Tip: I recommend using the Credit Karma app to monitor any changes to your credit report. I don't…read morerecommend the loan suggestions because the loan companies charge high interest. It's not worth it, especially if you are trying to pay off your debt. My review pertains to Credit Karma in Canada. I've been using it since October 2024. I went through a major debt consolidation that month, which has proved to be great so far. I was encouraged to monitor my credit rating and have been using Credit Karma as a tool. It has its pros and cons, as with any tool. Signing up for Credit Karma is free. You download the app, which allows you to access your credit score, credit report, and monitoring services. A month into using Credit Karma, I learned that a loan company reported that I was late with a loan payment. As a result, my credit score took a nosedive. I was not impressed. First, I didn't have a loan with this company. Second, if I don't have a loan, why am I late with a payment? I don't have the money from you. I don't have a loan number to pay anything, so what exactly are you reporting? I contacted this loan company. It said that it would fix my credit report to say that I don't have a loan and am not late with any payment. Roughly two months later, this company did fix the issue. I had to call Trans Union of Canada, which is the credit bureau that this tool uses, about this issue. While we were at it, it had a lot of incorrect information on my credit report. Some of the issues: - My current mailing address was a mix of my apartments in Winnipeg and Rochester, MN - My employer was a company that I worked for two decades ago - My phone number was a cell phone with a Winnipeg number - My name had roughly three different variations I got everything fixed, which was great. You get an updated credit rating every seven days. I personally find it excessive. If you have used your credit card such that it's nearly at the limit and Credit Karma takes a snapshot of your credit rating, your rating will be lower and you'll get a notification. However, if you have paid off your credit card and Credit Karma checks your credit rating, it'll be higher. I compare this polling of your credit rating to weighing yourself every day. If you do it often, the results can make you anxious because you're focused on it daily. You don't need to check your credit rating or weight that often. I like the articles that Credit Karma has on various topics, from taking out a loan and its affect on your credit rating, to how to fix your credit report. They are helpful. I don't like the reminders to sign into the app. When I'm in the app, I get a constant reminder to turn notifications on. I don't. I get updates through e-mail. I don't need reminders flooding my phone. I'm guessing that Credit Karma is free thanks the company generating its revenue through targeted advertisements for financial products. I often see credit cards and loans. These financial products also have pros and cons. If your credit history is far from stellar, Credit Karma can suggest credit cards to build your credit or get you approved for a credit card with higher interest. What I don't like are the loan companies that it's affiliated with. It mentions applying for loans from these companies: - Mogo - EasyFinancial - Spring - Fairstone The first one is a payday loan company. All four companies charge high interest on loans. You can easily get into debt if you sign up for these credit cards and loans. It's like a vicious cycle if you are trying to reduce your debt, but Credit Karma is promoting such products that don't really help you pay off your debt thanks to the interest. I like that it alerts me on changes to my credit report. I log in once a month to look at my credit rating and report. Other than that, I don't apply for loans or credit cards. (65)

If you do your own taxes using Intuit's TurboTax, you know that you just want Io do it and be done…read more Not so fast Hombre. The usually reliable TurboTax service has morphed into an infomercial for Intuit's latest acquisition, personal finance digital answer bro, Credit Karma. Before you can pay and file you are literally forced to set up a Credit Karma account. I'm leery of trusting my personal data to TurboTax (and I've been using them for a decade with no problem.) What I don't need is my information floating around the cloud with their Gen Z busybody who I have no interest crawling into bed with. I cancelled once I filed but their insistence was just another speed bump to be navigated in addition to the constant badgering from TurboTax to upgrade to their full service/human offerings. I get it, they are going to leverage your full attention as long as they have it but I don't have to like it or be quiet about it. Two nuisance stars.
