I came here 1-1/2 months ago for the first time. Amadeo has been cutting my friend's hair for years and years, so when I was looking for a new salon, I asked her where she went. The staff here was friendly and welcoming, as was Amadeo. He was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. My friend has straight hair and mine is curly & frizzy, so I was a little hesitant about doing this. But to my delight, he knew how to cut curly hair! He listened to what I wanted and improved on that! He knew what he would need to do to give me what I wanted. I was extremely happy with the hair cut he gave me. It was very flattering! I've had some serious bad luck finding someone who can successfully create the high intensity red I prefer for my hair. I've been through THREE stylists within a month trying to match what I formerly had from an angel who is no longer in the biz :( So I tried On Stage with much skepticism, but Marissa took the challenge and nailed it! I had Tina do my hair for my wedding, and she was great. For my trial, I showed her two pictures, and I told her that I wanted a combination of the two, but I wasn't really sure how it would work. She looked at it for a few minutes, and then just got started. It turned out great, and there were just a few small changes I wanted for my actual wedding. Fast forward to my wedding day, which was about a month later. I brought in pictures of my hair from my trial, and she said "oh I don't need those, I remember what we did" - and she certainly did! She made the changes we talked about, and my hair looked exactly the way I wanted it to, and it held up ALL NIGHT. I can't speak for the other stylists there, but I highly recommend Tina! read more

It had been about 2 years since my last haircut and my hair had grown about 2 feet. This was mostly because I was nervous about finding a new hair stylist. I had walked past On stage Salon and spa for months and finally decided to make an appointment online and I'm so glad I did! My hairstylist was Marisa and she did a phenomenal job! From the moment we walked back to her station, she put me at ease. I asked her to cut about 8 inches off and add long layers! My hair feels so much lighter, healthier, super bouncy! I have recieved a mani/pedi-which was relaxing...but felt very rushed. I also had my hair cut/styled, it didn't seem anything out of the ordinary-and I prob wouldn't pay that much for a simple cut again. I do LOVE getting my brows done at On Stage-I got them done once there not so great, but I have gone back repeatedly for ANGIE, she's amazing and knows the eyebrows you need for your face-I highly recommend her! read more

I wanted this place to blow my socks off...fail. I came in with a friend on a Sunday (yay for being open on a Sunday!!) to get a spa mani/pedi. We were the only two there getting our nails done at the time so we got our services done together, which was nice. This should have been a 4 or 5 star experience, but my fingernails look like a child painted them :( My toenails look just OK. I don't get it. The spa part of the mani/pedi was awesome. It was soothing and relaxing, but I can't get past the fact that I could paint my nails better. Talk about disappointing! Luckily, this was just for fun and not for any particular occasion. I was referred to this salon by a friend, and I absolutely love this place! One of the best salons in the northern suburbs of Chicago. I enjoy how easy it is to book an appointment online. However, if you want a particular stylist be sure you book in advance, because slots fill up fast. You can't go wrong with any of the stylists. My favorite stylist is Marisa. I came in and she was calm, patient, and positive. I appreciated how she was able to take time with me before she started cutting my hair to discuss with me what I would like done. I've gotten my hair cut here about 4 or 5 times and while I think the cuts are good, they are pretty pricey. I usually just get a trim... maybe 1 or 2 inches and nothing special in terms style. But everybody that works here is helpful and nice and it is always very clean. read more

I had a wonderful experience today when I went to get my hair done. First of all the Salon is huge and offers everything you can imagine and they carry every product from skin care to an immense array of hair care items. My colorist was Athina, a very sweet and talented young, woman who did a great job on my hair. And I have been EVERYWHERE,from the near north side of Chicago to plenty of places up here,and I can honestly say I think she did the best job of all. I know she can cut hair too because she did my daughter's hair and it turned out really cute. She's very fussy and quite happy with her hair these days and that's how I ended up there, myself. Because, it was my first time, I got a deep Moroccan Oil treatment from a very nice lady named Yaffa(sorry-spelling!) All in all, a very friendly place, and my hair looks great! read more

I moved up North so I'm trying to find the best places around here since it'll be hard for me to head into the city now that I've got 2 LOs. I've driven past this place a million times so I figured I'd give it a shot plus they offered a coupon for first timers @ 20%. I ended up paying $40 vs. $50. I should have not been suckered in and kept driving past this salon. The salon wasn't anything fancy and somewhat cheesy - reminded me of a cross b/t the Mario Tricoci school and the Teddie Kossof salon. There's lots of seats but not all the seats were filled. I wonder if this place used to be a bustling one or if it was b/c I went during the weekday. It was clean but lifeless. Much of the clientele were older women getting their tight perms that day. I was on time for my appointment and got in right away so that was a plus. I hate arriving at my appointments right on time or 15 minutes early (as requested) and having to wait to get in - then what's the point of arriving early just to sit there and twiddle your thumbs? I was directed to get my hair shampoo'd and conditioned by the shampoo women. The woman who shampoo'd my hair was friendly until I got that question some post pregnancy women hate - so when are you due? I was kind b/c I know sometimes people don't know the etiquette and just told her that I already had my kid. She must have been embarassed b/c I didn't hear much from her after that. Here's why I'm passing on this place: The girl who cut my hair seemed very nice but her cutting skills weren't anything to rave about. I don't really get much done w/ my hair cuz I'm all about low-maintenance care but asked to get layers in my hair since I wanted a change from getting the usual trim. The way she started my layers was interesting but I would not get that type of layering performed on me again. She brought some of my hair to the front and (she did warn me that it looked like a lot was going to be cut off but it wasn't) cut it as if I was going to get a ton of blunt bangs. It didn't turn out that way but now the back of my head didn't look so great (checked it out afterwards - not at the salon). The layers don't fall well so it looks like an inexperienced stylist did my hair. She continued to cut my hair in silence ... which is fine by me b/c I'm not that much of a talker and thought she was really focusing on my hair, but that's because she must have had something to do after me. Possibly a lunch date w/ a friend - A girl came into the salon and they talked briefly. She told me earlier that after she blow dried my hair that she would make adjustments if necessary. Well, when she was done, she didn't even ask me anything. She's like, ok - thanks for coming in and started taking off the drape but I stopped her cuz my bangs were too long. She cut them as I requested but I could tell she wanted to be done cuz she didn't even have me check the back of my hair (that was my fault!). What stylist forgets to do that? I should have reminded her but it completely slipped my mind. After she brought me up to the cashier, she met up with that friend and that was the end of the transaction. That was the end of doing business with this salon. I paid way too much for a Bo-Rics/Great Clips haircut. read more

On Stage has been my salon of choice for the past 2 years, and I HIGHLY recommend and love Eunice! She can do it all so well... color, haircut, and style! The first and only time I've ever been to this place (probably about 2 yrs ago), the girl who cut my hair did do a decent job, BUT when her next customer (a much older and rather regular) arrived and she was running a bit behind, SHE MADE ME BLOW DRY MY OWN HAIR. Since I moved up here I've been looking for new places to get myself prettied up, and, on the suggestion of other people on this site, I decided to book myself an appointment at the On Stage Salon and Spa this morning to get a partial highlight and a trim. So now, for a list of plusses and minuses... + The stylist was very friendly with me and tried to make me feel comfortable in the salon. + She brought out the color book and matched my higlights to the ones I already have perfectly. + She took my screwed up hair and made it look good. She also made it so that it can grow out and look good while doing so. Two pluses for that. - The stylist was late to work. Not very late, but late enough to leave me sitting in the front lobby waiting for her to come in a hair coloring smock. - After being late, she, and the other women who were working there, spent 10+ minutes trying to fix the TV so that I could watch a show that I didn't even ask to watch. - There was a strange old man walking around the salon, drinking a cup of coffee, mid-afternoon on a monday. I didn't know what he was doing there or if he really belonged there, but I smiled at him as he spoke to me.... ...and then there is the big negative...the bill. I'm surprised, especially with how easy my haircut/color was, that it cost so much. But my hair looks hot and it looks like it'll be easy to maintain...so i like On Stage, but I really prefer Robert Jeffrey on Halsted. Request "Angie"....she is detailed and makes sure your eyebrows are even and fit your face structure! Well worth the $15. Those $5 shops are a give and take kinda deal but with Angie - guaranteed perfect everytime! Need your hair done? Try "Effie". She's young but has been doing hair for 4 years and knows what she's doing - my hair came out exactly how I wanted. She was able to control my crazy curls. It cost me only $35. Well I am VERY VERY picky about my hair. I moved here from new York last year and have been so disappointed with every salon I have been to. That is until I met Effie. She is the most amazing stylist I have ever met. I just sat down and she did the rest !! She new exactly what color would match my complextion and the cut was better than any $200 cut In new York for only $50. It just shows that it doesn't matter what place you go to you just have to meet the right stylist. And believe me Effie is the right person ! read more

This place was just ok. The staff was polite but the woman who cut my hair was unfriendly (it was later in the evening so she may just have been worn out). It was also fairly expensive and I don't really see why. They didn't even have a coat closet and for an expensive place I expect to at least have someone offer to hang up my coat. I have very curly hair and I have been searching for a place in the area that can cut it properly. This is not the place. As with all of the other "upscale" salons I've tried, I ended up spending a lot of money for the same quality I could expect from one of those cheap chain places. read more

I wanted to change up my look and go from black to platinum blonde w/ highlights. I'd never colored my hair before and was apprehensive as to how it would turn out. I started at Mario Tricoccci and didn't really get the results I was looking for. Long story short after 4 different hair appointments at 2 different salons I FINALLY called On Stage and decided to try one last time to fix my hair the color I wanted. Toni did my color and she did a phenominal job! I can't stop looking at my hair and it looks exactly as I 'd envisioned. Toni is amazing!! She's super friendly, took time to bring me water and magazines and just went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. She also did a fabulous job on my hair color and I couldn't be happier. They have ladies there whose only job is to wash hair and it makes it so much nicer to sit there an relax and then go into the stylists chairs.
