They must have not perfected that service yet. OK I ate the cost of that. 2. Had a 1:30 appoitment. Thy sent me TWO confirmations. I show up at 1:30 told it would be a 15 minute wait. Ok. I had taken off a half day of work so that was fine. At 1:50 I am told there is no one here to do the service. After I toll time off! I was offered a "conditioner" next time. I was booked for color. Don't need a conditioner. I said "how about half off color next time" Nope. Can't do that. So I had to leave. I know it is a school but I had an APPOINTMENT--please CALL next time before I head over and miss work and certainly don't act like it is my problem and I should accept the gift of a servie I do not want or need. It looks so much nicer inside than last time I was there! It doesn't feel as outdated anymore. My hair is very long so I couldn't sit in the chair for my cut, and Cayla did an awesome job! Not only did she consult me about my daughter's hair, but she got down on my daughter's level and made sure the colors were exactly what she wanted, asked about the placement and was incredibly patient. I don't know much about hair coloring or highlights, so I explained the look I wanted and even showed a Pinterest picture for reference. My appointment was at 9:30 AM, but the consultation and color mixing alone took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The first highlight wasn't even applied until almost the second hour of my appointment. When the highlights were finally done, they turned out extremely light -- almost blonde -- which was shocking because that's not what I asked for. The instructor had to step in and help correct and even out the color. This is also not my first unpleasant experience with one particular Latina instructor with dark hair. Both times I've been there, she has been very rude and rough while handling my hair. Her long nails scratched my forehead multiple times, and she pulled and grabbed my hair very aggressively. When I politely asked her to be more gentle, her response was, "I'm just trying to make it fast." To be fair, the final results didn't turn out bad after they corrected the color, but I didn't leave until 4 PM for a 9:30 appointment. I've previously been to Tricoci University, and they were much friendlier, more professional, and much quicker with their services. I wanted to give Empire another chance, but the instructor's attitude and behavior made the entire experience stressful and uncomfortable. Sadly, I won't be going back.

The first time I had made an appointment, when I showed up, salon services were not even open! Today they said there was no appointment for me. I showed them my phone with the call on it. They didn't think it was the right number. When I hit redial, their phone rang. So that was the difficult part. The good news is Nareni did have time to cut my hair. She was kind, thoughtful, and did a great job. So in the end, everything did work out. She was so good that I already booked my next appointment. I am seeing a response to a negative review that says instructors keep a close eye on students. Not true in my case. There was no instructor to monitor my cut. I'm not sure where they were, but I didn't see anybody. I am grateful that I did end up getting a good cut with a very pleasant student.

There is no main book at the. Desk or computer. They are booked out for two months to do facials. And can't promise anything. They need to be available for the student but can't tell you when they can do or able to book on what days. They definitely need some system. Inside 5 people who want to help kids get through and can't book anything. I want mens and women's. Hair, nails ,mani ,pedi ,facial , waxing, and they can't even help with schedules. I have been to several schools in the past and this by far is the most un organized one. I have cold called and booked with strangers in the past. Why is this so difficult. They are definitely not where you want to send anyone as a student. I also had a service and they did not ever look or see what they were doing. The teacher also just to it upon her self to do part of the service and not educate as they did it. The staff has very angry attitudes and not friendly at all. They are mean and nasty. I felt like she was bothered by having to talk to me. I was also told no service they have other students to do their work on. So if you plan on going don't. I've never seen rude or unprofessional behavior from any of the teachers. I've seen unprofessional behavior from some students occasionally but the teachers put a stop to it. After all this is a school and btw has a top rating from the state of Illinois. I looked into it before my granddaughter went to school there. They were extremely helpful in making sure she knew her stuff and was ready for the state boards. If you want this type of career you won't find a better school but like anything worth having you will have to work at it , but you won't find a better school to make sure you succeed!

I have been going and spreading the gospel of Shana for all the years since my last review. Because I moved to St Louis and then covid ruined my year in Chicago, I didn't get to have many haircuts with her in the past six years, but I did when I could, and the few times I've had to settle for an emergency haircut elsewhere (Chicago Chinatown, flushing new york, etc) , no one was good as her. To me, what makes her incredibly special is how great my hair can look without any effort. I am a very low maintenance person, and no one else has ever given me a haircut that looks great just by me air drying my hair lazily. Plus, if I let my hair grow out, it somehow maintains some semblance of shape for a long, long time. How!! It's magic. Nowhere else have I been able to get this. Sure this is just one person's low maintenance needs. But honestly it's a big ask for a stylist - give me a nonboring haircut, but I don't want it to look like crap when I don't style it. No one else has been able to do achieve that for me. And from the time I've spent in the waiting area/waiting for my hair to dye, etc, and seeing other clients come through, it is clear Shana strives to understand each person's needs individually. And of course she's always offering advice based on each person (that you should always listen to!) All the things I said in my previous review are true still, she is of course a skilled technician. But also magical, to me at least. And I know it's just hair! But it was always great knowing I could always rely on Shana for a great haircut, and this void has been hard to fill now that I moved. Everyone should go to Shana, especially if you have thick Asian hair like me!
