pleasant. And it wasn't noisy at all other than the church bells ringing late in the morning but that was a joy to hear. The area around the hotel is wonderful. And so walkable. Many great restaurants close by and a grocery store right around the corner. You can walk to the Grand Place by going right or left out of the hotel. Close to everything but in a nice and quiet upscale area. I look forward to my nice time here.

Do not stay here…read more AC did not work in two different rooms, on very hot days. We were allowed to move after one very unpleasant night. When the AC didn't work in the second room, We were told to open the window. We were told we could not move again because the hotel was booked the NEXT night. I asked why they were not allowing us to move to an empty room for THIS night and they said the manager would have to approve and he was gone for the weekend. When we asked if the AC could be fixed, they said the technician was gone for the weekend. The AC worked very well in my daughter's room. In fact, she was chilly. The restaurant is overpriced and the food okay, but not great. The carpets are dirty and the bathroom has an odor.

One day, it was cooler outside than in our room. We made 3 calls about this issue, but they were never able to cool it down. They did quickly offer and deliver a portable fan, so I suspect this is a common issue here. If you're like us and prefer a cool room to sleep in (it was always 23 degrees Celsius or more in our room), you should check elsewhere.

I had a room on the top (7th) floor, which was odd because the elevators only went to the 6th floor and then you had to take stairs up. That was fine, but just a bit odd. The room was clean and simple with a small table to work at and decent bathroom. I also got to check in early, so I could actually grab a shower and nap after my redeye flight, which was very nice. The restaurant in the hotel was well-above-average. Breakfast had a nice selection of scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, and a few vegetables. I had dinner one night where I had Octopus, crème brûlée and Chimay Blue beer. All of which were very good. The location was also convenient to my office, most of the European Commission buildings and some basic touristing.

Service: I was greeted, acknowledged for my status tier and was told that an upgrade was available but that the only difference would be the addition of a coffee maker and welcome amenity. The aforementioned was provided to my non upgraded room. I opted for the $10 daily food and beverage credit, to which the Front Desk Agent was able to provide for two. The Room: it was standard and comfortable but that was about it. The biggest drawback was not being able to lower the in room temperature to below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Even with the heater unit off, the room still felt extremely humid. At one point in the night, and I was woken up to my friend attempting to open the windows that were sealed shut. Even coming back in the evening after a full day of exploration, the room still felt extremely warm. We had phoned the Front Desk and an agent came to our room promptly to address the situation. Initially the agent felt that the room should cool down if we leave the heater unit off. As the room still felt extremely warm, and the agent unable to guarantee that the room would cool down; we were offered to change rooms. And so we did. The Morning After: well, the new room also felt extremely warm throughout the night. Upon my departure of the hotel, I was told that unfortunately the temperature settings cannot go below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, as it is normally much colder in January and so the heaters are meant to negate the colder temperatures. Not the greatest answer to hear as much of night was sweaty. The hotel served a purpose for my time in Brussels but that I may not stay here again in the future.

After my first couple of stays, they realized I was a regular and would leave me nice notes on Mechelen post cards. This hotel is clean and gorgeous. You will find peeves of art tucked away. Each time I stay, I discover something new! The first few times I had a basic room that was brilliant but later I started getting upgrades to more unique rooms. One room was a suite with a double sided fireplace. The beds were always comfortable and I enjoyed the modern aesthetic. The hotel restaurant is amazing. I have enjoyed many dinners here dining on the regional specialty, Michelin Chicken, but my favorite part of every dinner was their accompanying salad with cheese croquettes! However, I must say that while I would take the opportunity to dine elsewhere for dinner, I would never miss a breakfast there. Breakfast at the Mercure is epic! A buffet style with standard European fare: breads, meat and cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, muesli, smoked salmon and lox. However, they have a woman that would cook eggs to order and she was amazing! She would do omelets or however you wanted your eggs with sausage or bacon. Also included was a gorgeous coffee bar where you could make a latte, cappuccino, espresso or whatever coffee concoction you desire. Located in a nice area- a small river in front- across the bridge is a supermarket and there are nice restaurants and chocolate shops around. A short walk to the city square and several historical sites. Prices were standard and fare. I never felt gouged and enjoyed the simple elegance of the entire experience. The room I had was ok but the toilet was more or less in the open area of the room. This would have been a bit problematic if rooming with anyone. The staff were helpful and efficient. There was normal housekeeping in effect. The breakfast room was large and well supplied with all the normal items plus an omelet chef on standby for orders. The neighborhood was central with plenty of shops, restaurants, parking, and groceries nearby.
